Second, perhaps "almost the exact same scenario" wasn't an accurate description; I agree that the legalities here will be significantly different due to the tutor's status as an ND employee, and the alleged academic fraud.
I'm just struck by the similarity of the narratives. 21 years ago, ND gets hit with its first and only major NCAA infraction when a groupie exchanged gifts and money for sex with ND players. Today, ND may be dealing with its 2nd major infraction because a different groupie exchanged papers for sex with ND players.
I understood your groupie similarity, my point is that, IF TRUE, this is much more serious. Unlike Dunbar, it's a university employee and doesn't need the tenuous QB Club mailing list "paper trail" for linkage. Unlike Chappell there's more than one participant.
By far this is not UNC, OSU, USC, Miami type actions but WE ARE ND. We don't do it like everybody else.
As the old Hebrew National hot dog commercials used to say, "WE ANSWER TO A HIGHER AUTHORITY".
The ND student athlete tutoring program has been widely recognized for it's success in academic circles. ND and the ND family are proud each year when the NCAA and FEDs post their lists of Graduation Success Rates. Where will the credibility be IF THE RUMORS have substance?
