My opinion is that I have no opinion. Stanford use to be ND's doormat years ago but David Shaw changed all of that. I'm afraid that Kelly will pick a losing game plan for ND and Stanford will run all over the Irish. I'm also wondering if Kelly took back calling the plays because of late, the play calling has been awful. My last comment will be that ND will never be an elite team again until three things happen.

(1) Retire the head priest that runs the school, he's a scholar and knows nothing about
football
.

(2) Fire Swarbucks, he's an egg-headed lawyer whose more of a politician than an AD.

(3) Send Brian Kelly out on the first & fastest train leaving Southbend.

Did you regularly call Slammin' Sammy when you lived in Odessa?

My humble opinion is that Notre Dame will never again be an elite football program. You have a priest who is a scholar running the joint, an educated lawyer type egghead as AD and a bungular for a coach. Get rid of the afrementioned (3) bums and maybe the football team/program has a chance of being elite again!

Stanford after Navy was circled on my schedule the minute I saw it. You want a soft opponent at home the week after the Middies. Not crammed into a 5 hour flight to fight those roid boys.

I also call BS on Kelly claiming a few weeks ago the team was getting stronger - not just maintaining. Sure don't look it.

I'm going to defend these guys here on 3 counts-play a hot team in a hot humid environment come home and play the marines in a slugfest then go to Palo Alto for what you know is going to be a bloodbath-that's a %^%%$#@ schedule that I'd love to see ALABAMA take on. If they win this game they deserve a &^%%$(& credit for a spectacular season. Don't tax them too much this week except in the weight room and prepare mentally for one last ball game. They can beat Stanford easily if Adams is not used up or Jones can pick it up again and Wimbush can get some time to throw the ball. I think they win this game. Wimbush is the key not to shoulder all the load but to just make the routine throw and get out and run when he sees the opportunity. Work on his mechanics over the summer for this game just let him go. This game has turned out to be one of the most important games for the program in a while.

Wake did beat NCSt, last week. That was mildly shocking, to me.

What doesnt shock me is Doeren accusing Wake of putting thumbtacks on their lineman jerseys, and spreading broken glass in the backfield anytime NCST had the ball.

I heard Kelly has never won at Stanford. Kind of crazy. He needs to change that this week. I know we're all on an after-the-playoffs-slump, but this is secretly a massive game for ND.

NY6 bowl, remaining in the top ~7, finishing higher in the rankings = higher pre-season next year, and recruiting California is easier when you go 2-0 vs. California.

I think Koon is right, it's not getting the talk of other big games this year. Not even NC State level hype. When in actuality, this game is basically the difference between a "good" season (beating all our rivals, winning 10 games, finishing top 10, going to NY6 major bowl) and a "barely acceptable" season -- losing to maybe the most important team for us to beat regularly from a recruiting standpoint, winning 9 games, finishing top 25, not going to a major bowl.

I honestly feel like this season is probably a failure in my book if we don't win this game.

Agreed. I also feel this is a high pressure game for Kelly. If you can't win at Stanford this year, when:
1. their D is not very good,
2. their best player is hobbled, and
3. ND has an NFL offensive line

then when will you?

...... not a failure. Just a little disappointing when we're so close.

I'll bet that any real football person in the country not emotionally bound to ND fandom would view a 9-3 regular season record with that schedule quite a success. ... and a 10-2 regular season record a standing ovation success.

Just imagine if we woulda beat Georgia

i dont think this team is mentally tough enough to handle a starting out 7-0, 8-0 type of hype season. the wheels would have come off sooner than miami i reckon. Having that 1 loss took the monkey off their backs and they were able to lurk in the long grass.

I’ll believe Dex is healthy when we see him in the open field and it doesn’t look like he’s running with a prosthetic leg that he’s still getting adjusted to.

I want to win as much as the next fan but more than winning I just want the boys to leave this game healthy. That way all our kids that are banged up can recover in the weeks off and be ready for the bowl. Be it an NY6 game or some little bowl before that I just want to win the bowl now!

Anyone that isn’t a fan of an SEC team. With the exception of T-Town on the boards all I’ve heard from Bama, Auburn, and UGA fans at work are how if they would’ve had this schedule they would be putting up 70 points a game and that we haven’t dominated anyone of merit except for USC who also couldn’t compete with them.

I work with military students and educators a bunch... every so often I have to go to galas with the leadership of local bases and institutions. I mention this because the personnel are from all over and of this group a handful are from the South and MAJOR SEC homers... Every time we get together I have to hear how Notre Dame play absolutely nobody, EVER, has never once won a real National Title, deserve zero respect, attention or anything of that regard because they are and always have been 100% irreverent and how SEC schedules are completely justified in adding Mercer in November because having to play even a handful of SEC conference games every year is infinitely more difficult than any other schedule in college football, period.

For the record the fans in question are a couple bama fans, a Razorback alum, an UGA alum and a couple Kentucky wildcat alums.

It's just dizzying the group think they all have. They stick together though, I'll give them that.

Yeah. Like the 70 Bama put up on Mercer. No wait that was 56.

My homeboys keeping it real.

However, the Arky and UK alums talking football smack is hilarious. Anyways... best to just ignore them. Otherwise, they start pulling them banjos out of their trucks and you know what that means.

Bryce Love is day to day.

Walker, starting OT, is doubtful for Saturday. Anyone know if this is a new injury, or if he's played up until this week?

I think Koon is right, it's not getting the talk of other big games this year. Not even NC State level hype. I honestly feel like this season is probably a failure in my book if we don't win this game.

Not sure I'd call it a failure if we lose - 4-8 is a failure, 9-3 is not a failure - but I agree this is a pretty big game that will likely define the way we all think about this season.

Beat Stanford and we'll win 10 games, go to an NY6 Bowl and, if we win that, likely finish in the top 6 or so. Great turnaround. Too bad what happened in Miami, but an excellent season.

Lose and we're 9-3. Not bad on paper, but we've lost to three of the best four teams we played, cementing the impression that we can't beat good teams and we don't finish strong. We'll go to some mediocre bowl where no one will care if we win or lose, and probably finish ranked somewhere in the teens, with no momentum for recruiting or the offseason. Pretty disappointing considering where we sat two weeks ago.

So, yeah, Notre Dame fans may be the only people paying attention, but it's a big game for us.

Really? Out of 14 teams in the SEC, there are a total of 3 that have equal or better records and 8 that have no chance to get to our worst possible record (not including a bowl game)

That's because they had to go through the Thunderdome that is the SEC East. Put South Carolina in the Pac-12 and they probably make the playoffs. #SECspeed

I'm here, I think.

If you lose to Stanford, this is basically '15 all over again. Winning a bowl and getting to ten wins would be great on the surface... but it's actually indicative of a failure to get over the hump and steal a win from someone you aren't supposed to beat (UGA '17; Clemson '15), as well as a sign that you aren't consistently getting wins over teams that are on your "level" (Stanford '17; Stanford '15).

The only reason to maybe not burn everything if we drop this one to Stanford is the fact that it looks like the coaching staff is ACTUALLY in a really good spot (as long as Long is still learning and evolving).
