MSU doesn't have the passing game to abuse our secondary IMO... They will want to pound the rock, but I think Jones plays his best game since FSU

Serious question, do you expect Texas to have a better running attack based on their OL and RB personal than MSU? I assume MSU has a better rushing attack since their OL is expected to be better than Texas'.

No, I look at their banged up O Line and no threat Wr's and think we can get pressure on their QB and control the line of scrimmage

I do. Also, the scheme. Texas' offensive scheme put so much pressure on our DBs that it really put our front 7 in a disadvantage as well because we asked them to play out-of-whack.

Look, I can see how we lose MSU, and it's that we make mistakes and our young guys give up to many big plays. There is no way -- absolutely none -- that one can look at MSU group-by-group and think they match up with Notre Dame. You couldn't say that about Texas. I took a long look at Texas before that game was played and though "wow, we're probably screwed" mainly because they had such speed on the outside + insiders said their QB could sling it + talented backs + playmakers on D to get enough stops.

If Hunter plays for ND this weekend...

DBs-MSU
LB-ND
DL-ND
OL-ND
RB-ND
Receivers-ND
QB-ND

If we come out with the right scheme and the young DBs don't make mistakes we should boat race these low talent pretenders. Then again, Ohio State should've beat the living hell out of them last year and found a way to lose that game soooooo.....

Aren't their LBs expected to be one of the best groups in the nation?

Im very on board with this. I feel very very confident that we can put up a lot of points on MSU. I really like our OFFENSE. I have tons of confidence in Kizer primarily because his poise and decision making. Our D is what I'm worried about. If our D can build on an improved performance against Nevada and we can not give up big plays and finally get some pressure on the QB, we have a good chance at beating MSU at home. We need to tackle well and we need a solid effort from our defensive line. Texas and Nevada both got rid of the ball in passing situations very quickly but MSU gives more time for plays to develop so we should see more pressure on Saturday.
Go Irish!

Forecast is for warm and humid with rain/T-showers in the morning and early afternoon, clearing for the evening. If it stays raining I think it will only help MSU like it did against OSU last year.

With the new south end building up and more enclosure on the east and west buildings, I felt that the noise was much more contained last week than last year . . . which was better than prior years. While the crowd wasn't that hype for UNR, like we should be for MSU; I'm judging this off of the sound of the band. I heard the band loudly on the east side even when they faced west - which has never happened before. Should be fun!

LJ Scott scares me after that Texas game. He's a big back and our tackling is suspect. Expect him to have a pretty big game.

If we're in our 4-3 base, then we'll be fine.

I'd normally agree, but Texas had no issue pushing around our DLine in one-on-one battles

Not to mention, even when we got to the back, we were horrific in tackling.

I hope you're right...but based on what I"ve seen so far, I'm skeptical.

We were in 3-3-5 against Texas. We were at a disadvantage from the get go and that is not the defense you want to be in against a big back. Look at the Nevada game, we were in our base 4-3 and gave up just 99 yards on 30 carries (3.3 per rush). Stop the run and make that new QB beat you; besides Donnie Corley, I have never heard of anyone that caught a ball against Furman. I like our chances with our front seven being able to stop the run.

I"d argue that using the Nevada game isn't a totally "like to like" comparison.

MSU is much better than Nevada, on paper and on the field. So we're likely to encounter some better talent. But I don't disagree that it will help some.

And that still doesn't address the tackling issue. Which, no matter who you play, is a problem. Especially with big backs that wear you down as the game goes on.

For those looking for tix, the ND ticket office just released a small group at face value: https://twitter.com/ndtix/status/775458742338977792

Edit: Really wanted to pull the trigger on these, but talked myself out of it because responsibility. I have a feeling I will regret the decision come Saturday night...

