Not an insider. Break it down for us please.

My bad...

Basically, it goes thru how high hopes are, but why should next year be different.
Because Kelly >Weis, second year of the system, defense has playmakers (mentions Manti, Ishaq and The Beast).
Nix should develop into the NT needed to anchor a BCS caliber defense.

And one thing I really like:
"Diaco's front seven is dramatically bigger than Notre Dame's front was, say, five years ago. They'll average about 320 across the line and 250 at linebacker, compared to around 270 on the line and 215 at linebacker in 2006 -- and that season's group probably wasn't any more athletic than this one."

I really can't wait for the Fall.

Thanks PLAC ... The highlighted section says enough for me!

Love the fact that he refers to Lynch as a BEAST

I am telling you, if you watched the spring game this year, you saw nothing.

Great article. I, for the first time in years, love the hype. I think this team is going to do some damage...especially to Michigan..embarrassing them at their first ever night game. I can't wait.

they didn't get a lot of reps in the spring game, but i gotta think that they are going to take some serious strides with an extra year of work in the defensive system.

I doubt BK played his full hand in the spring game. Mark my words, we will be in the NC picture, not just a BCS bowl.

We are loaded, and like Ive said numerous times, there is not any super teams out there who scares me, we can and will play with any teams. Look for the "O" to take the next step, just like the "D" did at the end of the year.

They got no "reps", because you didn't see ND's defense.

It is their size and their builts. These guys have become MONSTERS.

Didn't show his full hand? BK didn't even sit at the table! No one saw anything. Because if they did everyone would be saying, "My, I cannot believe how many players are playing at such a high level!" Or some **** like that.

I completely agree. We, the nation, S. Florida have no idea what is in store for them.

Spring recap: Notre Dame made such great strides at the end of last season that this doesn't feel like a typical throw-the-Irish-in-the-poll-and-maybe-they'll-be-better-for-a-few-weeks pick. Linebacker Manti Te'o is the kind of elite defensive player Notre Dame has lacked for years, and it seems as if the coaching staff has upgraded the talent around him. Aaron Lynch, an early enrollee defensive end, impressed his coaches. So did Louis Nix, a 340-pound sophomore nose tackle. If the Irish really are better on defense, they can make a BCS bowl. Because offense hasn't been the problem.

thanks Golden...they're right every year we have high expectations for the team because they are ND and we are always optimistic about the season only to be let down a majority of the time but this time it is legit because ND has a defense to back up the expectations.

One would assume the offense will improve in year two... though I will say there are more than a couple factors that could have us take a step back... lot of potential worries on that side of the ball (who is QB, RB depth, Floyd, TE depth, who's our number two WR... that kind of stuff)... and it would be this program's luck to have the defense become top 25 caliber and see the offense struggle all equaling out to another 7-8 win season
