All quiet in Austin these days, and Horns are picked to finish midpack in Big 12.....all the makings for a tester on opening day?

Some clubs are more receptive to non-alums than other. It all comes down to the people putting on events. I have come across a few winners over the years that get snobby to non-alums. If you EVER have that experience, please bring it to the attention of other local board members and the ND mothership.

When I go to events, I want to chat with people about ND related stuff and non-alums are often way more interesting on that front than alums. Our subway support is a fantastic thing that should be celebrated.

Our club buys tickets at face and sells them at a premium to raise money. For example GT pairs for $250, Texas $330/pair but lottery to get it is oversubscribed with $200/year donors who get first dibs. Just got notice that they are doing a bus day trip to Virginia, $175 for bus, ticket and tailgate, $40 bus only, $45 ND tailgate so amounts to $90/ticket. The club tickets are usually crappy and they don't tell you the location when they put these things out. Typically a good deal for better games and not so great for lesser games. People running ticket programs for local clubs can be self dealing in my experience (financial advisors currying favor). That type of thing should make ND types sick to their stomach but amazing how little it takes to compromise some principles for those on the inner circle.

As for Texas - I can't believe this game is priced this high for what I view to be a second tier opponent this year. My uppers behind the students might be up for grabs but I am not going to seriously look at it until they are in hand in a few weeks.

Texas is always a first tier opponent imo... just like when ND fell hard, even at the end of 2007... people pay big bucks to see ND. Texas my be a lesser version of that then ND is, but they are still a brand name in cfb... always first tier.

Been a big fan of Strong since his days of coaching DL at ND. He's saying the right things here, and from my time meeting him back in '97 he does command your respect: Charlie Strong of Texas Longhorns weary of domestic violence 'excuses'

"There is no way a guy should hit a woman," he said. "There is no reason for it. If it happens, you need to find somewhere else to play. It isn't hard. Sometimes people think it's hard. You have values. Treat women with respect. No drugs. No weapons. How hard is that? I don't get it."

"I said, 'Part of the problem is, if we allow it to happen in college, when they make it to the NFL there is not much we can do because we have allowed it to happen,'" Strong said. "So now, their hands are tied. I look at it like this. Some of the things we allow to happen just baffle me."

Smart man.

I hope he does VERY well at UT. Would love to have him on the short list for the next HC at ND. Of course I hope Sanford does better and gets it. Seamless transition and grew up in Michiana so he knows every aspect of the culture, inside and out.

Wow. Apparently the player in question was mentioned by the nickname the staff had for him to the media: NCAA, for No Contact At All.

You stay classy, Texas.

I'll be in Austin, TX for this game weekend for a bachelor party. Wear burnt orange, fit in, and possibly get laid...or stay loyal to the blue and gold and get run out of every sports bar in town?

Seriously.

The obvious answer is to wear your ND gear and still get laid. What's wrong with you.

I've been all around Austin in my ND gear... Maybe got one or two curious looks and that's it... Now of course game day is different but I have been to other campuses/ college towns with my ND gear and suffered more than a curious looks... Austin's a great place and seems pretty accepting, although vlk is our resident expert and maybe knows something I don't...

Too much! I feel sorry for Charlie Strong. And some of us thought life as a ND coach was a bitch!

Thanks for the get though, Wiz!

That's stupid. Live animal mascots are one of the great things about college football.

With the exception of UGA... I can't think of one team that makes me be like.. Man.. Can't wait to visit LSU so I can see that live Tiger...
