I'm at a cross roads. I need some advice here. So we lost, but it was a BS call IMO, so do I still need to shave the serial-killer-undefeated-football beard?
I was surprised that BK didn't roll Golson out, and put the pressure of him running on the defense. If EG gets outside of the tackles, then the DBs have to choose whether to come up and guard against him running, or stay back and cover their zone. Roll him out and give him a run/pass option. If he fumbles, who cares? It's the last play of the game. I also did not understand why they burned the last timeout after an incomplete pass.
If he were trying to get open, and not to block the defender, stopping in his tracks would be better than continuing the contact, don't you think?
What no one is acknowledging here, either, is that this was not the last play of the game. ND still had one more chance......... execute that better, and the tick tack call means nothing.
I think Everett was pretty limited after he came back from the lockerroom. Something to monitor going forward. But I don't think he was capable of running around a lot on that last play.

I'll be honest with you, when they had the ball at the 9 with about 25ish seconds to go, I would've attempted a run with TF. The way he was running, I'm not sure they would have expected that and being that they are so close to the end zone, if he does get stopped, you can hurry up efficiently.
Wrong player. Justifiable call.
Prosise, #20, was jammed at the LOS and pushed, fought his man into the endzone. I think one can weakly argue he was blocking but he was jammed and remained entangled with that defender. IF Prosise WAS blocking he did it with finesse.
So where's the foul?
Tell me about Fuller, #7, on this play.
Watch Fuller and the defender become "entangled", be a jam or a block, as he and Prosise together wall off the third defender who is supposed to covering Robinson as well as the two guys covering them.
Continue to watch him as Fuller engages his man AND TURNS HIS HEAD TO WATCH THE PLAY. Sorry but Fuller played his hand poorly. "Receivers" trying to get open, fight to get free and look for the ball. I see no attempt to disengage to get free TO BE A POTENTIAL RECEIVER but worse I see a blocker looking for his ball carrier NOT for the ball. Fuller's head turn sells that his function was blocking.
It was a well designed play executed well by QB and WR. Unfortunately one of the actors in the play overplayed his part, tipping off the ref who has a clear line of sight to him and sees the blocker turning his eyes toward the actual receiver (in line with the ref, eyeball to eyeball) and NOT looking toward the QB to find the ball which is what a receiver would do.
If the ref called the foul on 20 he had the wrong number but right foul. Refs calling a false start or a hold on the wrong OL or RB doesn't overturn a flag on technical grounds.

He ran the ball a few plays before that.
Haven't you claimed an exclusive right to start these Post Game Observations® threads? I recall you getting rather bent out of shape when others tried to start their own. So no, kmoose, we can't really avoid your hectoring bullsh!t entirely.
Self-righteousness is a bad look.
#20 GETS BEAR HUGGED AND # 7 TAKES A STEP OFF THE LOS AND MAKES A CUT INSIDE WHICH MAKES CONTACT WITH THE DEFENDER!!! IT LOOKS LIKE A PRETTY NORMAL FUKIN FOOTBALL PLAY!!!
POINT OF ORDER, Mr. Moderator!
I was the one that noted that kmoose had been posting the Post Game Observations for years after a "shoot from the hip" poster jumped the gun to post his whining BS and rant and tried to call it Observations. They weren't Observations, they were pure rant.
kmoose has done an excellent job over the years of balanced commenting in this thread. He provides critique as opposed to trashing players to support his view or favorite player. He has earned this thread through years of solid work. There are times that kmoose and I have disagreed in how we saw a play called or executed but I always found his responses came from a football prospective and not some emotional jerk running his mouth.
Yes,he can get strident with individual posters as can you and I and the people he engaged who largely were posting in this thread from a "we wuz robbed prospective" not from rewatching the WHOLE play objectively.
I agree, "Self-righteousness is a bad look" particularly when it comes from a moderator who should be moderating.

I'm curious what the "it was the right call" people would say about what a receiver can do in that situation. If they were supposed to clear out, what can they do if the defenders step in front of them and refuse to cede ground? Just lay down? It seems way too easy to say the rule is that a defender can just step in front of the receiver and it's an automatic 15 yarder against the offense.

Don't engage. If the CBs engaged you then it's holding on them. I see Prosise engaged and Fuller engaged. The Prosise one I can see being a no call but Fuller, whether or not you think the CB is trying to cut off the slant, blocks him. I'm not a ref but I would be pissed if the shoe were on the other foot and the flag wasn't thrown.
Have you ever played a down of football in your life?
Yeah. This. I just rewatched it 5 times and I do not see a penalty. We. Got. Hosed.
Yes, not that it matters. I was a DI recruit.
