Hey! There was a disclaimer!

Also, I moved Tillery in over Day and Smith in over Hamilton at safety.

haha you know we have to get on you for that one :laugh:

The most interesting part about this is whether or not people will use two TEs or implement a slot, plus 4-3 vs 3-4. Could make a lot of arguments around those

I can't imagine what playing D-Line was like against Chatard in HS when they had those brothers anchoring down the O-Line. Couldn't have been fun...

I share this story a lot: a college friend of mine played DE against Z Mart in high school. He knew that it was gonna be a bad night, but still went and played his heart out, with Zack winning every snap. Well my buddy noticed something weird before one snap, and on instincts didn't attack the QB, but shot out and nearly picked off a swing pass to the RB. I think Zack was supposed to cut him so he couldn't make that play, but didn't get it in time.

Wrong move. My buddy said the rest of the game was even worse, because Zack was now livid that he lost a single snap.

LOL, that is great...thank you for sharing.

I only post because I've played against Chatard many times on the D-Line but not against those tanks, thankfully.

The defensive alignment changes things a bit here. If you're in a 4-2-5 or a 3-4 or a 4-3....Crazy how much our defensive system has changed over the years and yet our offense which has always been pretty multiple has always largely been a one back, one tight end base (11 personnel).

Who is the next player that will have a shot of making it to the All-BK team? To make this a bit harder, don't include Kyle Hamilton.

The weakest position on these All-BK teams has been CB2. So I think I might have to throw out Bracy. I could easily see him be good enough his last 2 years on campus to steal the #2 spot.

If Jordan Johnson and Buchner really hit it off, I could see them becoming a force together. A junior JJ and sophomore TB could be potentially lethal.

A name I thought I might see was Jamoris Slaughter - Would be a nice nickle or at the very lease on the roster for play vs Navy

Buchner really does have the potential and star prowess coming in that I could see him overtaking the Book/Kizer argument. Jordan Johnson would have to outshine both Michael Floyd and Will Fuller (at least per my list/opinion) and that is no small task. Those are mighty big shoes to fill.

To answer the question, I will say Chris Tyree. I think he is the elite RB BK has been missing for a while, at least since Greg Bryant and Dex, and I could see him being the best in the BK era.

You're totally right, I forgot that Floyd was with Kelly for two years. If we expand it to three WR's then I think Johnson's and if we only use Kelly recruits then that makes it easier, but that's a lot of stretching to make it work.

I could see Hayes winning the weakside DE spot with a great season and, if you're running a 4 man front, I could see Hinish or Lacey displacing Nix as the 1 tech.

I still have Kizer over Book but Ian could win me over if he does more with the vertical passing game.

I just don't think that Hayes will overtake Okwara for me. Hayes would need to really explode and be better than 2018 Okwara, which I just don't see happening. And for the 1-tech, I think Tillery is the guy to beat. Plus it gives you some flexibility as he could play 3-technique as well.

What did Davonte do?

Kidding. Jack Swarbrick calls you up and says that ND needs a new rivalry game because Stanford is being removed. He asks you to name a team and he'll get the annual series started in 2024. Note: no existing rivalries, it must be a team that ND doesn't semi-regularly play (Michigan, Michigan State etc).

Who do you name?

Well Purdue is already coming back on the schedule in 21, albeit not permanently. Also they've played 86 times, so it's kinda already a rivalry game, albeit a dormant one.

As for Indiana, the two have only played 29 times, with the last game being in 1991. I'm down for adding them, but it's certainly not gonna move the needle for a lot of the fanbase lol.

Texas.

Historic programs with good fanbases. It would be good win any year and I think the other SEC teams have dipped into the talent base that Texas had during Mack Brown, so we may not ever see another top 5 Texas team. And this game would be on primetime every year.

UT is the correct answer here. It's also a reputable academic school. So let's just put this question to rest and ask a new one....

However we can debate adding Texas A&M. It's the wrong answer, but there is an argument to be made around serving Jimbo Fisher a big slice of his "humble pie".

Texas is a pretty good answer and hard to top.

Others that I might consider: LSU, Alabama, FSU, Miami, Penn State, Colorado, ...

Some of these you might already consider rivals though, despite not being official rivalries.

North Dakota State

I was thinking Penn State myself, or Wisconsin.

If we want to stay out west, I'd go Washington. For some reason I think the two schools would make a feisty rivalry. Big 12 would be Texas. SEC would be Tennessee. They are one of the few without a good out of conference rival. Plus, I'm an hour from Knoxville. Big 10 would be Penn State. Great uniform match up.

Tennessee is a good answer. Has to be a team that wouldn't pose a big threat but would help us slightly from a perception perspective. I would throw in UCLA and Illinois.

Hard pass on Northwestern or any other inferior program that could actually beat us once every few years.

I'd be cool with Tennessee just from the real possibility that I eventually move down to the Knoxville area (specifically around Lake Norris).

My wife would love to retire to that area. I went to the ND game at Knoxville back in 2001 and when they came up here. Both schools with great fan bases that mix well, support their teams and aren't jerks.

If not Texas, Florida. (Georgia's gotten too dangerous.)

They always seem to be rated high, underachieve, and don't score enough. We're playing FSU and Miami anyway. Beating the State of Florida is good recruiting material. (Better than beating the State of Michigan.) Why anyone would want to regularly schedule Alabama makes my head ache. (Unless the idea was that the rare win there would get one into the playoffs --- but I'd rather ditch that idea for an 8-team play-off and sail in THERE regularly without having to schedule anything-to-win factories.)

If there was an 8-team playoff my view shifts radically to self-preservation rather than flashy competition, so it's Purdue for me (especially for the travel break.) Ohio State makes it to the playoffs regularly even though essentially staying at home and kicking butt. We could be the other Northern Power doing that.

Would be fun but Florida would never go for it. Playing ND and FSU, along with their SEC schedule, would be brutal. That’s why Tennessee would work. They don’t have anyone outside of the SEC they play every year. They usually play a home and home with one good team and schedule 3 cakewalks. Pretty standard for the conference.
