Dude, if that targeting is called, we never go to OT... Period.

Good point. I didn't like cj on the sidelines in the 2nd overtime. Bk made some bad choices. Number one mistake is keeping Van gorder

Does anyone else feel the returned block kick actually hurt us? Had we not scored on it and just blocked it, we would have been down 2. We would have been more aggressive in the play calling instead of settling to play for a tie and OT. Could have won the game with a FG or TD instead.

Yes . Only person that stopped kizer from scoring tonight was Kelly

Yes. If Kelly had simply named Kizer the starter, we win the shoot out and it never goes to OT. BvG is on him as well in year 3. This Texas team had no f*cking business scoring 50+ on a defensive roster full of 4 star recruits.

It's ridiculous, the guy should be gone. Tomorrow. I really mean that.

That the offense has to score 50 points to win is the problem. Yeah, Kelly should have made the choice, but this is totally on the defense imo. Offense hung 47 points, we should have won. Uncle Rico must go

Don't give up soooooo many points. We didn't deserve to win. Texas wanted it wayyyyy more than us.

Yup. I want to see all the posters that were chastising those of us that thought this would be a close game. A lot of people laughed and said this would be a blow out again. Strong is a good coach. If they can keep up the intensity and Buchele plays smart, they very well could win the Big 12 this year.

Five things we learned: Texas 50, Notre Dame 47
10 Comments
By Keith Arnold Sep 5, 2016, 1:43 AM EDT

1. Three seasons into Brian VanGorder’s tenure as Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator, his unit is the same as it ever was.

2. Brian Kelly wouldn’t say it after the game. But DeShone Kizer needs to be Notre Dame’s starting quarterback.

3. Without Torii Hunter, Notre Dame’s wide receiving corps is lost.

4. Newcomers Equanimeous St. Brown and Shaun Crawford made big-time debuts.

5. One loss does not make a season. But fixing what ails this team is Job No. 1 for Brian Kelly and his staff.

We want UT to win. If we finish 11-1 which is unlikely but not entirely crazy, I think we are in.

I wonder about two alternate universes.

1. What happens if they call targeting as they shold have.

2. What happens if ND doesn't block that Extra point.

In both scenarios, I think that ND probably wins.

This team needs to grow some balls. Season is not over but the margin got error evaporated when they decided to not play physical.

Also, I'm hurting to say this, but Malik had about 2 or 3 too many chances. Once BK realized UT was going to move the ball, I wish he had just left Kizer in. It is what it is.

The Irish also lost safety Avery Sebastian with an injury suffered during the second overtime of Sunday's 50-47 loss. After attempting to tackle Texas' Tyrone Swoopes, Sebastian was inadvertently hit in the head by a teammate's leg.

Kelly said Sebastian's injury seemed like a shoulder injury or stinger.

It is entirely crazy. We can't even hold Texas below 40.

Honestly, I didn't sleep very well last night. Been up the better portion of today. Say what you want, I don't care. This one stings.

Only IE would have a pseudo serious discussion about playoffs hours after giving up 50 points to an unranked team led by a freshman.......

While it's not likely, it's possible. Also, he was an EE I believe. Seems to hold quite a bit of weight when we EE a guy as far as production we expect that year.

Honestly, I don't think Texas is that good. Yeah, they are fast and improved, but no, not top 15 good. That's what unsettles me the most.

There are no bright/positive spots (if any at all) from the game yesterday other than ESB Kizer and Crawford. The defense is garbage and its sickening to watch.
Also reading the "well if we just go 11-1 and Texas wins out" scenarios are hilarious. Winning out is an insane proclamation right now. You think Mich. St. Stanford and USC are locked up W's? We'll be lucky to beat Navy/Miami if we don't play better. Not to mention praying Texas runs the table. I am so tired of mediocrity over the past 10+ years. 9-3/10-2 seasons are for second tier programs. I was infuriated when they announced the contract extension of BK. I can't stand it.

How old are you? I'm asking because I'm 33 and have been a fan since I was 10. All I've known is mediocrity, outliers 93, 96, 2012, 2015 and maybe a few more years. So for 23 years I've seen mediocrity. Not just the 10 years you mentioned. It's not like MD was winning national championships and BCS games on the 13+ years you left off.
