I’m heading up to Ann Arbor for the game. Anyone ever been? Last few games I have attended away from Notre Dame Stadium have been at Ohio State. I imagine most fan bases are much more pleasant.

This will be a clash of BKs record after a BYE vs BKs record vs ranked teams on the road.

Not Michigan's. When I was in school I heard absolute horror stories from people that went to away games. Their fans are trash. One Notre Dame student got sucker punched and had to have reconstructive surgery on his face. A girl I knew had full beer bottles thrown at her.

I don't doubt this for one second but he asked in context of comparing them to tOSU fans... lol Some of us were discussing this dynamic last week. I can't think of a rivalry represented by two more nut bag, loss of perspective, fan bases...

How so? They're already out of the CFP picture and this game has no bearing on thier run for the B10 championship. We still have CFP aspirations, NY6 at a MINIMUM. So yes, Michigan is home, but how on Earth do they need this game more than us?

Fair point. I was thinking of the bigger picture, not just this season. If Michigan loses two of three vs ND, Sparty and OSU, they'll hit depths of despair they didn't think were possible with their savior Harbaugh. It's crazy to think about, but a loss at home to ND, followed by an Ohio State beat down may be enough to pull the plug on Harbaugh. If they somehow shit themselves against Sparty...oh boy.

If ND loses, it guarantees they aren't making the playoffs which is a long shot anyway. A two loss ND is far from eliminated from a NY6 game. Four of the six teams in the NY6 games last year had at least two losses - 2 loss Georgia, 3 loss Washington, 3 loss LSU, 4 loss Texas.

In support of Lax's post, the one and only away game I attended as an undergrad was at the Big House in 2003. We got crushed 38-0. Multiple Michigan fans tried to pour beer on me and my roommates as we were leaving the stands (one of which soaked me pretty good), and someone threw a beer bottle which hit me in the back of the head as we walked back to the bus. Didn't end up requiring any stitches, but I still have the scar.

That's how they behave after a resounding victory. God help you if you're trying to exit that stadium after a Michigan loss wearing opposing colors. I've heard OSU fans are worse, though I have no first hand knowledge and thus can't comment. But I can say that Michigan fans are by far the worst fan base I've ever personally encountered.

Ditto to this.

Went to both 2009 and 2011 games there as a student. In 2009 we made the mistake of cutting through some of their tailgates on the way to the stadium.

Was a student worker for the 2011 game and was at the top of their student section all game. After the finish, I had to walk through them all to get down to field level (in all of my ND apparel and equipment), and it was the closest I'd ever come to throwing a punch.

Was pretty brutal both years.

I went to a few OSU games back in the day when my buddy played for them and I actually thought their fans were relatively tame with fans of the visiting team, and that includes a game against USC where they lost a brutal game and one against Michigan.

Parents of that OSU team considered Penn State to be the most hostile place they played. Their fans were launching full beers at the OSU player's family members as they were walking towards the stadium to watch the game. My buddy, not the player but his brother, said he just covered his mom's head with his arms and got her out of there as fast as possible.

I've only been to a few other stadiums stadiums to watch ND play and I was always treated well. In fact, NW fans were offering me food and beer last year. They were incredibly nice. Miami fans when we played them at Soldier Field were the worst I've ever encountered. They were obnoxious, and it felt like a fist fight was going to break out a few times in those stands.

Can confirm, when I was 16 I went to the game against scUM in '09 when Tate threw the game winning pass at the goal line with like 07 secs left. on the way in, had a half full beer can thrown and me and my dad. After the game I was getting cussed out and being told the Irish suck yada yada yada.

Just be prepared for some ass holes. I wonder if they won't be a little calmer given the fact they're 5-2 and this isn't early September week 2 like the games of old in the series.

BTW the line is down to -1.5 for scUM after opening at -4.0.

It’s been a bit but I went to a few games at Michigan in the late 90s/early 2000s as an undergrad/recent grad and never really had a problem beyond some mild taunting.
I always felt like the worst places to be a visiting ND fan were the wannabes, particularly BC and Purdue.

Why would your throw a beer that wasn't empty? Morons. So they serve inside the stadium from the sound of things? Good to know.

No, this was on the walk to the stadium. I don't believe they sell inside.

I would advise you to pull an Irish Bloke move and sneak in your liquor of choice, and dump it in a $25 Coca Cola.

Some good points in things Rake's report. This team has gotten better each week and we should expect improvement this week. Getting Armstrong and Crawford back will help, but given Koon has scUM's receivers in the HoF already, we should just forfeit.

Look for Long to have a good opening drive scripted. We may not score, but I expect the team will move the ball and flip field position.

F@ck Michigan!

I really do think Book can have a good game against these guys and he absolutely needs to.

I predict on the opening drive they will target either Kmet or Claypool on the sidelines on a 50/50 ball and the rest of the drive likely depends on the result of that play.

Throughout the game I expect them to counter Brown's aggressive pressure packages with a steady dose of quick hitters to Michael Young, Armstrong, and eventually I think we will see Keys and/or Lenzy come up with a big play in the middle of the field with Long/Book finding and exploiting a mismatch.

Just finished the I.I. podcast.

Both Tim Prister and Pete Sampson pick Michigan. Omalley is not unveiling his pick until Thursday, but hinted as if it will also be Michigan.

They must also have missed the memo of how good ND is and how bad Michigan is.

Line is currently down to MI -1.5

Bet it will be even come gametime.

If I was BK, I would use this to smolder the guys even more. Talk about disrespect. How do you go from barely losing to GA, who is a top team whether they lay a duck vs S Carolina or not, to being considered even with a middle of the B10 pack team like Michigan?

ND needs to shut them up...hard

McCaffrey would worry me more than Patterson. But both are better than Book, IMO. Book (and ND) have beaten no one.

I would have to counter with and who exactly has Michigan beat? I would offer PSU isnt a true top ten team. PSU against GA isnt a pretty game for PSU. And even still, PSU didnt play a great game by any stretch. They played to not lose more than win big vs Michigan.

Michigan hasn't beaten anyone. But that's kind of my point - ND and Michigan are in the same category this year. Good teams, but not great.

And they're at home and going to let it all out after what happened Saturday. For every slight we take at Patterson we can take one at Book. And the Shea I saw Saturday I'd take 10/10 times over Book.

We can pick on their man to man defense strategy, and they can pick on the fact that Troy Pride is our best corner and he's easy money on back shoulder throws. And they have 3-Chase Claypool's + a Ronnie Bell to throw those too.

Neither team is great. Both are good. One is at home, is the Vegas favorite, and has the ND beat-writers picking them to win.

God I can't wait until next week after we win.

But naturally you hedged yourself by PICKING ND 9-13, yet are talking like there's no way we win....

Koon can't lose.

This is an equal opponent backs to the wall with personnel all over the field-while I luv my Irish I tell you this is a big difficult game vs an opponent who doesn't do the little things to win, Notre Dame needs to understand that and keep it that way-I'm very concerned Mich is good!

I'll go on record. Michigan 24, ND 20. I wish I could change my vote but I'll post there too.

Michigan wins. Hope I'm wrong.

Im going to say it again and reap more hate:

No Playoff caliber team would ever be concerned with playing Michigan. Any true playoff team would bury Mich by halftime and call in the backups to feast. The fact that the line is what it is and people are seriously concerned over Michigan shows ND is no way ready for the big time show.
