I think those two sentences back-to-back are kind of contradictory. It's quite possible that DaVaris and Russell come back and they ARE the best players at their positions, especially considering the fact that there are 5 DBs and three WRs on the field for almost every play.

I didn't hear ISD's Power Hour and didn't need to, to understand the obvious. Kelly said it quite poignantly in his last P.C. "I'll have to think how to reintegrate them."

The secret is to work less as individuals and more as team. As a coach, I play not my eleven best but my best eleven.

Russell is the best CB but probably isn't the best eleven at this point. BVG's defense is working together complementing each other. We opened the season with cumminication issues in the secondary. They worked through that.

Daniels is probably the most talented WR but he he played inconsistent in the past. On the LOS will he be reading the defense in sync with Golson or will he be focused on his next tweet? Recall Shark as a Senior. After a very successful Junior campaign he struggled his first few games of his season season after playing minor league baseball and missing summer workouts. For the first couple of games he broke left while Quinn threw right. He went long while Quinn threw short. Weis had them spend time working together to get them back to the level they were in sync.

I took him to mean that if they come back, they won't walk into the first practice with their starting jobs back automatically. They'll have to prove it.

That's exactly what I meant. Not that they won't get them back, but as BK mentioned in his PC, they have been away for six weeks. They will have to be phased in gradually. I would assume that depends on each individual and who is at their position now.

Yeah, I would not be stunned to see KVR, DVD and Ishaq all come back as immediate starters. I would also not be stunned to see Kelly work them in gradually. Even Kelly doesn't know how that will go. As of Kelly's Sunday teleconference, he had not even thought about how to "reintegrate" those players and he said he would spend some time thinking about it on Sunday afternoon.

I took that as a good sign, btw. Kelly seemed to think that he needs to have a plan for reintegrating the suspended players, which means he thinks it is realistically possible to get them back.

On the other hand, maybe it's a bad sign that he hadn't bothered to think about it yet ...

Six weeks away and start immediately? I'll be willing to make a wager that they don't.

I'm not even sure if Russell is the best CB at this point. Luke has been playing way better than anticipated and better than I had even thought Russell would play. I'm not sure Luke or Riggs would get benched for Russell.

You won't find many takers. See my earlier post on this:

To follow up on this ...

Kelly said today during his presser that he did think about this a bit on Sunday after the teleconference and basically there is no way anybody can come in after a 6-week layoff and play as an every-down starter. The 5 guys, if any of them are able to rejoin the team, will have to be gradually reintegrated.

As for the good sign/bad sign stuff, after hearing Kelly discuss the matter today, I really don't think he has any idea whether he will get any or all of these guys back. Or if he does, he hasn't given it away yet.

I think if they all get cleared (which I doubt)...

Davaris should be rushed back to service.

Russell should be playing mop up for a month or so.

Ishaq should be red-shirted.

I agree with this. Ishaq needs to sit out and come back ready to go next year and help his NFL stock. Russell and Daniels can come back next year anyway so let's go if they are able.

We could have used his size as a possession receiver last Saturday. I kept thinking about it. Then Robinson sort of stepped into that role late, but it would have been nice to have a vet the whole game out there like DD.

DD could make a relatively seamless transition IMO and would add a huge upgrade on offense. The rest aren't as desperately needed, but certainly will be seeing the season isn't half way over yet.

Russell would play for Riggs. Riggs would move to nickel. Farley would be the odd man out.

Why should Russell play mop-up? He was our #1 CB coming out of camp and it wasn't even close according to most prognosticators.

You think missing a few weeks of football has made him that bad? I'd be shocked if he hadn't been doing some form of football work while out.

He'll be bruised/sore after his first couple game but we need him to play at UNC and log major minutes, ie - half the snaps. Even if they have to cycle Luke, Riggs and Russell (with a little Butler thrown in).

Ishaq, I don't know enough about him right now to make that call. Were the coaches really high on him? Do they believe he can still contribute significant snaps?

I agree about Daniels.

It's been longer than a few weeks. I think we're heading into the seventh week. Kelly mentioned they were working out with Longo but there is nothing you can do to simulate a game or full pad practice. There will be an adjustment period, just not sure how long it'll take.

True. Farley would no longer be nickel. However I was still deluding myself that JO would be starting at Sam instead of the 4-2-5. Damn, a trio of Luke, Riggs and Russell is pretty awesome.
