Four-star wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie told Brian Kelly during a late January in-home visit that he was coming to Notre Dame. Then, he and the Irish parted ways once the offer from Virginia Tech showed up last Wednesday and Notre Dame told him there was no spot for him unless he took his final official visit to South Bend. He was set to sign with Ole Miss upon returning from the Virginia Tech official until the Georgia offer arrived at 3:30 p.m. Monday. His connection with his teammate, four-star RB Sony Michel, and the support system in place in Athens for him proved to the ultimate deciding factor.

And the fact everyone else said no thanks.

I just don't see this young man ever getting his head on straight.

I love the simultaneous hand-wringing over a three-star we didn't get while also complaining that we didn't land any 5s.

I'm wondering if IM simply decided that he was not willing to bust his tail for 4 more years like he had the previous 2-3 month and just gave up on the academic piece. It's like being overweight for your whole life and then a hot fitness instructor convinces you to take a few classes to get in shape. Initially you are super motivated to do it. But after a while, you fall back into your lazy habits you've had your entire life and just give up on the "dream".

If that's the case, he may have just made a huge mistake on many fronts. Kid needs to understand that the world does not get any easier after college, even if he does go on to have a pro career, that of which most likely will not last very long.

If you step back a second and look at this, think of the failure of adult guidance that would take an 18 year old from a top notch (more or less university-enforced) education at a school that really really wants you and is committing to your personal development and academic success to a (no-doubt) pretty good school that you've never seen or investigated academically (or otherwise) and that doesn't have any real personal investment in you, other than "Well, Sony likes him and, hell, we've got an open scholly we ain't using, go ahead and let him sign. We can always dump him next year; he'll give us plenty of opportunities to do so."

And how can Georgia know without meeting him if he meets their academic requirements? (Should I have used italics?)

Georgia's Bryan McClendon Named 247Sports' Class of 2014 Recruiter of the Year
By Brian Leigh , Featured Columnist Feb 5, 2014

University of Georgia running backs coach Bryan McClendon finished atop the 247Sports National Recruiter Rankings for 2014, closing strong on national signing day to take home the title of "Recruiter of the Year."

Per JC Shurburtt of 247Sports:

#UGA RBs coach Bryan McClendon is #247Sports National Recruiter of the Year for 2014 (FREE) Georgia's McClendon is 247Sports National Recruiter of the Year @coachingsearch

— JC Shurburtt (@jcshurburtt) February 6, 2014
McClendon earned the distinction after locking down two final commitments on Wednesday—one more hotly contested than the other.

The more predictable one, Lorenzo Carter, was actually the more important, as Carter is a 5-star recruit and the No. 18 overall player on the 247Sports composite. He chose the in-state Bulldogs over Alabama.

The less predictable one, Isaiah McKenzie, is a 4-star receiver from Florida and the No. 151 overall player on the 247Sports subjective rankings. He chose the Bulldogs over Virginia Tech and Ole Miss.

"It is an honor," said McClendon of the recognition, according to Kipp Adams of 247Sports. "Obviously the big kudos needs to go to the University of Georgia, because everything at this institution makes my job a lot easier and allows me to be where I am now."

On the whole, McClendon was credited with landing nine recruits this cycle, including three 5-stars, four 4-stars and two 3-stars. The 5-stars he landed, aside from Carter, were running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, whom he will coach in his positional group at UGA.

Other notable players McClendon landed include offensive guard Isaiah Wynn, defensive end Keyon Brown and offensive tackle Kendall Baker.

McClendon was able to hold off a late push from USC receivers coach Tee Martin, who watched the fruits of his labor unfold in a big way on national signing day, resulting in four commitments, including two from 5-star players in Adoree' Jackson and John "JuJu" Smith, who announced their commitments on ESPNU.

Martin finished second in the rankings, but the day belongs to McClendon and, of course, to the Georgia Bulldogs. According to Adams' piece, Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo won National Recruiter of the Year in 2011, so the program appears set in attracting talent on that side of the ball—at least for the immediate future.

And on the other side of the ball, new defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, who won National Recruiter of the Year in 2013 at Florida State, is far from a slouch out on the trail.

Still a hell of a return. If he was at ND and did this against Rice then what?

It was A return against a total crap team that has no business playing a team of UGAs pedigree. Not sure what else matters.

I'd love to have this guy returning our kicks but he didn't have the maturity or mental capacity to be at ND (or maybe we are deluded and he was trolling us the whole time).

Either way, he would've been great on our team.
