The kid worked to improve his academics and showed out at the UA game. ND might have been his first major offer, but he deserves a chance to look around now that his work has paid off.

I thought it was Syracuse that Manti visited for? Either way...they know it snows here. I hope for the best possible conditions so they can enjoy the visit more and see everything they want to see and walk the campus and not be miserable while doing so. Other than players who sign an LOI and whose grandmas aren't fake-sick, who is ever 'committed' officially?

And LOTS of players turn their backs on schools who helped them get their name out there. Kolin Hill is thinking of doing just that. Zack Martin's lil bro did it to Kentucky. Danny Spond did it to Colorado. TJ Jones turned his back on Stanford. Golson turned his back on North Carolina. This list goes on forever.

As for Mckenzie, well, you can believe what you want about ND being the only school to notice him, but that just isn't true. A kid with his incredible highlights playing in Florida for a school on TV as much as his school did, that kid would have been noticed for sure. ND was just the first of the big boys. And he repaid them by getting interested in other schools as soon as those big offers came through, despite reports that he is qualified for ND (I've heard otherwise, Mike a frank eluded toit as well on Power Hour).

I hope he signs with ND, but to say its out of the equation that he signs elsewhere, again, is being blind to the realities of the situation.

To be fair, the sanctions looming against UNC really pushed him to look elsewhere.

Sure he's enjoying his OV's, but what kid would put himself through the process to get his grades up and pass the SAT or ACT to get admission to ND and then say "no thanks" when a lessor effort would land him elsewhere? Mnay players are pressured to "commit" to the first big school that offers. Then, they are encouraged to look around when other offers start coming in. I agree that the reason McKenzie wasn't getting much in the way of offers was not that schools didn't know about him but rather the fact that his academic status was delaying serious interest in him. Since it now appears he will qualify, some of the other schools have came back around. I could very easily see him landing at Florida. To say he is all Notre Dame at this point is probably a bit premature.

Some bad examples there. Everyone knew who Zach Martin's brother was. He committed to UK early on because that's where his parents went to school, but he most certainly wasn't an unknown. TJ Jones was never going to Stanford nor did they help him get noticed. TJ was a well known player throughout the southeast and one of the top players in football crazy Georgia (where I live). Highly recruited. Golson was well known as well here in the southeast and decided against UNC because of coaching changes and the NCAA snooping around the program for violations. Kolin Hill truly has come out of nowhere. A lot of recruiting analysts were completely unaware of him as were most schools.

ND, Michigan, Stanford and Ohio State all offered Golson before his SR. season. Martin had offers from Michigan, Michigan St., Tennessee before ND got involved.

And still does. IMO we have an 85% or better of landing IM as long as the academics are in order.