I think that has to do with the fact that Beuchele was abusing our secondary, and we had to adjust to prevent it. That opened up the front for their big backs. Texas is going to be very tricky to defend this season, because they have that kind of dynamic. You can go in a traditional 4-3, but if your secondary isn't good enough to defend their tall and fast receivers, then it won't work, and you can't adjust fronts mid-drive because they're going hurry up.

Against MSU, they don't seem to possess the same kind of passing threat. That will allow ND to commit more to the LOS and try to shut down the run. If LJ Scott can't get going, MSU is going to struggle.

I'm going to have an extra ticket at face value if anyone is looking for a ticket. My buddy backed out so I'm pretty sure I'm flying solo to the game. Unsure what section or row, my guy gives me the tickets on gameday. DM me if interested. You'll be sitting next to me, as unfortunate as that sounds.

Does anyone need tickets to the game? I have become aware of several ND clubs that need to move their tickets (the price increase has been murder). PM me. Someone just wrote me with a request to move up to 12 in a block. I believe these are going at FV to alumni, probably a modest upcharge to non-alums. Not certain.

I'm curious if demand for tickets has dwindled as of late. I've bought tickets through the ticket office a number of times, and the last few years a representative has contacted me wishing to sell me season tickets or something. I assume I'd need to provide the mandatory donation, so I haven't bothered to return his calls, but this dude has called me several times this season already. Maybe they should reconsider the pricing strategy they've employed lately.

Yeah I know pricing has been a big part of it. They've literally doubled the price in just a few years. ND is a family school and it's hard to take a family at $150/game. Of course, you could argue that as a night game this isn't suited for that anyway, but young alumni can't really afford that either. It's just really dumb.

They should have sharp discounts for young alumni and alumni clubs (who use this as a key fundraiser and who underpin the whole 'best alumni association in the world' thing). They should also allow young alumni sections near the student sections. $150/game basically says, "Don't come home if you've chosen to do graduate/medical/law school." Then by the time you finish those programs, an annual game isn't a habit. That's how you kill a home sellout streak and alternate your (eventually) wealthiest alumni.

Stupid, stupid, stupid

I would be interested in any lower bowl tickets at face value in 3, 4, 5, or 7 person blocks. (I am an alum)

I may be interested. Depends if I can get 3 together.

I don't have a problem with it if it reduces the opposing team taking over the stadium and scalpers holding down all the mid field season tickets. Lunacy is charging the same for upper endzone seats as you do for lower bowl sidelines. I would pay $150 for pretty much any game to be between the 20s, more than that for good ones. Paying $150 for upper corners to Miami is just this side of insulting. As it stands now, I'm probably taking my 12 year old to Miami while the wife roams campus or heads back to the hotel unless I stumble on some super cheap tickets. Even at face I'm not paying $450 for the wife to sit apart from me and tend to two of our children, that money is better spent at the bookstore. Kind of sucks because my wife is a SMC chick and hasn't been to a game forever. Now if the University was smart they would come up with a "Kids Club" to babysit during the games. I'd spend $50/head to dump my 9 and 4 year old off for five hours while the rest of us hit the game.

Then only a handful of crappy games even give you the option of having more than 2 together. Like you say - bring the family but good luck sitting together without being connected to a season ticket holder, big donor or scalper.

What our club did with their (pitiful) NC State allotment was a bit frustrating too. "Lottery" winners got to commit over $400 for a pair - no clue where they are located but suspect nose bleeders. $85 face value marked up that much - but they throw in tailgate, pep rally stuff that can't attend. So I end up paying double the actual market value of the tickets and they act like they are doing me a favor. Like you say - not a great way to build community.

Bull. Young alumni don't have mortgages or children. They can afford it. I'm a member of an alumni giving society and the cost of the ticket is a minuscule part of the cost of attending a Notre Dame game. The cost of actually getting to and staying in South Bend for a game weekend is much more cost-prohibitive.

Also, it's not $150 per game. It's $150 for THIS game, a game that is nowhere near in jeopardy of not being sold out. If you're a bargain hunter, go to the $75 game.
