speaking of Kelly, Notre Dame is an unimpressive 5-9 ATS as road favorites in the Kelly era.

BIG DIFFERENCE than the original stat

That's only 14 total games though. Hasn't he played more road games as a favorite than that?

I just don't get why so many people are picking against us. I understand that the game is in Austin, but last time I checked ND is #10 and UT is unranked. I miss something else?

Tenn is #9 and App St is a below average program... Sometimes teams are over ranked and sometimes teams match up well against certain teams regardless of rankings...

I feel like we bash Texas for being subpar in certain areas but for us we just assume we will be great... LAst year we were terrible against the run... Does that change? Our safeties are big concerns and I'm not 100% sure an OL that lost the #6 pick in the NFL draft and a C that was going to start for the Texans is going to not miss a beat right away... I think ND wins, but I think this game comes down to the last play Stanford style....

As for guys like Farley playing well in the NFL... Maybe BVG's complicated system prepares these players really well for the NFL and they come in well ahead of other rookies... I just wish it would translate on the field for us

I think we're wildly overrated at #10.

Still think we win though.

Haven't looked it up, but we only play 5ish true road games per year. Figure we're the favorite in half of them and 14 games would be about six seasons worth.

It does seem odd but a lot of those games weren't true road games. BC last year for example was a neutral site game and technically ND was the home team since it was the Shamrock Series game. Others like Syracuse and Navy are at "neutral sites" as well. For some reason I think Temple wasn't even at Temple's normal home field either, not sure on that one tho.

I think true road games last year were UVa, Clemson, Pitt and Stanford. Year before was FSU, ASU and USC. We play a lot of games at neutral sites even tho it may be in the opponents backyard so I'm assuming these stats may not take those into account as being a true road game.

Having Jarron Jones, Martini, and Morgan in the front seven this year means good things for our run defense. Using Tranquill at SS and a guy who should be backing up SS at FS will also help. I have lots of confidence against the run. I am terrified of what our pass defense will be like.

I think it means a lot to hear the players themselves saying they have a much better handle on BVGs system. Sometimes it's just positive spin but in this case I believe them..

In the past, players had no problem comparing the system to learning Chinese and all that. So, to hear that it's become a learned system now and the experienced players are teaching the freshman it just feels like a natural progression.

I'm oddly complacent about this season. I'm at the point where I feel like the personnel is good enough to compete in every game and now it's about coaching.

This is where I'm at. In fact, if we can't stop the run with the shear girth of our front 4 (including the rotational players), then we are in for a looong season. I don't know what to expect from our secondary. They are young, but we have a mix of experience and inexperience. Maybe Crawford and Luke are the truth. Maybe one or two other freshman really step up. Maybe Studstill is the 2nd coming.

Maybe Tranquil stays healthy and lights foos up. If we can be top 30 against the run, then our pass defense only needs to be in the 50-60 for us to have a pretty good D. That's really not setting the bar that high.

Then it comes down to our offense putting up points and keeping the pressure on the other team. If we can get up 2+ scores in some of these games, I think BVG can get more of our pass rushers/nickel packages on the field to apply pressure and force TOs/negative plays.

But all of the above hinges on one thing: we must be able to stop the run and our O must be able to put pts on the board in bunches.

Hearing that Shackelford and Vahe are questionable for Sunday. Nickelson may or may not play, Hodges might get the start. So...probably all 3 start Sunday

Honestly, I hope they start. I don't want to hear excuses from horns fans if ND puts a hurtin on em. Their line is young enough, pre-injury that our defensive front should be eating.

I still don't have much faith in the defense with BVG's scheme but I do have faith in our offense. I don't think Texas can out score them unless we turn the ball over 4 or 5 times. ND wins by 14 and I originally thought we would only win by 4-8.

MY plane leaves tonight at 6 from Des Moines. My two best buds who I grew up watching every game with and I rented a house in Austin, and the wives are coming too!

Austin's going to be out of Lone Star by the time I leave Monday morning.

GO IRISH!

Welcome to Texas!

Looking forward to seeing all the domers in the stands. Gonna be an awesome atmosphere.

Tell your buds to take you to Gordo's in the morning to nurse that hangover!

Agreed, we can't have turnovers. Especially ones where we give them a short field. We need to make those QB's work for yards/pts. and this will be a game where a few first downs and a punt, will be better than trying to force action and turning the ball over.

Exactly. Texas doesn't want a field position game with us. Assuming our backs are beasts, we can grind with the best of them.

Texas can't. Not against our Dline.

Texas will need easy TD's and field position.
