Anyone have info on installing solar panels (for beginners)? Some of the stuff I'm gathering is way over my head and involves calculations that I don't know the info for each variable input.

In a nutshell, I want a Tesla. I want said Tesla to be charged by the sun and not Duke Energy. I'm not too concerned with it powering my whole house. I don't want some massive system that will costs tens of thousands of dollars. Just something big enough to charge my car.

Yeah, thanks for checking with me before ya hacked me up. Jeezlouise.

I liked the old title better...

Sorry guys, I changed it because I figured people would know what a Tesla Model 3 was and they would more likely click the link, while they may not know who Elon Musk or care how he changed our world.

I will give Crusader the choice to have me change it back, but I'll tell you that I had no idea who Elon Musk was, but I do know about Tesla and their work.

You didn't know who Elon Musk was? Pick up a paper now and then, Beau...

The proper name of the thread would have been...

The Model 3
...how a rock star rocket scientist changed the world while we argued about Climate Change, Fracking and Islamic Fundamentalism.

I'm 22, in college, and broke. I don't even buy paper as a school supply, let alone the newspaper.

That's no excuse. wizards prepaid his entire 4 years in his first year, AND printed a newspaper of his own.

Step up your game, pal

May I assume that it's packaged with a pump spray delivery system rather than one driven with CFC's?

Recycled Genuine Trump Hot Air.............. so it's eco-friendly, as well.

My brother bought the model S a couple of years ago. His wife is contemplating ordering the X. It is really an impressive car visually. The interior is very nice but more simple than I expected, but the true joy is driving these cars. Unbelievable performance. Getting down to the 35k range will be a game changer. These cars and this company are just that good. The internal combustion engine has been put on notice IMO.

He lives down here in Louisiana, I believe at the time the nearest showroom was in Houston. Needless to say we do not have a lot of supercharger stations, but I believe he can go coast to coast on I-10 with his vehicle which gets roughly 300 miles to a charge. Highway driving is the worst efficiency-wise, but once the infrastructure is put in place these cars and this company model are going to really make it hard on everyone else.

I would like to see the financials from Tesla for the Model 3. If they can truly sustain production costs for a base model in the neighborhood of $35K then they may very well be a game changer in the automotive industry. Furthermore, I want to see the reliability and durability of the Model 3 before I lay down the cash. Tesla has proved the majority of doubters in the auto industry wrong up to this point, but they are now getting down to a price point that makes me think proceeding with some cautious optimism may be the wiser decision. At least for me for the next couple of years anyway.

By the time YOU could get a Model 3 from the factory, there will be 200,000+ guinea pigs putting miles on it for a couple of years. They won't be up to full production until Q3 2019. If they start delivery in Q4 2017, I'll be lucky to get my car in 2018 and if all goes well between now and then, I'll have a new Model S P100D with Ridonkulous Mode instead.

Not so sure about the eco-friendly part.

There are a growing number of toxic chemicals coming to the fore in that Drumpf Hot Air Balloon.

I stand corrected. Recycled is not always synonymous with eco-friendly.

Tesla seriously underestimated Model 3 demand

So apparently Musk and Tesla did not think they would get even half of the reservations they have now prior to the 2nd unveiling they will have, and to the people who waited in lines at stores are being mailed a gift of sorts. Holy crap. Add on that I didn't know you could get a $7500 federal tax credit for purchasing a plug in.

The tax credit won't be given to everyone, the tax credit only works for the first 200,000 cars sold by tesla. Tesla has already sold about 65000-70000 cars. So only the first 130k pre order will get the tax credit.

Unless they've changed it, that's not how the phase out works. The tax credit will be reduced the quarter after the first calendar quarter in which the manufacturer sells at least 200000 plug in cars.

Up to 276,000 deposits.

About triple what they were expecting. It'll be interesting to see how they respond to this level of demand. I would love to see enough cars sold to really make Detroit rethink their strategy.

Just had lunch with a buddy of mine and he just purchased a Chevy Spark electric car. Tiny little car, looks like an economy vehicle. Nothing flashy. And only gets about 100 miles to a charge. He said you really have to have a different mindset to drive an electric because the charging stations are not terribly convenient, and even the fast charge stations require you to spend 20 minutes to an hour doing something else while your car charges. Obviously the Tesla 3 goes a lot further on a charge and is a nicer looking vehicle, but until charging stations are as available as gas stations, or at least approaching that, I believe the transition to an electric vehicle would be a hassle.

I think this depends. If it's going to be your only mode of transportation, or you drive more than 250 miles per day for work without a charger on your route, then it is most definitely a hassle. But if you are able to keep what was previously your primary vehicle as a backup for trips where charging would be an issue, then I think it's a great idea.
