If it's Elston i'll lose my shit. Just please do the thing already and hire Elko. The longer this drags the more pessimistic I become.

He's reporting what his sources tell him. You realize there can be more than one source, right? So if one of his sources says something, and it contradicts with another, you want him to ignore it? That's the dumbest.

Not the dumbest. Either he has no sources or his sources suck. They are not going to flip their decision in a couple hours. One of those sources is totally wrong. This is why people don't buy what he says.

I would have been happy with either hire. But Elko's numbers speak for themselves.

Anyone know if Elko is a coach who hits the recruiting trail hard? I know he's coming from WF so they were shopping in a different aisle, but is he a willing/energetic recruiter?

Solely from reading what recruitniks are saying, I've read that he is a hard worker and willing recruiter. Will do what it takes to win/be successful.

Personally, I think this will be a situation where results will do more good than his personality. But with that said, I've always believed that effort is all you need at ND, because it sells itself for the most part. As long as you are willing to put in the time, to find the right guys, there will be quality football players that want to be at ND. If we eliminate scholarship gaps on our depth charts, and the talent level stays status quo, we'll be a top 25 defense, easily. In time that is.

He lead Wake Forest's defense to a tops 20 scoring D and top 10 in turnovers! I can't wait to see what he can do with the talent we have at ND. He runs a base 4-2-5. I think this could suit us well with the young talent we have @ corner ie Love, Watkins, Vaughn, Crawford etc. I like Morgan and Martin/Coney in the 4-2. Bilal may not get a ton of playing time next year. I think he needs to bulk up. That's beside the point thought, GREAT HIRE!! Help is on its way!!

Goooooooo Irish!!!

Wait, even in Canada that is a "Too many men" penalty...

unless Wake were to do this against ND: ACC crew would somehow miss that call - even with replay

I read up on Elko's 4-2-5 on 247 and it sounds pretty nasty. The linebackers line up on the line of scrimmage with lots of gap overloads and Mke/Sam twists. There's a rover position that I'm sure Tranquil could thrive in. Pressure is dialed up all over making it impossible for the O to know where it's coming from. Very aggressive. Has flexibility to apply the 4-3 when needed. This is the type of D we need that will allow our athletes make plays. The Mime - Nyles- is the lynchpin of the defense and 247 says expect him to blitz a lot and have a BIG year.

I'd prefer not lots of blitzing. were 0-2 with DCs who were built on blitzing.

I'd love to see a rotation of Bilal and Tranquil at rover. What is scary is who will be the two safeties on the backend. Unless you play one safety and a nickel in Crawford.

Bilal is the softest player relative to talent of all time. Watching him lollygag around on defense, I'd be surprised if elko can do anything with him but I hope he turns into a player.
