Just trying to pump the brakes a bit. The hype effluent is getting thick.
Anywhere to watch a replay yet? I'd like to return to the scene of the crime.
Deshone Kizer may actually have more yards and completions than Swoopes by the time the night is up. And he is 0/1 with 0 yards with 5 mins left.
I'm searching as well.
Reading the Texas board they loved everything about the notre dame experience, only thing they were not high on was ND stadium but they did like not having ads forced down their throats during time outs tho
Alabama played Wisconsin who was ranked.
From the comment section:An ND alum complains in the Observer about ND students booing the Texas alma mater.
I agree that is silly to boo another team's alma mater. Boo their fight song, boo their band, boo their players, etc., but at least be indifferent during their alma mater. The rightful exception to this general rule is of course Navy (and the other academies), where everybody, including our players, is respectful and attentive.
That was a misunderstanding. The ND student body had already begun singing the alma mater without waiting for the ND Band to play because the team had already gathered in the corner. The students believed that the Texas band was trying to drown out our alma mater.

Sorry, I was flat out wrong in what I actually said! ND had the best performance, would have been more along the lines of what I was looking for. I base that on pre-game hype, history of opponent, talent, not being an FBS school, and registering an oppressive opening win, where both the offense and defense do outstanding jobs :
Offense - Seven receivers (distribution intended for 10) , 250 yards plus rushing (without the losses 217 net while loosing your leading rusher retuning, as well as the entire roster [top three] from the previous season), two touchdown drives of ninety plus yards, incredible TOP domination,* and the second highest single game performance rating of a Notre Dame quarterback, ever! Absolute domination of the pace of the game, they hurried when they wanted and took their time doing what they wanted, when they wanted to control the clock.
Defense - 24 tacklers, 19 with at least two assists, four solo sacks from four different players, domination of a large, fast quarterback (which has always given us fits see UM, UNC, etc., from last year,) opponent held to 163 total yards, (and if you take out one play of 48 that leaves what? 115?), an incredibly solid defensive interior, excellent defensive end play, and linebackers with out of this world fluidity. Does anyone remember any time the defense played this fast since Holtz was coach? Oh, and zero problem with the hurry-up offense.**
Sorry again I was so sloppy, reps for pointing it out and giving me a chance to correct it!
* When is the last time an ND team dominated time of possession, and it could have been worse, but they sped things up early and in the middle a bit.
** The guys actually looked like they had nothing to think about, missing entirely the trademark wait indecisiveness of the Weis era and previous Kelly years. I think there are three or four opponents today deciding to scrap the UNC offensive plan!
My impression, from being in the student section, was that everyone was pretty surprised that they were even singing their alma mater, and particularly that one of the Texas cheerleaders was waving their large flag around. I still think they (we) should have been more deferential. Besides, the visiting team's alma mater is typically sung first (if at all).
Texas was supposed to play their alma mater before ND. The real issue was that the Texas band was supposed to start much before when they actually started playing. Since they waited it ended up overlapping with when the students expected the ND alma mater to be played.
Source: I am friends with the intern in the athletics department in charge of telling the other band when they can play their alma mater. He said he had to yell at their band director multiple times to finally get them to play -- the band director just did not care to obey the rules ND set out.
I am now a huge fan of Texas for the rest of the season. I hope they grab a W against Rice and only traject upwards as the season moves along.
Same, Strong is a great coach, he has a tough road trying to change the culture at Texas. I expect them to be much better by next year when we face them in Austin. I hope we're still favored, but I anticipate the score being much closer.

Yea, I'll be very optimistic with Zaire heading down there next year but with how much we potentially lose after this season I expect that to be a much more competitive game.
Offensively though we wont have a huge drop off. Losing Stanley and Martin will hurt but we are close to a point where we are just reloading the offensive line. Plus if Swoops is still the quarterback, we wont really need a good defense because he is pretty awful.
