Schmidt played good in the nickel for the most part in his absence. Also Fox and Calabrese were not horrible in coverage in the second half. Fox made some plays with a fumble recovery and an interception. Hopefully Schmidt steps up to add some depth.

Carlo and Fox played much better than Grace tonight.

We still play Stanford this year. We have no chance of making a BCS Bowl.

Stanford played Arizona State pretty similar... difference was that down 11 near the end of the game they didn't give up a garbage TD and instead got ball back and kicked a field goal. They also jumped on them harder at the start.

Stanford also struggled with Army. They're very good, but if our defense keeps improving we'll definitely have a chance. Their offense plays right into what we stop well. I doubt we make a BCS game, but if we beat USC and win 9 games that's a good season in my book.

ASU uses their running backs in a similar way to how the Saints use Darren Sproles. They don't get a lot of "rushes" but they catch a lot of short passes that develop how a running play would. So while we will almost certainly have more rushing yards, their running backs will likely account for more total yards than ours will.
Hmm...don't mean to short stroke on a comment a few days ago, but the statistics prove to be true once again. If Kelly outrushes his opponent he wins! That is pretty much the consistent theme in his tenure, and will continue to be true in the future. Told ya statistics don't lie. All in fun my friend.

Play the way we play... Down to our opponent.. we'll be fine

I like the fact that we are playing Stanford at the end of the season. We should be a much better football team by then. We have the talent to compete with them or even beat them, but we make too many costly basic mistakes right now.

All focus on SC though. Can't look past anybody this year, especially with the kind of importance for recruiting that SC game has. Shouldn't need any reason to beat SC anyways...

All I want is for the Stanford game to matter - i.e. we're both playing for a BCS bowl shot. Then, with our defense, we'll certainly have a shot. That's all you can ask for.
But first, get healthy and go beat USC.

Speaking of Stanford, don't look now but Washington's giving them a handful.

Didn't see game live, watching it on DVR now. I know how it ends and at this point in the 3rd, it's14-13 but I've got to say we do not have a good QB. It's painful. Rees is flat awful. He should've had a pick returned for 6 in the first half, he hung receivers out to dry and has missed some by a mile (Chris Brown) when they were wide open. How they won this game is beyond me. I really look forward to the day the Irish has an athletic QB with a D1 arm.

Would a poster be kind enough to give me a summary. Hate to miss an ND game for any reason but when I got offered a ticket to Northwestern vs OSU I couldn't refure.

I read the game summary but I feel posters may be able to give better insight from an ND perspective.

Yeah I was thankfully very wrong about how this game would go. Defense showed up in a big way.

I hate 2013.

I'm giving Tommy 1 more drive and then I'm giving up on this crap.

Yep and the rout is on

We suck. But this beer is ICCCCCEEE COOOOOLLLDD

Game going from bad to worse. Thank goodness we signed all of those ILBs the last couple years... oh wait... We don't have anyone in the pipeline at all.

Might as well just call it a season.

Yeah, it is. Dumbass gameplan since Week 1 and we've made minimal changes if that.

Mediocre talent, mediocre coaching = mediocre team.

Going back and reading everyone's comments is so funny. Lol

Once again everyone... USE THE CHATROOM!!!

It stops you from looking like an idiot and gives trolls less to point and laugh at.

It's funny because the "giving Tommy one more drive" was before we scored our first TD. I'd say that was prophetic.

This. And it allows you to have a discussion with one or more people without clogging a thread. Plus most of what I say is irrelevant and in the chat it doesn't become permanent script

On paper we should get destroyed... something like 45-28.

But this might be one of those games where you throw logic out the window. If we use at least 50% Hendrix I'll take us winning 35-33.

I was pretty darn close... 37-34 instead of 35-33... Well, except for the Hendrix part LOL

That was a hell of a call. I didn't see us scoring that many, glad to see I was mistaken. But I think the 1 for 2 came from your later message, when you did also say "might as well call it a season" LOL.

after some time to recover i feel really good about winning last night as ugly and stressful as it was. A LOT of things to clean up physically and mentally and glad we have a bye week to get healthy and look for ILB help

thoughts still with Grace...broken tibia is very painful...older brother broke his femur and tibia two weeks ago and it's usually a long recovery...yet again another great example of why you choose ND for the school and ppl not football, but if anyone knew that before last night it was Jarret Grace

I will say I liked seeing us play on that type of field. Sure would be nice to get it in south bend.
