Can we stop talking about the ND/LSU tug-of-war for Tillery for awhile? It's all noise. Half of us won't be convinced until he's enrolled. And we're getting dangerously close to the dreaded 1,000 post curse here.

No, stupidity is looked down on. Optimism is fine...people will debate to topics from all ends of the spectrum, which is great. But when someone puts blinders on, ignores all facts or just straight out says the facts are lies lol and he isn't buying it, well, that's when people get on a poster.

Did you just insult me after we had a civilized conversation? Which of those have I done exactly?

All I am saying is I am tired of the weekly poster coming in and asking about this kid's status when literally nothing new has happened...

And IN MY OPINION, he does not seem shaky, so I fail to see why you need to insult me in the process. No one was "getting on me." It was the same people throughout this entire thread that thinks he is shaky basically restating their opinion...

???? That came out of left field. Did I even mention you?

I literally have no idea what you are talking about or why you think I am insulting you. I didn't even quote you or anything. My post had nothing to do with you.

So, no, I didn't insult you, because I wasn't even talking to you or about you.

(And by the way, you keep saying nothing new has happened since February, which is completely false. That is not an opinion. Just last month he took a trip to LSU. If you want to think he isn't shaky, that's fine, but I don't see why you need to get mad at a poster who wonders about a kid's commitment when the commit is obviously still looking at another school. It's human nature to worry about that. And this is coming from a guy who long ago stopped worrying about decommitments and commitments. I think he'll stick btw, but the last thing I'd call him is a solid commit.)

I was debating with myself whether to take the time and effort to post this. But, I lost so here goes.

Tristen Hoge's uncle is Merril Hoge - played in NFL 8 seasons. Well respected NFL analyst. I think Tristen would not have committed to Notre Dame unless Merril very clearly told him his NFL prospects after playing at Notre Dame will be enhanced and will not not be hurt. Harry Hiestand is extremely well respected in the NFL for teaching his players excellent technique, getting the maximum out of of their ability, without taking the ultimately self-defeating shortcut of abusing steroids and patiently buliding them through hard work into the best offensive linemen they can possibly be and of course making a lot more money, not be worried about and not having the NFL team that drafts them worried about failing NFL drug tests, not screwing up and damaging their bodies with huge steroid use and what the hell - a degree from a University that is known and respected around the world.

Jerry Tillery will have to work for it at Notre Dame. Jerry Tillery will not be given a joke degree. Jerry Tillery will earn a meaningful degree. But, when does anyone ever get anything at all worthwhile unless they had to work for it?

IF IF IF Jerry Tillery's parents spend a lot of time with Hoge's parents and they REALLY listen and do their own research and find out all the facts - and IF Jerry Tillery is willing to do the work - Jerry Tillery will be Irish.

All hail, Harry Hiestand!

I will take it one step further.

With offensive lineman, we can have a little different conversation than with other position groups. At one point, both ND offensive line recruits were among the top handful of linemen at The Opening. Isn't that correct?

Think of that : ND takes three linemen, two are at The Opening, and those two are among the best. That speaks directly to HH's eye for talent, and his ability to recruit, let alone his ability to motivate and coach, which are creating quite a bit of buzz in many CFB circles. Linemen are as a rule a bit more intelligent, I believe, but they also gravitate quickly to schools that can develop them. It is clear that with young men coming out of high school, the incubation period of a top offensive lineman is a little longer than with most other positions. Don't look now, but ND is becoming a strongly preferred landing spot for top offensive talent.

His recruitment has been different to me than kids we have lost in the past. No doubt you have to watch what they are doing and taking visits is always unsettling to fans when the kid is committed, but Jerry is different from the kids that flip and have transferred out in that he is a perfect fit academically and spiritually to ND as ND is to him. Jerry is a special person, not just a football player, that would be able to give as much as he gets at ND. For some reason, and I could be way off, but I think he sticks and will be a fan favorite over the course of his time here. He just exudes all the qualities that ND embodies. Again who really knows what a kid is going to do, but he keeps standing firm in his decision. Also, with him being an EE, I would suspect Dec. and Jan. to be the months to really watch for anything that we need to worry about.

