The other thing is someone posted above that 13% of 5:s: players become 1st round draft picks. That means if you recruited a class of 23 5:s: players... which is absurd to think about... you'd only get 3 1st round draft choices in that bunch.

So landing studs is surely important, but it's clearly much more important to build a cohesive, well-rounded, single-minded team like Alabama or Stanford or Oregon than it is to try to just out talent people... because it's basically impossible to recruit well enough to guarantee success.

Get an identity and get the right guys for that identity. I think we're very close to doing that with '13 + '14.

bolded below

Front seven recruiting == Strong. (Lots of bodies and potential with some elite guys)
O-line recruiting == The best

Trenches == Mission complete if you ask me. Not if we lose Hill (along with losig Yeargin)

Solid QB ... checked

Great receivers / playmakers ... Checked, class is not over with.

No RB. Hood would have been nice, but not needed per say.

Strong kicker. Check

Secondary, elite corner. Alexander would be very welcome. I would not consider NW elite at this stage.

TE ... Check.

This class is a great compliment to last year's class.

Can't stress enough the type of players we got in the defensive front 7. High motor, high energy kids who play the game with passion. BVG's kind of guys. We'll look back in a few years and realize some of these 3 stars were a lot better than people realized. People need to understand a lot of kids develop and mature later in life than others. Guys like Hill, Bonner, Blankenship, Williams and Trumbetti are just starting to scratch the surface of their potential.

I'm sure this has been posted somewhere, but I was bored last night and wanted to see what the IrishMob13 and GoldenArmy14 looked like together. If we can add a few guys in this cycle, and then get some studs that come in and play sooner than later in the next two classes, we will be competing for a playoff position the next 3-4 seasons, but especially when the Mob are seniors in 2016.

QB: Malik Zaire, DeShone Kizer
RB: Greg Bryant, Tarean Folston
WR: Corey Robinson, Will Fuller, James Onwualu, Torii Hunter, Jr., Justin Brent, Corey Holmes
TE: Durham Smythe, Mike Heuerman, Nic Weishar, Tyler Luatua
OL: Steve Elmer, Hunter Bivin, Colin McGovern, John Montelus, Mike McGlinchey, Alex Bars, Quenton Nelson, Sam Mustipher, Jimmy Byrne
DL: Issac Rochell, Jacob Matuska, Andrew Trumbetti, Grant Blankenship, Jay Hayes, Pete Mokwuah
LB: Jaylon Smith, Doug Randolph, Michael Deeb, Nyles Morgan, Greer Martini, Kolin Hill, Jonathan Bonner, Nile Sykes, Jhonathon Williams
DB: Cole Luke, Devin Butler, Rashad Kinlaw, Max Redfield, Nick Watkins, Drue Tranquill

You just proved the absolute importance of player development!

A little nit picky, but Bonner is definitely going to be a DE for us, not a LB. Other than that I am with you completely.

Here is how I break down our class

Borderline Elite
Morgan
Nelson
Brent

Great Players
Bars
Trumbetti

Very Good Players
Watkins
Holmes
Weishar
Hayes (though there is some risk there)
Blankenship

Good players
Martini
Byrne
Mustipher
Newsome

High Upside
Williams
Mokwuah
Hill
Luatua
Kizer

Solid
Tranquil
Sykes
Bonner

Remaining recruits
IM Very Good
Juju Elite
Quick Elite
Cage High Upside
Alexander Good
Sawyer Solid

IMO we are currently a very good class, add Quick, Cage and Alexander and we might have a great class. If by some miracle we add Juju to Quick, Cage and Alexander then we are looking at an elite class. If we get IM, Cage and Alexander then I think we stay at the very good level.

Good work on this. I look at that 2 year D and Oline hauls and get very excited. Even if we lose Hill, which I definitely don't want to, this is still two years of very good front seven recruiting. Like you said though, we should add to this.

Makes me wonder whether Blankenship will stay at LB. Not sure how big he is/will get but he could be a Troy Niklas-type OLB, right?

If we play more 4-3 than 3-4, then he's definitely moving to DE. He's not a 4-3 OLB because by the time he sees the field, he'll be too big IMO. He's still got the frame to fill out.

Yes, I was a bit unsure where to put Bonner and J. Williams. I think they both end up at DE eventually, but from what I could remember there was a lot of talk about them starting out at the position formerly known as CAT LB. I've kind of been in-and-out the past month or so though.

I'm really hoping to add, in order:

1. Alexander
2. Another DT (Sawyers is my personal preference)
3. Quick
4. McKenzie

Blankenship will be a DE too. TJ and other site mods seem pretty certain both Blankenship and Bonner are being targeted to develop into DEs and they are excited about their potential, especially Grant.

Oh yeah, def true. The potential system change occurred to me right after I posted.

Literally nothing to the update on Juju, Quick and Luatua. Quick is coin flip, USC people confident with JuJu, Luatua will sign with ND barring something drastic.

I think next year is the year we get at least 1 superstar playmaker on O.

Plug him into the Oline we have recruited the past few years and we should be golden.

Well we're already getting Barnett (knock on wood) so I'm assuming you mean another one?

I'm totally good with that.

I mean RB or WR that will come in freshman year and make plays. The core of the O should be good/very good, with the O line being amazing IMO.

Barnett looks good, but I don't know if he starts freshman year.

Do you mean specifically WR? Because Folston and Bryant is a Grand Slam combo. Especially since Bryant was able to preserve a year of eligibility.

I haven't completely thought this through lol

But I'm thinking more of a speed guy that gets some minutes, not starting (Pretty clear Folston is leading the pack right now).

At WR, a 5* game breaker could get see a good amount of time IMO

I love our WR group over the last two years but I would also like to see us land a Treadwell type WR. With that said I should add that if we get Quick and or Mckenzie I love what this offense could do with the group as a whole.

WR gamebreaker = 1) Hunter, Jr., 2) Fuller, 3) Maybe even Prosise, when he learns the position.

I haven't added Quick or IM into my thoughts for the 2015 season.

I havent seen Hunter play, so idk about him, but Fuller did show he has some speed to make plays. So maybe he could be that guy. And for me, Prosise is a role player.

Love the list! I see bonner and J.williams on the DL though and not at linebacker.

Nvm just seen others post this same thought...

Brown and fuller will finally have a qb that can hit them in stride when they take the lid off the defense. They will have numerous 70yd TDs . This will lead to a ton of 9 yd runs . #Golson

So what you're saying is that we will have the next Oregon offense and that Golson wins the Heisman???
