Per Irish247, we are looking at another transfer into the program. Out of respect for the player and family they won't go into too many details at this time but it is at a position of need. They will periodically be giving info as they are able to but not much more than that right now. Sources feel good that if he can academically qualify that ND would be the destination. Very similar to the Riggs transfer, he would graduate this spring and be available for summer camp.

Most Likely:

-Brennan Scarlett DE, Cal (per 247 very interested)
-Avery Sebastian S, Cal (per 247, ND has the edge)

Names that have expressed interest:

-Wayne Lyons CB/S, Stanford (Per 247 has expressed interest but not sure how serious)
-Kelsey Young RB, Stanford (Per 247, same as above)

Other names:

- Reymound Wright
- Valdez Showers (FL)
- Savon Huggins
- Christian French
- Joel Hale
- Rodney Coe
- Justice Hayes
- Aaron Green

No info, but my guess is a safety.

I'm curious if this is a graduate school deal like Cody Riggs, or an undergrad transfer like Carlisle.

That's great news! Any thoughts on when we will find out more information on this?

They said it seems to be moving quickly and that's about it. It's a graduate student like Riggs. They specifically mention he'll graduate this spring and be available this summer. A lot of speculation is a S as depth is so thin.

I personally hope it's a bad ass lb or interior dl.

I think Shummate and Redfield will keep it together this year.

The defense has numbers at LB and DL. Not so with safety. Shumate and Redfield might hold it together, but if one goes down, you're looking at putting Farley deep with true freshmen stepping in behind that.

Good point. I thought baratti was coming back but he must be done for good.

They were telling recruits he's done for good so I have to imagine thats pretty set in stone. Keep in mind, at the time we brought in Riggs we had KVR and Luke as expected starters. Very similar to Redfield and Shumate. Good thing we brought in Riggs as KVR never played.

so you're saying we should expect Shumate to be investigated for academic fraud come August? :)

That is absolutely fantastic news. I really want 1a) Safety that is good in coverage or 1b) 3 down Dlineman

Going to be disappointed if it's a Punter again haha

If it's a punter I'm heading north to kick clashs dog. Will Loy tell us what position or at least side of the ball? And I'd he's ripped?

No they haven't specified anything just that the process has started. I really don't think it'd be a punter as we have Newsome expected for those duties.

Was making a joke about Wulfeck haha. I'd expect Safety or DE like others have posted.

One thing you can say good about Loy is he seems very loyal to these young men.

"Position of need" has got to be S or RB, with the former being more likely than the latter. There aren't many programs graduating football players who are: (1) talented enough to impact our depth chart; and (2) qualified for graduate school-- USC, UF, Duke, Stanford, etc. If we took to time to check out those rosters, we could probably come up with a short list of likely candidates.

My first thought was Wayne Lyons but I don't know why he would be transferring since he has been starting for Stanford.

What about someone from UF again- with a coaching change, players may be looking to leave, may have communicated with riggs about how well the year went, etc.

edit: Brian Poole? lol

He was my first thought as well, but I do not believe he has any eligibility left.

He played in the first 3 games his freshmen year then broke his foot and missed the rest of the season. He probably could get a medical redshirt for that year.

This might be a dumb question, but we'd be looking for RS JR's, right?

4th year guys with a 5th year available?
