The Giants have brought back Steve Spagnuolo as DC

Thank God!

It's a good hire because he is essentially a one year rental with a high floor. I'm guessing he got no more than a 2 year contract but maybe I'm wrong. I think next year is Tom's last regardless. If he does great, he will retire on a high note. If he does poorly, he will be fired. So they didn't want to bring in a fresh DC that may not work well with the new HC.

Makes sense. I'm with you that this is his last ride. Maybe we'll have one of those magic runs again and send him off into the sunset!

Easy Huntr. It's more about media always trying to tie in ND at every turn. For example, "Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish Defensive Coordinator Corwin Brown taken to hospital after self-inflicted gunshot wound." What about former Michigan defensive back and captain, Corwin Brown? I get the perspective, but I'm also sick of the drag-ND-through-mud approach.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean that to come off all shitty.

But, I do know what you're saying about the media. I personally think Matt Fortuna of espn and the SB Tribne's Tyler James get a chub when they can do what you're describing, so I stopped reading them entirely.

whatevs.

Saban pushes out OCs too? Not just recruits?

Excellent timing for Tricky Nicky. Kiffin is a large reason Barnett flipped to bama. Barnett EE'd, so now Kiffykins can hit the bricks.

If he leaves, would be really interesting to see who calls the plays in Tuscaloosa next season.

Kiffen must have phenomenal interviewing skills. No itslics. Dude just keeps going up. I tip my hat to that.

Just about every opening filled now... Quinn to Atlanta seems like a formality post-Super bowl.

lol broncos. Why not just hire actual warmed over mashed potatoes to coach the team? Probably would cost less.

Not sure where to post this but this is a popular thread and I know we have members who this might apply to:

The guy's a good OC. His issues have mostly been when he was the HC. Needed to develop some people skills, some maturity, and learn to not be a bigmouth brat. Has he done enough of that this past year under Saban? Seems to have, but he's been in a situation there where he wasn't given many opportunities to do otherwise. I think he'd do better to stay with us for one more year, show he's truly matured, and repay Saban for taking a chance on him, but who knows. I think it's about 50/50 as to whether he stays or goes.

appreciation, loyalty and acknowledgement of others helping him along the way are not in this guys vocabulary

his whole life kiffy born on 3rd base (due to Monty) yet he still thinks he hit a triple.

Central Michigan Head Coach Dan Enos took a job as the OC at Arkansas last Tuesday. A couple ND assistants have been brought up by the media as possible replacements, specifically Elston and LaFleur.

Coaching Search Ticker | CoachingSearch.com

Central Michigan: Hondo Carpenter of SpartanNation.com reports Notre Dame defensive line coach Mike Elston is in the mix for the CMU head coaching job. Elston previously coached at CMU from 2004-06 under Brian Kelly.

Possible candidates to watch in Central Michigan football head coach search | MLive.com

The Mount Pleasant native was a star quarterback for Mount Pleasant High School before moving on to play for Western Michigan and Saginaw Valley State in college and embarking on a coaching career that included a stop at CMU as a graduate assistant under Brian Kelly.

LaFleur's dad, Denny, was a longtime assistant for the Chippewas, and he has shot up the coaching ranks spending two seasons as an offensive assistant with the Houston Texans before being named the quarterbacks coach for the Washington Redskins for four seasons under Mike Shanahan.

He was the quarterbacks coach for the Irish in 2014.

However, a LaFleur hire is unlikely. It's widely believed he prefers coaching in the NFL.

LaFleur seems like wild speculation, but I could see Elston getting some attention. Nor would I be opposed to it.

I would be happy for Elston. This would be a good career move for him.

We would need to jump all over Quinn immediately.

1. Build Kelly's coaching tree (Molnar lol, Chuch Martin, Bob Diaco, Elston?). That's pretty good in 5 years.

2. Get a fresh face on the staff who could be another hustle-recruiter. Somebody that could replace Alford when he gets a HC/OC job in the very near future.

If Kelly plays his cards right (and the administration opens the wallet a bit), this could be a win-win.

I'm kinda confused. Isn't Jeff Quinn an offensive guy? Why would the loss of Elston require Kelly to go after Quinn? But then I could be wrong and you might be talking about a different Quinn lol

Take Quinn to coach TEs and move Booker to DL (or something like that).

See RackEm's comment above. It's about getting Quinn, not replacing Elston.

Should Elston go, the question is whether the addition of Quinn with another O coach at DL > keeping an O coach where he is and adding a DL coach.
