after what happened the last few years with recruiting, the capper being all that drama BS from last years recruiting class. I am not going to be excited about any of these recruits until they are on campus and attending classes. and even then, im not sure anymore.

the recruiting class debacle of last year really kinda burned me to the whole recruting process, and after the omar hunters, and justin trattous of the world, I thought that was not possible.

i just cant get excited about recruiting rankings

I understand they added the long snapper who they give a two star for this purpose but I think they shouldn't include him at all. No offense to him.

For me the two Little's leaving ND at the alter on signing day was the toughest to take.

Interesting fact of the day: all of ND's commits are rated as 4:s: players by at least two services (assuming Devin Butler gets a bump on 247 as announced). The one exception is Corey Robinson who analysts on ESPN and 247 have pegged as the "sleeper" of the class who could best exceed his current projection.

All things considered, this class is so far greatly exceeding my expectations.

Excellent detective work Lax. Another thing I just noticed that maybe others have is that we have the 2nd highest average points per commit on 247. We only trail O$U. That's also without Montelus, Robinson, Butler, or Onwualu getting a bump.

IDK if it makes you feel any better, but:

Omar Hunter:
2008 - DNP (redshirt)
2009 starts - 13
2010 starts -6
2011 starts - 1

71 total tackles and 1 sack, 1 forced fumble

Rack Em said we have the 2nd highest Average Points/ Recruit, not Rating/ Recruits. I don't know enough about 247's point system to comment on whether Average Points/ Recruit is a relevant stat.

ND is currently 4th in Average Rating/ Recruit at 91.36. The top 3 are (1) USC, (2) OSU, and (3) Oregon. Oregon only has three recruits though, so one could reasonably toss them out at this point.

I should have specified that I was looking in the top 15 and at Rating/Recruit. I wouldn't count Oregon since they only have a handful of commits. Good catch fellas.

Which site does IE prefer for recruiting? I like 247's website, a lot, but I think Rivals does the best job at evaluating talent.

I think this site uses 247 for resources the most. I also think that 247 is getting some good guys from Rivals to jump ship.

Greatly exceeding? What were your expectations?

We were 8-5 last year with a poor finish to the season and we currently have a top 10 class with arguably the best OL haul and LB of the 2013 class. It is hard not to be happy with what we currently have.

This. Did anyone honestly expect us to have a top 10 class at this point? Or an average recruit rating that's in the top 5? And we've addressed every area of desperate need except for LB.... and at the position we have one of the top 2 players in the country committed.

As I said... exceeding expectations.

I think Rivals is arguably the worst service now, even behind ESPN, in evaluating talent. They try to project towards the NFL... and that makes absolutely zero sense. Plus their 6.1 point scale is straight goofy.

I'd argue we haven't addressed the CB spot with an elite talent. Someone like Mackensie is what we really need.

But it's been addressed. One guy is a 94 on 247 and consensus 4:s:. The other is a 4:s: on two services. Not shabby, certainly.

If you're curious, Mattingly commit keeps Irish No. 9 in Rivals team rankings. ND may lead nation in 3-stars on verge of adding a fourth.

This is the most important part. All our kids are very solid players and will be getting their due respect by the time NSD rolls around. Great job recruiting underrated talent and not just looking at the rankings by the coaching staff.

of the few 3* star (non-consensus 4*) recruits we have, I can see all of them getting a 4* eventually. Matuska may be the only one not to get a 4th star in my opinion.

Mattingly's not going to be one of them if he can't camp with his knee injury.

Matuska is already a 4:s: on 2 services (Scout and 247). Every single one of our players is a 4:s: on at least one service except for Corey Robinson.... which means there is a lot to like with each player even if they aren't a can't-miss 5:s: like Jaylon.

Notre Dame's average star rating per commit ranks 4th nationally, only behind USC, Texas & Alabama per 247Sports.

Versatility, depth, and the ability of BK to develop talent is what is happening at ND. He is one of the best at developing talent as we all know. He can spot those who have peaked and those who have untapped potential. I like where we are headed.
