And I don't want to start a debate again, but it's funny that 24 hours ago those of us that thought that this is taking way too damn long 'didn't get it', but now that BK's showing frustration, it's accepted that it's taking too long.

This has been a clusterfuck from the word go from this administration. If they are not cleared and lose Saturday and then reinstated in a week or so, that would be an absolute travesty. What is the over/under for how many days once the season ends for BK to bolt for another job?

Whatever his title actually is, he has a position with the team under the oversight of the ncaa. He's an official staff member. Paul Longo can't loan kids money, give them rides, or contact recruits during dead periods.

But he CAN work with the players in the off-season, when coaches can't. The strength and conditioning coach is NOT the same as a regular coach in the NCAA's eyes. They're not a "countable coach."

For example:

During 8 designated weeks of voluntary summer conditioning activities, strength coaches may conduct strength and conditioning workouts for student-athletes. No countable coaches may be present and strength coaches may not report back to countable coaches. In addition, student-athletes may work out at their discretion outside the 8 hours per week. As someone pointed out yesterday, maybe it was BGIF or Whiskey, there's been a long public record of Administration-Football tension at ND. It was also pointed out that Fr Jenkins does not really seem to share the hostility of many of his predecessors, and in fact has been quite supportive.

But there are still institutional elements that make ND a tough place to coach, and Kelly knew it coming in. As recently as 198whatever, Holtz had to fuss to get Tony Rice in over Admissions early objections. Urban Meyer was talked out of coaching at ND (when he was at UT), so the story goes, by his father, who advised him that it was too hard to win at ND because of standards.

I know this is different because of the type of issue at the bottom of it. But Kelly didn't fall off the turnip truck last night. He knew and knows what he's dealing with. Probably doesn't like it, thinks he can influence it positively over time (see "turf field"), and wants to scream sometimes, but I don't think he says, "Shit, I'm out." Not because of this.

Without having to slog through, I was wondering what BK's tone was in terms of the "I was told it would be quick. That was Monday, it's now Thursday."

Was it pissy? Matter-of-fact? Depressed? Business-as-usual? Get-me-out-of-here?

I mentioned this earlier. If they cleared some but no decision on the others it would cause all kinds of problems, rumors, speculation, etc.. It could also be a big distraction to the team because those cleared would be getting hammered with questions about the others.

He actually said he was told they would act quickly LAST THURSDAY, so it has been a week now.

The impression he gave was that he would know in time for Michigan week.
