I thought Whiteside was the most impressive receiving threat for Stanford. If it becomes a shoot out (which I don't think it will) I believe the Irish have more threats that are more dangerous than Whiteside.

I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm not concerned about Costello, and I think our defense can pressure him and contain Love. Whiteside and Parkinson have a knack for going up and winning those 50/50 balls almost all the time. Now, if ND will just jam them at the LOS like you should and play semi-decent coverage, they should be fine. They didn't do that last year. Elko, as good as he was last year, saved his golden turd for the game I attended, where he played soft coverage pretty much all game and their big receivers ate it up all day.

Lea better not pull that shit or I'm going to be very angry.

It certainly is a lot softer than it looked on paper to start the year because of USC and FSU regressing. I'm not willing to write it off as Charmin yet because of when we play some of the teams that have been struggling so far.

FSU might have it clicking by November (doubt it).
USC might have it clicking by the last game of the season (very possible, considering the youth).
VT game against ODU is likely a mirage like Oklahoma against Army, Georgia against Nichols State, Clemson against Troy, and many other aberration games we've seen over the years. That's probably going to be a VERY tough road game following a physical game against Stanford.

But yeah, Syracuse on paper has probably the best offense we will see all year. And we gave up a home game to go play them in Yankee Stadium in dumb jerseys!

The way I see it, ND *should* be a considerable favorite in every remaining game after Stanford. Doesn't mean ND will win them all, but this season basically comes down to getting the W this week and then "taking care of business."

Agree that FSU could put it together, but doubt it with that coach.

I think USC will put it together by thanksgiving and that game will be tough.

As for VaTech game it is less daunting to me now. ND plays Stanford the week before which will be very physical. But I believe VaTech plays at Duke. And Duke defense is no joke either....

If Notre Dame plays their A game verse Stanford and VaTech ND wins both. Period. End of story.

Agree on all this. And when I say soft, I guess I should have said the road ahead, because Michigan is looking like a top 10 team. Beating two top 10 teams in the season even if it means no one else finishes ranked (there will prob be a couple like Cuse and VT), it’s still one of the tougher schedules week in and week out.

Oregon’s QB was pretty legit last night. He could really throw the ball and even run well for being 6’6’’. Oregon lost the game on some boneheaded plays and horrible OT officiating, but when they did dominate they did so by playing aggressive and by using their speed. Stanford also gave their receivers a lot of cushion at times. Overall, Stanford looked inconsistent on D and O, but they kept their cool and got after every scrap they could. They are definitely a confident (cocky) bunch. Costello thinks he’s Elvis.

I know it’s completely unrealistic to expect Book to do what he did yesterday to Stanford. But one can hope so we can see that smug smile wiped off the face of Shaw. Not even Harbaugh upsets me like Shaw does.

I think Saturday comes down to our ability to defend their passing game.

Love will get his yards, but no one has consistently run on us and I don't expect Stanford to win the game on the ground. On defense, Stanford's front seven looks a bit less than it has been in some recent years, so, barring turnovers, we should be able to move the ball OK and score some points.

But Costello and their volleyball team of WRs and TEs are tough to defend. Fortunately we have our best defensive backfield in some time. The key will be pressuring Costello which, again, I think we're better equipped to do with a four-man rush than we have been most years lately.

Figure it'll be close, like 24-21 close. But at home, we pull it out.

For the first time in a while, the Stanford defense doesn't scare me. Odebo is a really good DB, but he can't cover both Boykin and Claypool.

Their O line hasn't done a whole lot thus far for Bryce Love, and Oregon's defense is no Georgia/ Bama.

For the first time in a while, their QB scares me. He is experienced, accurate, and has a bunch of big WR's and TE's who are hard to cover.

Agree. Their D is good, but not typical Stanford good. Our O will do enough IMO. It's up to our D. And I think our DBs are in a better space this year to deal with their WRs. Their running game is what scares me the most TBH.

I’d love to beat the piss out of these fucks. Having said that, it’ll probably be a 24-21 game either way.

Wishing for the same but I will be happy with 24-23 and 5-0 heading to Virginia.

Oregon won the trenches for the bulk of the game. That's what was so surprising. If there's one thing to worry about it's Stanford's TEs. They're beasts. Most will focus on their RB, but it's their TEs that are so impressive. Repeatedly, Costello simply threw jump balls to his TEs.

I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm not concerned about Costello, and I think our defense can pressure him and contain Love. Whiteside and Parkinson have a knack for going up and winning those 50/50 balls almost all the time. Lea better not pull that shit or I'm going to be very angry.

Just need to get pressure on Costello so he doesn't have time to set up his throws to the TE's.
