Wish those were the actual spreads, cuz I'd make a ton of money on that.

There should be no way Navy should be able to stop NDs pass offense. No offense to Navy players but they dont have a single guy that should be able to play with Claypool and Kmet. If they do, then you really, really have to put that on BK and the OC playcalling. There is not a single player on Navys team that would even be offered a ND scholarship much less start. Just a HUGE disparity in talent.!

To be fair, we have a two-year-starter and captain who literally used to be on Navy’s team.

I know its Navy and it always gets weird but let's keep their 7-1 record in perspective. They've beaten holy cross, Tulane, Connecticut, Tulsa, USF, Air Force, and East Carolina. They lost to Memphis. Sos is 67th. I still like our chances...

Tulane and Air Force are quietly solid teams. They're 6-3 and 7-2, with all their losses to ranked teams.

Navy isn't a world-beater, but they'll be tough and can probably finish the year ranked if they beat SMU. On top of that, all we need is Memphis to lose to Cincy and Navy will play for the AAC championship. Can only help in the (probably doomed) Cotton Bowl race.

Yeah, I think if they come out like they did last weekend, I think we will win. Navy is better this year, but their record is a bit of a sham since they've lost to the only decent team they've played.

Tulane is "decent" or at least they are better than usual. Navy beat them, but it came down to a FG on the last play.

Navy managed to drive about 40 yards into FG range in the last minute without throwing a pass. Haven't seen that too often. Perry dropped back to throw, but then ran for good yardage. They really don't have a conventional passing game.

Air Force is Navy's best win. God help us if we are no better than Tulane and Air Force.

This.

Yeah, ND has more NFL talent by a country mile. Well, Navy's defense is shockingly competent this year even without "elite" athletes and while many of them might not be good enough to play here they are certainly beating the crap out of a lot of FBS teams full of scholarship players... many of whom would start at ND.

And their offense is incredibly efficient, with a more explosive passing game than years past. Is what it is, overlook Navy at your own peril. They are the 3rd best team ND has played and ND lost to the two that are better than them.

I was listening to the isd podcast and didn't know they got a new def cord who has simplified their def but looks confusing to offense....

They are not the 3rd best team in my view. I like Virginia better and even VA Tech. I definitely would put USC over them and maybe Duke too (depending on which Duke team shows up). I just think you’re way off base on Navy. I plan on it being closer than I’d like, but we aren’t losing. I’m not buying the hand wringing on this one. We have athletes to dominate them and a great DC to utilize those athletes. I believe we stay disciplined and show well defensively.

This will be a tough game, but we’ll win. We have plenty of guys on D who have faced Navy a couple of times, so it’s not like those teams with talent that never play them.

Does anyone know how early before kickoff the servicemen enter the stadium?

How many games have you watched Navy play this year?

Just one honestly. Typically I watch them a handful of times. I’ve seen their movie before and know how it ends. ND will win

Playing Navy is a weird experience, because some games I've gone in stressed, and then we blow them out and/or beat them handedly. Other games, I've been lax on, and then they play us in a close one or beat us. They are usually well-disciplined and dominate the clock, and also throw in some cheap/dangerous plays. It's not often that it's an enjoyable game.

This.

Don't let the name fool you.

It's not just about talent. It's about ability to execute at a high level. No doubt that UVA, VT and USC have far more talent. But their schemes (while unique in their own right) are not something that you see literally once a year. You can key on similar things as a defender. All of that goes out the the door when playing Navy. It's a completely different game and Navy's ability to execute all phases with great precision supersedes the talent gap.

With the respectful relationship ND has with Navy, does ND let them in prior to opening the gates to the public? Never paid attention to the other times we hosted Navy.

True. But we see them every year. And almost every significant player on our defense saw them last year, some the year before as well. We practice for them. And we have a great defensive coordinator. We're better equipped than most to deal with Navy.

This. I think we’re way better equipped to deal with them now than ever. Talent gap larger coupled with better prep and adjustments from the DC

I've been to the game plenty of times but I usually stay at the tailgate as long as possible.

Mom & Dad are taking some friends and they wanted to watch them all enter the stradium if they could.

SWarbrick has told the SBT that the game will not sell out. Pretty big news.

Well face it, Navy isnt a fun game to watch. No big names playing nor much entertainment. If you are a non season ticket holder, this is probably right up there with Duke or Bowling Green in lure to attend.

That's the first time since the early 70s, right?

But yeah, I'm not sure how that happens. We've played way less compelling games than this one over the last 40 years. Can't they, like, bus in a few regiments from the Great Lakes Navy Base or something?

re the game itself I'm curious to see how Lea uses Hamilton vs the Mids. As a nickel back on third and long would be at the bottom of my list. There is no third and long vs Navy.

Safeties need to play downhill and tackle vs this offense. Gilman can do it but is Elliot better than Hamilton for this?

How does this happen? Give them away and count it.
agree, you need to keep the streak going. the part that really ticks me off is when JS says it's not important to him. if it's not important to JS that ND sells out then why the hell did you spend millions of dollars remodeling the stadium.

Article by Hanson below; he interviewed Swarbrick on it.

Basically, Swarbrick says he anticipated this would happen and it was overdue. He talks a bit about how the bluehairs have dwindled away slowly over the years due to being pissed off about the stadium upgrades/enhancements, but he said (ad lib) "we'll take 75k fans and a 'raucous' .... (that's a stretch, Jacky-boy).... environment than 78k golf clappers." I actually love that he said that lol. While still not the most intimidating atmosphere I think there's no doubt it's improved.

But he says the main thing is that we don't normally have three November games, and usually only have 1, maybe 2, scheduled. And for obvious reasons, November is harder to pack the place. The cold obviously the main obstacle, but I think it's the lack of quality games with VT being down, Navy, and BC. And while all three are decent, and with the latter two traditional rivals, it's just hard to sell out in November.

He said in years past they can go to friends of the University, whether it be a company or organization, and dump of 50 or 100 tickets in chunks at a big discount, and they can hand out to employees or members and get to the sellout that way. But it's much harder to do that when you have three games in November. Too much supply, not enough demand this year.

There have been games in the past that have threatened to ruin the sell out streak. Typically they end up selling the tickets to corporations or others at a discount last minute, right? Yeah, Eric Hansen alluded to it in this article I just found:

https://www.ndinsider.com/football/...cle_ef352b6e-af9d-5b38-8e1f-f6a1e4a1de0c.html

Looks like this is legit. Swarbrick isn't going to be able to preserve the streak by the sounds of it, not this time.

[EDIT] Damn, Bloke beat me to it while I was reading

Isn't it more likely that they died? Then that they're pissed about a jumbotron?

Also why is he making it sound as if we have to choose between 78k filled with greyhairs and 75k of young rowdy fans? Can't we have 78k of young energetic fans?

Our company bought a block of 150 tickets one year at the low price of $10/ticket. Great deal for the staff and their family to be able to go to a game.
