Anyone seen the Scooby Doo meme for UGA? Fred rips the mask off the bad guy whose head is replaced by Kirby Smart & it reveals Mark Richt. I can’t embed or I’d post it.

They might honestly not be that good. Their offense is quite self-destructive. I'm a little worried about ND having now watched Georgia play uneven at times since our game with them, and watching UVA's offense stink up the joint. I'm not sure our defense is as good as we think it is, and we all know the offense has flaws.

I don't want this team in the playoffs. If they got there again and played an offense like OU, OSU or Bama, ND would get obliterated.

ND needs to solve their passing game problems quickly. I just don't see a light at the end of the tunnel at the moment. The defense is coached well enough to hang around for awhile, but not strong enough to lock up those teams to 20pts or less (my estimate of what it would take for ND to win with the current offense).

Giving up points should not be the concern, scoring more than the opponent would be. Lea and his defense would not get destroyed by anyone you just named

They just gave up 27 to USC. I could see OSU or OU just killing us. We might score on OU but it would be rough against OSU

What makes you think that? ND hasn’t given up more than 30 points in 18 straight games, including Clemson last year, who had a better offense than these OU/OSU teams, down their best CB. I don’t see that trend getting bucked playing against those two quarterbacks who left because they didn’t win starting jobs at their previous stops. I think Lea has earned everyone’s trust that they will lock things down and give the team a chance

SEC Shorts are usually good and sometimes great. One of my favorite parts of football season.

We were basically playing a prevent defense allowing USC to run the ball. We also had a stop in the EZ when a mysterious whistle that no one heard allowed a "do over".

It wasn't a stop. It was second down. SC would have still had two more attempts and based on our tackling on the following play, I think it's pretty clear that they wouldn't have even needed both plays.

We knew going into this game that it may be uncomfortable to watch at times b/c the D was going to scheme against the Air Raid. Why? Because that’s how you beat the Air Raid. Just ask Chris Peterson whose UW D gave up over 200 yds in rushing vs SC but won by two TDs.

I agree Lea probably could’ve gone more plays w/ 4 down lineman in the 2nd half but his scheme worked. The other option was not going w/ two high safeties and letting SC torch ND for 40+ points.

Lea was also playing towards tendencies...much like last season’s game at SC. Going into the game, SC was one of the worst in turnover margin. That’s likely the reason UW beat them by 2 TDs. The goal is to keep everything in front of your defense and force them to put together long drives b/c they’ve shown the propensity to turn the ball over. It worked last year in the Coliseum and it worked for BYU & UW. My guess is that for ND, the Trojans had the benefit of coming off a bye week so they had more time to put towards protecting the ball.

I’ve said it before on another thread...but SC is a good team w/ a bad coach. They should be 5-1 w/ their one loss being to the Irish. It’s lack of details like missed tackles & turnovers that led them to be 3-3.

It was a stop on second down. I didn't mean they stopped the drive. I don't know if they would have needed both or not. You get a stop on that play and you get ramped up a little more. The ref says "just kidding", it takes a little air out of the balloon and effects the thinking of the players.

Because we couldn't tackle worth a damn. That was painful watching all of their backs just bulldoze our star players.

Someone made the excuse that a tropical storm cleared out half the stadium. Boo hoo. I've seen ND stadium cleared TWICE in 2011 for lightning and more people came back than that. Rain, snow, biting wind, that stadium remains at or near capacity.

Can confirm. I had an uncle and cousin who both were at the USF game when they evacuated and he said getting back to the seats after both occurrences felt just as long and crowded as before kickoff. Said the stadium still looked full at the dreadful conclusion of that one.

I was there in 2013 BYU, snowing and wind chill in the single digits. Place was packed.

Jake Fromm going Pro early

Jake Fromm is a carbon copy of Andy Dalton in terms of pro prospects, IMO.

He'll be a tremendous game manager with enough juice to have some random, extraordinary games... but he will ultimately be as good as his supporting cast, and that's about it.

He'll be great if he goes somewhere with great talent... he'll be bad if he doesn't have skill guys propping him up.

strikes me as a guy who will hang around the league like a Matt Barkley, Bryan Hoyer, etc. he has that face.

Finally the Phil news makes sense.

How? They have the #9 Pro Style guy from 2019, and the #8 coming in this class who EE'ed. On top of that, as it stands now Phil has to sit this year out so I think you're connecting dots that aren't there.

Though he was looking at Oregon?

And Washington too if I remember what I read. He is currently in Atlanta training I believe. As of now, I guess the next best QB currently in the portal is probably Costello. Kirby has to find a grad transfer QB so the market price had to rise with the Fromm announcement.
