So I was with a bunch of Clemson fans today and they were giving me a hard time about the comments our new QB made. Something about "it doesn't matter where we play Clemson, it could be on the moon, we will beat them no matter where it is."

I've looked all over and haven't seen anything like this from MZ. Has anyone?

I am thinking they are fabricating bulletin board material.

I have not heard that anywhere and I doubt it is true

I actually think Malik did say this. The fact that he says it is going to mean more than it on Clemson's bulletin board, though. Malik is the man.

Koon - What?

Sorry - I was saying if Malik has that mindset, he's so locked in and that will be so contagious, that it'll trump Clemson being 'fired up' about his confidence.

Got ya. I just couldn't figure that sentence out.

I agree, I am OK with his confidence, I just hadn't seen the comment.

If I were a Clemson fan I'd be freaking out about this off season. This game keeps getting more winnable by the month.

IF Reader and the rest of the Clemson OLine took the first game off, the Tigers would still romp.

Agree. But part of me likes his brash nature. I'd love nothing more than to see him walk the talk and beat these guys on the road.

If we are undefeated after Clemson, we have to be knocking on the top 6. Only Bama, USC, Stanford, and TN have similar top 25 matchups in the first 5 weeks.

Just read the article... I don't mind what he said.. The "Beat them on the moon" sounds like he is putting them down, but in reality he is saying it doesn't matter who we play and where we play them, i'll take my guys and I believe we will win...

I don't see it as he put down Clemson. He has confidence at a position where it is greatly needed. Players will follow his lead. Raise your koolaide glasses gentlemen.

yep, IMO it was pretty tame. Clemson will interpret it the way the want though....

Of course they will. Imagine Cody Kessler saying that it doesn't matter where they play Notre Dame, that USC will beat us everywhere. We'd want our boys to use that as fuel for the fire.

I'd rather Malik not say anything until he has a bit more experience under his belt. There's nothing wrong with having confidence, but there's also not always a need to speak when your actions can do the talking for you.

Yeah, I'm in this camp. Zaire is my QB, but I'd feel better if he was saying this in the locker room and not giving out gems like this every time a reporter went fishing for quotes

I have no problem with Malik saying shit like this, so long as he's ready to put his money where his mouth is or eat crow. Just one nitpick issue: why is he looking past Texas?

It's all part of the strategy. Talk some trash, come in undefeated, have the game set for prime time, then sit back and watch Clemson do what they do best - sh!t themselves in big time games.

Don't give a team any more motivation that they should already have. Clemson should have plenty of it coming in to the game. Why give them something else? I like MZ's confidence, but keep that kind of talk in the locker room and practice field.

I'm not making any prediction about our game against Clemson. It's a tough road environment, ND has had many puzzling losses in recent years, and anything can happen in the course of a single game. That said I think Clemson is primed to take a big step back this year, will not be a top 25 team, and right now is one of the more overrated teams on our schedule.

A reporter specifically asked him about playing at Death Valley against Clemson and how the atmosphere would be intense and how he felt about it and blah blah blah but that was Malik's response to said questions.

Doesn't matter. He shouldn't be looking past the next game. No player ever should. Simple solution to this is tell the reporter to ask him on September 27th.

the clemson DT DJ Reader is stepping away from football for "a period of time" due to personal issues.
