We did. They, respectively, stole a pair of pants, got caught with a prostitute and (allegedly) smoked too much pot. We currently have one returning running back eligible to play, and he’s not exactly Barry Sanders. Thems the breaks.
.

Wait, what?! When the hell did that come out

I see 86% of this week's rating is based on pre-season. That explains FSU @ 16 - might be worthwhile to show opening rating to see the trend of each.

FEI puts us at 6th nationally this week, but with only a 17% chance of winning out. Our opponents:

This makes sense, considering the current offensive efficiency numbers.

It doesn't matter how good or disruptive your defense is if you can't sustain offensive success to relieve the pressure on the other side of the ball. You're going to get beat eventually.

Right now, ND is basically LSU. Great defense, some freakish offensive skill talent, but a lack of offensive efficiency is going to spell doom in a big game at some point.

Of course, that's not locked in. If the staff figures out how to call to Wimbush's strengths, he's a big leg up on the LSU QB's that resulted in their offensive issues, and ND can win out riding a defense and a QB that is hard to stop on 3rd down because of his legs.

But we need to see some consistency from Chip Long as a playcaller before we can bank on that.

Question is, is it Long or Kelly?

Who decides BW doesn't run
Who decides Book doesn't play?
Who makes those RUN calls against Ball ST.

I don't know the answer....but am somewhat curious.

If you look at their recruiting class from 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018, Vanderbilt has exactly SIX 4-star players signed during that time.

We probably have 40? There's no reason we shouldn't win this game based on sheer 1:1 matchups.

I just want it to be a win where everything is in sync, and it looks like the coaches actually coached this team. Not just that we out-muscled them because we have better talent.

And this is where my issue is...it seems like the system right now is being called for a QB like Book and not Wimbush. It’s no secret that ND will struggle if BW is throwing it 40 times a game.

This is the key. These rankings aren't worth firing neurons over.

Who is responsible for BW not being able to make the correct read more often than not? This is something I keep thinking, "He's going to get it,..." yet every week their are multiple horrendous reads.

Stars are like varsity jackets from High School...you have to put them away once you arrive at college and start over. I did wonder how many 4-stars Ball State had on their team last week. It's on the coaches, but it's also on the players to come out and execute and play to our talent level this week. Need to curb stomp these guys this week.

Yes and no... the teams with the most four and five star players still tend finish atop the rankings and the teams with much higher recruiting rankings than their opponents still tend to win much more often than not.

Vandy is the Purdue of the SEC. Boilers always have a way of playing us tight. This game shouldn't be contested. It will be.

Quite possibly. My take is ND always plays better as the underdog. Games like this, we play down to the competition.

I am not sure how many people watched kelly’s pC today. When does it become concerning that every Pc is I or we have to prepare them better?

If you can’t figure out how to prepare these guys by now then you need to give it up. And if it’s that hard to prepare the players then you need to start sitting some and do a better job recruiting.

Media always asks the same questions, BK is going to keep giving the same answer. The only other possible answer is calling out players publicly who under performed. BK has rarely done that, but when he has, many on IE went running for their pitchforks.

This is his political, bs, empty answer for anything. An all encompassing answer that can "explain" anything (without actually explaining anything).

It also serves as him "falling on the sword" for his team. Which may or may not help protect their confidence (I personally don't think the player are that greatly honored by his "self-criticism)"

Well if it will help anyone stop feeling like a pantywaist about this game, a sharp betting site I saw yesterday (dont remember name, no link) declared to bet your balls off on ND to cover this weekend.

Just saw Derek Mason's PC on the SEC Network... very complimentary of ND's WRs and D. Says this is the most talent team he has had at Vandy. He says he assumes ND will try to run the ball down their throat, and plans to game plan for it..

As soon as NSD is over, stars rankings are irrelevant. If they stayed relevant through the football season, a lot of teams that are in the top 25 would never crack the top 25. At some point it turns to "want to", preparation, and execution.

Which is why teams like 'Bama and OSU regularly get upset by scrappy mid-majors, right?

There is great truth in this. My first emotion after watching the Ball St. game was frustration bordering on anger. My thought was “Man, I hope Kelly rips into his squad for playing the way they did. I hope he puts up nearly every starting position for grabs.” Silly me.

The bottomline is that we just don’t live in a society where fire and brimstone are tolerated anymore. So many feelings get hurt over nearly everything, sometimes even the slightest of criticisms or indiscretions. I mean, colleges can lose recruits because they don’t show them enough love on social media. The mainstream media also tends to scrutinize and play up moments because then the stories trend on social media which means hits and exposure.

Remember the female reporter that Kelly snapped at? His blowup became a human rights violation and is now being studied in gender equality classes in most major universities. Purple face Kelly is just bad for politics. He doesn’t want to be criticized on The View. So expect his PCs to be extra pc... if he can help it.
