Wow college gameday is at north dakota state this week? Not expecting them to be here but thats sad. Anyways i think this is a huge game for us, we got a tough 4 game stretch and i think it would be huge to get on track here which could set the tone. Hopefully were firing on all cylinders

Wife and I are heading up for the game. I heard there was a men's BBall scrimage at noon. Is it open to the public? Free? Sorry, never been to a bball game, and wanted to attend if possible.

The Joyce Center is usually full of ND tailgaters lining up at the restroom on gameday, at least in my experiences.

I read somewhere that there's only one game this weekend between ranked opponents (ASU @ Stanford) and ASU wasn't ranked until Sunday (presumably after CGD makes their decision). I like that they're giving some love to a school like NDSU.

it may not be open to the public but if you go into the joyce center the tunnels to the court are usually just blocked with a rope or a sliding gate that you can see through. So you will be able to stand and catch some practice/scrimmage.

what is anyone's experience getting tickets on Friday or Saturday? I've always had tickets, my guy this year said I could get tickets but they'd be singles, which is no fun.. online have been like $125+, I'd expect that to be less closer to game day.. has anyone ever scalped on gameday? Success? Also, what is everyone favorite section?

Very confident about this game. ND's defense has shown some weakness this year obviously but I think they still a terrible matchup for MSU's style of offense.

The fact that this is a rivalry game prevents me from calling this game a "lock" but I really do like Notre Dame's chances in this one.

I think ND has a great chance of jumping up early... I seriously doubt MSU will be ready for the strength/speed combo ND will bring in comparison to their first three opponents... it may very well catch them off guard early, especially after they ‘figured it all out’ against a far inferior opponent last week.

I would take either one of those if I were the Irish. Plus, it appears neither of their two methodologies are very reliable - not that it matters.

I agree, and I'm not expecting an Irish loss. There are lots of reasons to be skeptical of that projection right now.

I think it's going to be a dog fight. We crushed them last year and that it's always really physical between the 2 teams. I think we win, but it won't be easy.

It'll definitely be physical, and MSU will play their best game of the year so far. I hope we do the same, we can't sleepwalk through another one. If Carlisle/GA III start, they'll need to be quick and avoid contact. I hope Cam plays and the line blocks hard though. A big day from DD/TJ/Niklas would be nice too.

I agree it should be a physical game. But I think the Irish gets it done. Put up 17+ and I think you guys will be fine.

That F/+ crap is all sorts of goofy.

For the Stanford game against ASU, it has a total points scored of 95.

We win - where would that push us rankings wise? Maybe we stay the same? Go to #20? You know... our team is somehow ranked right there with Ole Miss... (Jeeze o petes!)

We lose - Out of top 25 probably not to see the light of day for a bit... every Notre Dame hater in the universe has Christmas.

I know we don't like to think of this often... but people expect ND to win this weekend... any loss or (God forbid Overtime) will instantly discredit this team. Notre Dame needs to beat the DOG S*** out of Michigan State. A statement needs to be made.

That said, I see a 24-10 ND win coming on.

(not directed at you, but I want to say something on this point)

This goes in two ways in my opinion, how fervid a fan one is, and devotion to a particular team.

The former is totally fine to question. I did. I've toned it wayyyyy down since the '11 Michigan game. I don't think grown men should ever get too upset when 21-year old strangers don't play against other 21-year old strangers as well as they'd like. It should ruin your day exactly never.

Then there's the latter, is Notre Dame your team? Well to hell with you if you change your mind here. :)

Back to the former: honestly there aren't many things more childish and unmasculine (a word?) than some of the rants on the gameday threads. A bunch of drunk children with too little going on in their lives. It's the creation of this stupid social game of becoming the biggest fan, which gives us this ****:

packers-fan.jpg

Woooo!! How much do you love your team?!?!?! WOOOOOOO!!!!

But when it's not going our way, this:

ohio-state-crying-man1.jpg

Calm. The. ****. Down. People. When you win, act like you've been there before, but do the same when you lose.

I'm not at all saying one cannot voice concerns, criticize, or get passionate. I do all of those things in spades. But it should never negatively impact you. And again I'm not calling you out (I think I even agree with your concerns) I'm calling the rest out, and you haven't been around this board due to work apparently, so let me fill you in: since the start of the Purdue game, you'd think they suddenly renamed the university The Heinrich Himmler College of National Socialism. That's been that sorta mood around here this week, weird anger at every corner, people contradicting themselves in confusion, fans united in criticism but unknowingly aimed in opposite directions (e.g. "the defense needs to be simpler, too much confusion!" "diaco needs to mix it up! get aggressive and throw something at 'em we haven't seen! it's too predictable!". It's been uneasy to say the least.

IT'S A GAME PEOPLE. LIGHTEN UP! Notre Dame could very will be 2-5 four weeks from now, so can we collectively check manhood now and make sure it's there?

great post Buster. reps.

I think our defense will be fine. This game is going to come down on our O. MSU will want to bring run and pass blitzes. The key is going to be if their corners can handle our receivers one on one. If they have trouble we'll be okay. Of course MSU will have their usual trick play.

It's not hard. You can usually get them around face value at all but the biggest games, which this one isn't. So don't pay $125 online. I guess you'll have some people coming down from Michigan, which will increase demand compared to, say, the BYU game. But they should be gettable. Usually lots of people sell out in front of the JACC (on the parking lot side) on Saturdays before the game.

This is going to come down to two things. (and I'm really sorry if this has been said ad nauseam)

1. Can Diaco stop calling blitzes that our guys can't (or won't) check out of? I'm sick of seeing us play a base 3-4, then calling a sell out corner/strong side blitz, having the QB easily check out of it, then getting 10-30 yards. It makes me crazy. If I, a complete dope as far as football schematics go can see it, then everyone else can see it too.

2. Who wants it more? ND v MSU has come down to pure sweat and blood on more of these games than not. We need our big boys to have an outstanding game on the line.
This doesn't mean stats, it means understanding contain and controlling the edges of both sides of the line.

Do those two things, and we win big. Forget them, like we have each of our games up till now, and we lose.

Easy.

Buster, your posts have been exceptional over the last 6 months. I don't get on here as much to contribute my thoughts of often as I used to but I still try to read everyday what the news is on here.
I would have to say I fall under the former. I am not questioning which team I will root for, I am questioning how seriously I take wins and losses and recruiting etc. I will always support ND and watch the games, I just felt I needed to ease up a bit is all. I guess the worst part of all of this for me is, I may have picked the wrong season to quit smoking lol. Last weekend was tough for me not to but I am up to two weeks cigarette free! Again, great post! You have a great outlook on the situation.

I have questions for you Yankee. It isn't like you are not busy enough. With the job, school, and the new responsibilities, and all! I remember a couple year period where I didn't see much of any football. Good luck and drop me a line some time! Congrats on quitting. That sure is best for the shavers!

Kind of helps that only a handful of teams have 3 games against FBS opposition. There are probably more teams that have played 3 FCS schools than teams that have played 3 FBS schools at this point.

Other than Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio State it's hard to find one.
