thought was a bit of an odd ending to the presser when BK said"GPA's don't matter" anymore with recruits.
I wasn't quite sure what he was getting at there.

He talked about how GPA isn't the be all end all anymore. What kind of person are they, how do they fit in with their student body, how will they fit into ND, etc

I thought he was saying that it doesn't impress anyone to say you're bringing in smart kids with good academic credentials. (Maybe it mattered more before, or maybe it mattered more at U Cinn.) I suppose he's right and, besides, we know that most, if not all, of the ND commits are at least decent students.

I didn't hear the whole presser, but did anyone ask him if the 2015 Irish class is finished? Seems like an obvious question.

I also think it was a tongue in cheek commentary on the old Al Davis line, "Just win, baby, win!"

I thought as others did the day was well handled.

I was freaked that BK didn't reference any individual player by name as being a possible freshman standout. But talked about the positions that created the need.

My impressions were that this is a well rounded class. I listened too much to other posters opinions about these kids, (specifically the ones that had other players they favored at the position.) I was amazed at the quality of this group. I was really impressed that I didn't see a weak player in the group. And some of the kids I didn't know anything about, had some really impressive film!

I was very proud of BK's answer when asked about JJ's height; specifically that he didn't say "He was taller than Joe Schmidt!"

I thought that was very interesting! No one even broached the subject. Not a whisper!

I also saw something that said BK hopes to add graduate transfer(s) this offseason at "skill positions"

I honestly don't care that much about Caleb Kelly. He'd be a great add, but I always temper enthusiasm about anyone from California and I don't see him as a make or break player.

But Demetris Robertson is as close to a "must get" as I can remember. Not because there is a huge, glaring need at WR... but because he's simply an elite talent. If we don't land him I'll be crushed.

I agree, I stand by my comparison that Robertson is as close to Jaylon Smith is we'll have had since Jaylon. Will be the best player on the field in most games after a couple of seasons.

He's waiting to see if he can get into Stanford before he commits.

Without Demetris Robertson, this class is really average, especially considering we had 10 wins. It's currently #15 on 247.

That was a nice interview.

1. Very interesting that they brought Ian Book into the class with the purpose of having him "active" right away, that way they can preserve Wimbush's redshirt in 2016. BK referred to Book as a "long reliever" right off the bat because of his intelligence. Basically, a guy that is coming in knowing that his greatest chance will be to save the day in case of injury, and also to be a place holder for Wimbush for a year.

2. EQ praise has me excited. A 6'4" dude that can run.

As I mentioned a few days ago on another thread. Wiltfong was interviewed last week about ND and his comment about ND's class this year was that they exceeded expectations. Everyone believed this year would be more of a grind considering the new coaches and shifting of recruiting responsibilities. Wiltfong believes that the changes will really pay off with 17's class as he expects the Irish to have one of the top classes.

Agreed, would be our lowest class since 2012. I'm not necessarily disappointed with it, but let's not pretend this year's class should be celebrated as a triumph of recruiting.

1. I'd like to chalk it up once again to numbers but we signed 23 players and our average player rating is actually lower than most the teams in front of us. Usually we have a much higher avg. rating than overall due to smaller numbers but higher quality, not so with this class.

2. With that said, there are some really good players in this class that aren't getting full credit from the services. Studstill, Elliot, Jamir, Jonathan Jones, P-money etc. Those are all guys that, IMO could very easily be consensus 4 star players. So that also impacts that avg. number. Example, the consensus on 247 doesn't even have Jamir Jones ranked as his rating is .84. That means that he is somewhere below 778, where Deon McIntosh is rated. I don't think the staff views it as 1,000 better players than Jamir and he showed enough at the Semper Fi Bowl for me to not believe that either. Per the composite Jalen Elliot is at #470, WTF, is that even real. Has any off these guys even watched him play? Just based on being an exceptional athlete he should be higher than that.

3. I am disappointed somewhat, but for me its more about numbers than talent. There is enough talent here to win with but we need more numbers, IMO. We were told there was space for it and with transfers it sure seems like there should be. However, we passed on some quality guys along the way.

Seeing OSU and Michigan have top 5 classes while we arent even in the top 10 is probably the most disappointing part. Once we put together a few 10 win season in a row I expect recruiting to pick up. 2017 looks to be the start of it. We cant afford another 8-5 year under Kelly for awhile if we want to win a NC. It would kill recruiting.