OK, if you want to be that nitpicky, it's not true that a poster asks weekly, as in every week. There are questions, usually when a pro-LSU article comes out or when Tillery himself does or says something to cause questions, but it hasn't happened weekly. Shoot, we went almost a whole month without talking about him until yet another troubling article came out, in late May.

Let me ask you this: Were people wrong to question Blake Barnett's commitment when he tweeted that Alabama and Oregon offered? I know I questioned it but I was told he was solid and not to worry. We're people wrong to question Deontay Greenberry's commitment when he visited Houston? I thought he was solid and that there was no way he was going to Houston. I was way off, obviously.

My point is, this is a message board. When news happens, even if you think it is bogus, people are going to comment, and with all the decommittments we've seen over the years, of course people are going to worry. And of course people are going to talk about it, bc again, this is a message board.

Im not going to lie...the frequent four hour road trips from Shreveport to Baton Rouge bothers me. That isnt just a friday night party run. Im not saying that he is flipping but that is a long way to go for a school you have made your decision against. My guess is that Lesticles will have him for a LSU home game against a decent SEC team when tiger stadium is rocking and the babes are out. If he can survive that, he is NDs. That is a very big IF. It is my opinion that honestly, no college game day experience compares to LSUs. Please note I said game day only. If he can keep his eye on the prize and look past it, he's ours. If not, he will be theirs.

Barnett is probably the best example of this, so great reference. I didn't want to believe he would flip just on the nature of his position and all the pro ND stuff he was throwing at us. He was probably my favorite of all the commits we had and then lost over the last several years. He just proved why at the elite 11 camp too. Unfortunately at this point, when a kid gets the late offers or starts visiting you have to be leery anymore. It's just the nature of the game. Still, maybe I am a fool, but Tillery, again just strikes me as different.

Can we just stop with this continuous, he's de-committing crap. It's been 3 months of it already. People are acting like the geek who can't believe that the girl actually said yes to a date and are just waiting for the "I have to wash my hair" phone call.

Would be great if recruits started thinking of ND as OL U similar to TE U. May be awhile before that catches on because ND has had success with sending TE's to the NFL in the 1st 3 rounds for many years. We just had our 1st OL to get drafted in the 1st round (or was it 2nd, can't seem to remember) in quite awhile. But with the way Harry is recruiting I think that number will be going up.

I think most people (not all) are actually saying they think he'll stay, but that he's far from a 'solid' commit, and that they wouldn't be surprised if he did decommit.

That's where I'm at anyway. I don't care either way...we have an excellent coach/recruiter at O-line and we're loaded at that spot. But I've said for several months now that I'd still be recruiting another elite player as if Tillery wasn't committed, bc we shouldn't be left holding the bag like we have been so many other times.

Why? There's been a shit ton of reasons why it's a legit concern. And what is your reason for stopping?

Jerry seems to be a very good young man. Time will tell if loyalty is one of his attributes, but for now he is Irish.

Seems like I am not the only one irritated by all this.

@ The Poimbino, My head is not in the sand, if anything, it is the people who are too scared to look up that have their heads in the sand.

It was completely fair for members to question Blake's commitment when things starting popping up but that is also a little different. Blake was quiet for months after he committed, then all of a sudden started talking to other schools. We ALL knew Tillery's situation before he even committed to ND:

- LSU was recruiting him hard and being the home school, that is formidable
- He goes to LSU regularly with friends or for other reasons, thought I heard he took some type of test in the area of LSU campus, when reporters asked about the unofficial visit, he said we was not even there for football reasons.
- His parents "allegedly" favor LSU over ND (Though it has been reported that his mom still likes ND)

We knew all this before he committed, nothing has really changed, he committed in spite of all these factors already in place.

Am I guaranteeing Tillery signs with ND? Hell no, but as of right now, nothing indicates he is wavering, yet this thread gets comments every week about it. That is all I am saying, I dont believe this is homerism at all, I simply do not see anything that resembles past decommits.

So we should not be worried about Tillery because he's always talked to other schools? Forgive me if I don't see that logic.
