One of my best friends in high school was/is a HUGE Michigan fan... we went to college together too and now have all the same college buddies... we're not really friends ourselves anymore... so fvk him and fvk his team...

true story.
Ugh probably my best buddy at work is a Michigan fan which is weird because normally I don't associate with Michigan fans. But then again I'm also good friends with a...*vomits* Bears fan too so I guess my work just makes for strange friendships haha.

I don't know why anyone would be confident of anything here.

The past 4 years, we have had the superior squad. We got beaten 3 out of 4 times. Once by refs (2009), once by a freak injury to Dayne Crist that forced Nate-freaking-Montana into the game (2010), and once by a ridiculous series of bad breaks (2011).

I don't see how we are definitively the better side this year. I only see a couple position groups where we have an edge, and see a couple where we don't. And we're away at night. Yeah, we COULD steamroll them. We could also get steamrolled by Michigan. It could be high scoring... it could be low scoring... I don't see how anyone thinks they can make an accurate prediction for this game.

We could go back in time and pull Montana or Theisman out in their primes, put the Bus in the backfield along with George Gipp, Tim Brown at WR with the Rocket, the most stellar OL you could assemble...etc, etc...and I still couldn't say who would win this game. You never know who is going to show up when we play scUM, and thats what makes it a great rivalry.

To the corner Lax. Reality has nothing to do with this board.

I'm confident because I trust in the development I've seen in this program since Kelly was hired, and, more specifically, since the beginning of the 2012 offseason.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I can't say for certain which position groups we're stronger than Michigan, but everything I've read leads me to believe we are better in most areas. I'm really looking forward to some non-bias breakdowns of this as the game nears. If anyone can post one that would be great.

I also believe we're a year ahead of Michigan in terms of developing a program. Hoke is entering his third year and, while they've recruited remarkably well in his time there, they're still a year behind and a very young team. The argument against this would be, "well, look at what ND did in BK's third year", but I would counter and say Michigan doesn't have the same type of senior leadership ND had last year. Maybe if they hadn't lost Jake Ryan I'd feel differently, but he's out and not playing, and I think Weis left BK with more to work with than RichRod left Hoke. (Clarification on that last sentence: I do realize Weis left a lot of holes that took BK a few recruiting classes to fill, but I'm talking specifically about players like Manti, Tyler, KLM, Motta, Cave, etc that played significant roles in last year's NCG run).

The only factor that gives me pause is the Under The Lights kickoff AT Michigan. Rees at the helm and the fact a lot of our players have played in big games under the lights (@ Oklahoma, @ USC and the NCG, even though we were steamrolled) gives me some comfort with that though.

We'll see what happens. The game could go a number of directions, but that's not going to scare me from trying to make an accurate prediction. ND 34 UM 19 (I think this is the 3rd different score I've given since Saturday, but each one has had ND scoring in the 30's and winning by 15+).

I don't understand why everyone seems so tense about this game....it's only going to shape how our entire season goes.

Big knot in my gut.

I hate Michigan so much. One of my good friends is a Michigan fan and he thinks they are going to roll us. I just want to kick the everlasting ****ing **** out of them and then laugh at their stupid fans. "But, but, but it's the Big House!!" Shut up! Let's beat the **** out of Michigan and burn the Big House to the ground! Go Irish!

Two things:

1) I dig this post above.

2) Has phork given his prediction yet? If not, what ya got dude?

Hate to say it, but I'm with LAX on this one. Certainly we could win, but I don't see how anyone could be too confident. Both teams will be up for this. I think it's a close game. Unless... we really did hold back against Temple and we have some surprises in store.

I'd love to see some more of those chunk plays. Just maybe TJ, Toot and CB will continue to impress and Rees can spread the ball around, keeping meatchicken on their heels.

Your post about 3rd and 1 reminded me of 2011. I recall two (were there more?) situations where we had 3rd and 1 and they completely smothered our running backs with run blitzes. I hope Kelly/Martin have a better understanding of Mattison so that we can pick up/exploit these short yardage situations. I don't remember many 3rd and 1's from last year.. Anybody recall?

Oh yes, I recall those from 2011. Those were some of the most telegraphed runs I can remember in a big game like that. Could have won the game by picking up those first downs.

I don't believe we had many 3rd and 1's last year, but we did seal the game on a 30+ yard pass on 3rd and 4th. Great check by Tommy if I remember correctly.

If we put 50+ on Temple like we should have, are the "experts" singing a different tune? I feel like everyone is trying to make too much out of the week 1 games where everyone played no one. Don't get me wrong, I love going on the road in a big game as the underdog, this week strangely reminds me of the MSU week last year. No one gave ND much of a shot, night game on the road, etc.

Although I'm with LAX in fear factor, I don't think there is any question that we held back at Temple. We only ran 10 different offensive plays, played 10 freshman, pulled Tommy and ran very basic defensive alignments.

Steamrolled?

Definition: To overwhelm or suppress ruthlessly; crush.

If we get steamrolled, it would be an epic failure by Notre Dame, a team who matches up very well with Michigan, is coming off a 12-0 year and in the 4th year of the program under the tutelage of a highly regarded coach.

The possibility of us getting steamrolled is very low.

I hate the week before this game. Im freaken stressed, cant sleep, feel a lil sick and right at kick off I could puke. After the past 3 out of the 4 yrs I have been close to being Baker Acted by my loved ones. I pray that ND plays the way they are capable and no weird 2011ish (or 09, or 10) fluke **** happens and I can save my sanity and a couple yrs on my life!
That said, a BIG FAT **** YOU to Michigan and GO IRISH!!!!

i think i have been lucky this week as i am here in Ireland last year I was with my wife's family back in the Mitten and it was unbearable. I was pretty much sick during both the UM and MSU game weeks with nerves. the games were awesome of course but the nerves man i lost alot of weight those weeks i think!
