The bigger issue, IMO, is how disciplined the safeties play. Tech will make us pay if our safeties start moving forward before their QB crosses the line of scrimmage. If they are disciplined enough to wait for the QB and then come up in run support, Tech will have a tough time hurting us with their pass game. If Shumate or Redfield start head hunting the pitch, they're going to light us up over the top.

Stop the dive
Play disciplined and read your keys
Force turnovers...strip and score

Watching the Tulane game replay, I noticed that Thomas does a scary good job of disguising the dive and/or pitch and then throws it. He had me fooled a couple of times just watching on tv. I couldn't blame the DBs if they get caught doing the same a couple of times. But I agree, if you can limit that sort of thing, your chances of defensive success increase. And yes... stop the dive. That fricking fullback is a hoss for them.

bottom line is we have to win 1st down. anything 3rd and 3 or less is a win for GT.

we'll need to put them in a lot of 2 and 8's to control the game.....much easier said than done.

A big resounding yes to the bolded. PJ is not afraid to go for it on fourth down as well.

I feel that when playing Navy we have to come away with some type of points every singe offensive drive. At absolute worst case we have long drives. I feel the same way going into this game. Its a must to score a boat load of points. IMO

"And that's it from South Bend were the final score today, Notre Dame 5, Georgia Tech 3."

I'm so confused by all of that.

Wooly is going to hit the floor and start convulsing when i say this...

rtrn2glory is right. Get those fools out of here.

Maybe you two might want to thank them before kicking them out the door, as you wouldn't even be able to watch Notre Dame football without them.

It's simply amazing to me that we have fans of this university that see zero value in the character the school represents. Saying we should drop a branch of the military, one that saved the entire school, simply because you don't like their blocking scheme. I'm not mad at either or you, just disappointed that we have fans that are so quickly able to throw away tradition and respect. Two pinnacles of what the university is supposed to represent.

Just like Navy, the first task needs to be shutting down the FB. Force the running plays to the outside so Jaylon, JO, and company can clean up

I haven't seen either broadcast. Is it due to the injuries on Irish offense or based on the GT offense?

Yes and yes, combination of both.

Not many of the talking heads are giving ND much of a chance on Saturday. I like it...

I didn't see the broadcast, but saw the picks online. At least Feldman, Mandel, Klatt, and Travis all have picked against us.

Well look at it this way for a minute...Navy gives ZERO benefit to play on the national SOS scene but is considered a negative by most people. We get nothing but jokes by the national media for playing them. We get nothing but injuries playing them. And, lately we arent exactly demolishing them when we do play. I promise you OSU wont schedule them again after their last game together. Way too much to lose and NOTHING to gain. Do you think for a moment that anyone not ND or Navy sits there and appreciates ND giving them charity every year as payback for what happened in WW2? I have a very good friend that went to the Naval academy and even the Navy guys dont like ND. I mean, really, really aggressive to win at all costs vs ND. So if you are telling me that all the negatives do not outweigh the ONE positive for playing then Im gonna guess you get taken to the cleaners a lot by salesmen.

Welcome to 2015. Tradition and honor on the large scale in America is for the most part, dead if you havent figured that out lately. You either win big, which all the ND fan base demands, or you have the honor, academics and unyielding requirements. You can have it one way or the other but not both.

We would catch shit to no end if we stop scheduling Navy. If the series is ever going to end, it's probably going to have to be the Midshipmen that end it.

I'm all for considering removing Navy from the schedule. It wouldn't be the death of their program by any means. Loyalty has its limits and I don't think the current/future ADs need to be tied to a promise made over 50 years ago. Whoever promised that was speaking on behalf of every future AD in the ND's history, which I think is going too far.

Extremely tough to plan for and takes away from focusing on traditional offensive team's game plan, and zero credit for beating Navy when the CFB people are holding your resume at the end of the year. Don't be the violinists on the Titanic!

We absolutely should not remove Navy from the schedule. But we should play them either Week 1 or before a Bye Week

If tradition and honor are dead in your opinion, what exactly do you find appealing about the Notre Dame brand? This is so out of touch it's appalling.

Those things might not matter to you, but they matter to a great deal of people involved with Notre Dame. Especially those allegiances that stretch farther than Saturdays on the football field.

Honestly. Its one of those things that what I want and the 'right' thing aren't the same thing.

I deal with the public all day, I want to punch 85% of them in the face, but I don't. Its not the right thing to do. but oh boy do I bitch about it though hahaha

I know this is the Ga Tech thread, and I don't mean to be pedantic, but maybe the younger guys just aren't aware of the history between the Irish and Navy. Maybe we need to cut block a few of their guys, if that's an issue, but we can't and shouldn't drop them.

The Intriguing History of Why Notre Dame Plays Navy Every Season - RantSports
I know it's not the point you're making, but the cut block argument is crap, too. WE cut block. Alabama cut blocks. Oregon cut blocks. It's not some super rare tactic only employed by the service academies.
