There's always room for a guy that get you a first down on 3rd and long.

Maybe when he learns to sit in the zone at the sticks instead of drift across towards the middle into coverage, too soon?

Yes he did. But if you really want ND to win games consistently against top 15 level opponents, guys like Finke should never be seeing the field in prime time. Now if you disagree, all I can say is just look at ND's record over the past 20 years or so.

ND's record over the past 20 years has nothing to do with Finke.

Again, refer to Hunter Renfrow. In their 2 games against Alabama, he combined for 180 yards and 4 TD's (88 and 2 in '15 and 92 and 2 in '16). Again, this is a walk-on/former walk-on we're referring to.

Chris Finke possesses the athleticism, he runs crisp routes, gets open, catches the ball. Just because you're a former walk-on doesn't mean you're doomed to be nothing but practice fodder for your entire career.

Same with Schmidt. The issues with him didn't stem until he had to play hurt. Then his lack of athleticism and inability to go 100% to the point of attack held him back considerably.

Tickets still available to this game, per the ND ticket office, if anyone wants to avenge Saturday's Georgia-fest by filling Alumni Stadium with green.

Did I come to this thread and get time wasted with Finke doubters because of rankings?

This board is smart enough to know that when you get on the practice field, anything is possible. The best and most consistent will play.

Claypool - Most athletic and won't go hard in practice when he doesn't get the ball

Boykin - Won't run block, period

Finke - Day in and Day out does what is asked. Maybe not as well in some areas but they have identified that he just won't jump as high, run as fast or be as tall. He however goes 100% every practice every play, blocks anyone he find and he is always running a similar route which is his strong suit. His hands are also GREAT!!

None of what is above is fact but if it were you would be on board. Prove to me it isn't and then let't talk about Finke not being on the field.

Ha. Yes. I remember a push in, I think, the Willingham years to make green THE color. Not sure why it didn't bring stick (actually I'm pretty sure it was because they didn't want to dampen sales of "The Shirt," but still...)

I never understood the shirt deal.

Has ND ever tried printing on the tickets "wear green" or "wear blue"? That works like a charm at PSU for whiteouts.

I mentioned something similar in some other thread a while back (last season or the season before). All I heard from people on this board was that it wouldn't fly because people would have to buy a shirt or sweatshirt for three different colors. I feel confident that there are a lot of ND fans who own ND gear in various colors.

So the reason ND has not been successful over the last twenty years is because we play too many former walk-ons?

And all this time I assumed it was because our higher ranked players flamed out for various reasons.

I can see how that would be a problem previously. But now everyone has their profits from the Georgia ticket fire sale! Buy stock in the ND bookstore because sweatshirts are about to be flying off the shelves.

Seriously though it's not that big of a deal. Everyone has blue stuff. Buy one green shirt from Target and you're set.

Didn't he have a key third down late go off his hands last Saturday?

He didnt run that route correctly. Instead he drifted after his cut deeper downfield allowing the safety to get to him when the ball did. Had he made the cut correctly (squarely), he is perfectly between LBs & secondary to be wide open and make the catch unimpeded.

To his credit, he came back and made that catch in the next series.

Well if you had read my other posts on this topic I sort of agree with you. In short, if the walk-on is better then the 4* players on the team then the 4* players are probably overrated, not because the walk-on is underrated. Now if the 4* players are just not giving there all in practice and the coaches have decided that they are going to reward the guys that they consider are giving their all in practice that's fine. But then be prepared to lose some games because of this; and NO, I am not saying we lost to GA simply because we played a former walk-on. But it certainly does not help if you are not putting your most talented players on the field either.

That's pretty much a standard among coaching. Those that go hard and perform well in practice play. Those that don't sit.

Far as I'm concerned,Finke is an old school player. Hard work, determination and the attitude of don't tell me I'm not good enough is winning him playing time. Better than some of the 4 star talent still going with the entitled you owe me crap. Finke is raising the bar with work ethic, the more talented receivers either need to step up or get passed up.
