Thanks. I personally think beating OU last year is a huge reason as to why Coach Strong still has a job.

Beating Baylor in their season ending game kept him above water too. They got so lucky with Baylor's QB injuries, a healthy Bears team puts 80 pts on them, no joke.

Well, good luck to you boys.

I presume you're a Texan? I fully expect this year's game to be more competitive. Care to give us your thoughts on strengths/weaknesses of your team? Perhaps a prediction? We always like to hear from rivals fans as long as conversation is respectful.

I really like Coach Strong, I expect Texas to be an improved team this year.

I am not scared at all. It will be closer than last year but I expect to win by 10 or more.

Totally. They just aren't put together well enough at this point to run with ND. If they do start a freshman QB, I think the outcome could be as intense as last year. We have a few slight question marks on our roster (Nyles Morgan? Our pass rush? RG?) but they have about a dozen question marks and most importantly, a big ? At the QB position. We roll against Texas.

as long as we leave Austin with a win, I'll be happy. Make or break season for Strong, Baylor's demise should help him. Already has with recruiting.

Texas will be better this year.

And BTW, it's not a "make or break" year for Strong provided he's competitive in every game and has a winning season. That's the minimum for most Texas head coaches (Mack III got away with blowout losses to OU somehow).

Lots of folks are at their end waiting on Strong. Without the victory at Baylor at the end of last season, he was a goner last year. They're picked 5th in preseason conference rankings. Without significant improvement, he'll be looking over his shoulder, and the Houston coach is waiting for the first of Strong or Sumlin to fall.

Who are the people wanting to get rid of Strong? Do you know any of them, or are you just looking at the garbage ESPN puts out?

BTW, Tom Herman is the Houston coach. He has exactly one year of head coaching experience. Last year was pretty good, but in general his resume is kind of thin.

A winning season and competitive in every game?

Hey man, you root for Texas, so you go out there and YOU BE SATISFIED WITH THAT 7-5 RECORD, BUDDY!

WOOHOO.

Texas, a team that should dominate one of the most talent-rich states in the country on the recruiting trail, a team that should have its pick of high-end high school players, a team that plays in a conference where 5 wins should be guaranteed in conference play alone...

You're right, Strong could just keep coasting in mediocrity, and Texas should keep him around as long as they have a record greater than 6-6. Just let that sleeping-giant-of-a-program nap a little longer, even if Charlie doesn't start winning big this year.

There is a thread about firing Strong on the ut message board has 11,700+ replies
Fire Charlie

To play devil's advocate, it is the Shag. 11,699 of those replies are probably in jest, and the OP's post could be the only serious one. They're a funny bunch. Case in point, from that thread:

I love coming to the football board and the top two threads are "We will beat Notre Dame" and "Fire Charlie."

Don't change anything, Shaggy. You are perfect just the way you are.
I haven't read the entire thread since last year, but generally people on the Shag feel Strong needs time. Obviously it's his third year and there should be some improvement here, and I think there will be, but they may still be a year away from being really good. I do think the game against them will be much closer than last year, I think Bullneck has that right.

I live in Dallas, so UT is omnipresent. Daughter graduated from UT. Know many alum. Charlie can't have another year like last year. Best game was OU's worst, and beat Baylor that had a WR playing QB. Winning those 2 saved his arse, no doubt. UT alum not going to be happy getting blown out big (TCU, ISU, etc), living in the middle of the conference rankings, and being out recruited by Baylor(maybe not anymore), TCU, TAMU, and OU. Stadium expansion + price increases came at same time as demise to the team and a bad AD hire, leaving alum/fans antsy and ready to move on. No doubt there is pressure and Strong knows it.

Herman may be short on head coach experience, but he's arguably one of the hottest "prospects" out there, and talk around here is TAMU and UT will snatch him, depending on who fails first.

My wife's UT family is in town right now... was just talking with her Longhorn brother and yeah, he likes Charlie and doesn't agree with it but he 'feels' like Strong has to show noted improvement or the powers that be will be out for blood.

btw, I accidentally put on last year's ND/UT replay yesterday..... oops.

Strong today admitted expectations at UT are high, as they should be. Minimum 8 win season is the expectation , or....adios, mofo.
Says he's good going with the freshman QB, has enough "around him" to be confident.

Coach Strong need not worry, ND defenses are notorious for kick starting opposing QB's Heisman campaigns. (no italics b/c that shit is for real)

To be fair, DeShaun Watson (heisman finalist) had easily his worst game against us last year.

Yeah, those were the defenses of old... BVG's defenses are pretty good for ruining a QB's day, at least early in the season, and as long as their name isn't "Matt Johns."

may have been defenses of old, but I still have Tate Forcier nightmares. Matt Johns had a great game against us so my point is still somewhat valid IMO, but I digress.

Supreme longshot but does anyone know anyone selling a pair of tickets for this game? Got everything booked but the seats for the game so far.
