Well this is absolutely ridiculous then. How could any reasonable person look at this and , even for a moment, conclude that they were just fan autographs?

Absolutely preposterous.

That being said, the last thing I want is for ND to beat FSU with some no-name QB at the helm. (Or even worse, get beat by a no-name QB.) I would much rather play JW win or lose, then let the suspensions come.

Let's see we'll be playing them without 3 starters from last year because ND did enforce eligibility requirements. Shouldn't both schools show the same integrity?

We can play them with tjat handicap while they cheat on eligibility and they win. Then they can get hit by the NCAA and forced to vacate. They're win would be denied. But our loss would stay on the books. ND would not retroactivley be made whole and rise in the rankings or get a slot in the playoffs.

I'd rather play them straight up by the same set of rules and interpretations. I'm not worried about my testosterone level at the office coffee pot.

Georgia did the right thing. UF did the right thing. When has FSU ever shown integrity?

Looking at Jimbo's bonuses built into his contract, it's obvious Jimbo has a financial incentive to keep Winston playing.

He's got half a million reasons and the University wrote the contract. He's their employee. It's a culture honed during 3 decades of Bobby Bowden.

If he goes undefeated and wins the national championship, he would get at least one million dollars in bonuses.

I don't blame Jameis for getting paid for his autographs. The poor guy can't steal anymore crab legs with Publix on high alert. The guy has to find some way to put crabs on the table.

I'm shocked that Fisher is so intent on defending Winston to the death. It's one thing to say "no comment," but it's another to come out and blast the media. I hope he realizes that whenever Winston inevitably goes down, he's going with him.

That's because the NCAA has no subpoena powers (which their membership purposely prevented) they have to get information through other sources, like court lawsuits, or investigative articles. Albert Means, Bush, become known that way.

When the info does become public the schools scramble to do damage control by investigation and self reporting. Most learned from Alabama's Langham "investigation" to at least make it look like you did an investigation.

When the textbook scandal became know Alabama jumped on it and self reported and self imposed. I think Alabama is the most NCAA procedural savy program in the country.

Mike Garrett and Pete Carroll didn't offer anything on Bush and got stiffer penalties.

OSU's Gee joked about the football coach firing him.

Pat Dye stonewalled at Auburn and the NCAA was going to force Auburn to separate him from the school. Before the NCAA report was released Dye was allowed to resign as HC and AD but he was then appointed Special Advisor to the University President for life. Seems the head of the BOT was also the Chairman of the Bank where the money was coming from.

I'm not defending the NCAA (which does what its members wants). Just pointing out that some schools have learned the NCAA Two Step.

Others pay the price for not dancing such as ND in Dunbar where Malloy refused to appeal on principal.

I absolutely understand and agree with you in principal. However, I think we can beat these guys WITH Winston, and I think we could lose to them without him too. I'd rather have him there so there's no 'asterix' hanging over the game if when we win.

$25,000 for having a graduation rate between 65 and 84 percent; $50,000 for having a graduation rate higher than 84 percent
$25,000 for having a .930 academic performance rating or higher for the school year

Terribly sad that these items which effect the students lives the most are the least likely ones to achieve they way they handle their program and are the most meaningless and lowest incentive to be fulfilled

Golson....One full season...academic dishonesty.

Winston....one game...singing atop a table degrading women with vulgar language, stealing crab legs, on-going rape invesitgation, 900 autographs, etc.

I know that FSU is doubling down and circling the wagons but they should be ashamed. I want JW to play and get beat! He, the coach, and the University are all going to go down.

Suspending JW is probably the right thing to do. But, from a purely selfish ND perspective, suspending JW is a lose-lose proposition. If we win, haters will say the win didn't mean anything. And if we lose, then the loss looks that much worse.

I want him to play for this reason. Suspend him after ND game.

I think we are being a little harsh. JW was suspended from the baseball team for the crab leg incident. What more do you want?

Would love to see Trumbetti come of the edge untouched and lay JW out. I could only imagine the loud shrieks and war cry's coming from my house if that happened.

And what do we care? WE didn't commit the crime. WE didn't suspend him.

History won't put any asterisks next to the win either. Is anybody outside of the ND community still complaining about the Bush Push, or the absolutely horrendous spot they gave ND that led to the push? Nope. Nobody even remembers it, unless we remind them.

I could care less whether Winston plays on Saturday. If he plays and they win, so be it. But with or without Winston, if we win the game, I'm not going to let a bunch of jean short wearing rednecks who can't even spell NCAA Investigation, let alone comprehend the meaning of it, make me feel bad about a win. Winston could roll an ankle on the first play of the game and the net effect would be the same.

I made my peace with the fact that ND does things differently a long time ago, and chose to be a fan because of it. I cannot be bothered by the extent to which other institutions turn a blind eye to accountability and propriety. I don my Irish jersey on Saturdays knowing full well that we're likely playing against a team who cares far less about honor and educating men and women than Notre Dame does. Notre Dame is more than just one football game - its a way of life. And when it comes to winning the game of life, FSU and the J. Winstons of the world are the underdogs, not the men and women of Notre Dame.

I have a young friend who just enrolled at ND as a ph.d student and is thrilled about attending football games. She asked me last week whether we would win. I told her it was impossible for us to lose, because at the end of the day, regardless of the score, we're still Notre Dame and they're not. Perspective, folks.

And in case I wasn't clear, f$ck Florida State.

Last night I was kinda thinking that I would prefer Jameis to play so that, if we win, our win looks more impressive.

Today I'm less concerned with that and I'm more concerned with FSU making a travesty of college football by letting Jameis play. We have three of our best guys suspended due to their own wrongdoing (as well as a fourth, Hardy, who would probably be contributing in a reserve role). If we have to play by the rules, so should FSU.

If you believe in Karma, Notre Dame will win this game and Winston will play poorly!

Right?

Agreed. We suffered a mediocre season last year with our QB out and nobody gave a shit, let those scumbags in Tallahassee suffer the same. Our kid was out for way less of an erroneous act versus what this kid and his entire school have let get by with. You said it best, travesty is exactly what is happening and Jimbo is leading the charge.

Breaking down the NCAA bylaw Johnny Manziel is accused of violating

This touches on the bylaws pretty well. There's a huge difference between taking money yourself for autographs and signing while knowing someone else will make money off of it. The latter is a much softer penalty.

With all the signatures on the same spot and listed numerically together it's natural to think he sat down and signed for the company. It's tough to prove cash in hand but there is no way he can sell the idea that he thought this guy was gonna hang hundreds of pieces of similar memorabilia on his wall and not sell them.

Nothing will happen.. At least for this weekend.

All the hot lights are on FSU while our boys quietly prepare. Van Gorder is going to blitz the absolute shit out of this kid.

The Gurley story broke on a Thursday and he was suspended for that weekend's game. Timing shouldn't be an issue here.

I agree. But when the head coach comes out and aggressively defends the kid I assume he's going to play. We'll see if the higher ups make a move.

Do we actually know what evidence was in hand for the Gurley case? I had heard there were photos of him signing, but not of cash changing hands. While the sequencing and number of sigs point to the same thing occurring with JW, is there any evidence outside of the website?
