Then again it is the state of ND right now, we have been in the final rankings (25) exactly 5 times since 2000. 5!

And only 1 time while BC has been here.

We are becoming exactly what people have been saying, a 2nd tier/level program.

We have been in the final BCS Rankings only 2 times in the last 9 years. Pretty dang crappy.

We're too close to the situation to really see it. Everyone else knows we are a 2nd their program, hell even Joe Montana insinuated it years ago (think when Weis was here). Sad part is I've actually enjoyed following English soccer more the last few years. Less baggage, all I do is watch the games. Following this team closely is unhealthy.

Look on the bright side. We have Field Turf!

Trying to catch up and get clear on the facts -

So we have legit reason to expect Folston AND Bryant to have been caught with refer?

And that's all we know, correct?

Any reason to reasonably expect them to transfer? They would lose a year I believe, no?

Hopefully they're only suspended in the bowl game.

Getting from that second tier to the first tier is difficult. But I do think Kelly is on the right track. Yes it has been five years now, but the program was down quite a bit and it takes time to build the depth and get the quality of players needed to get to that first tier group. Miss on a few recruits each class and have the injury bug hit and it becomes much more difficult. This season would have played out differently if the Frozen Five and the injuries had not happened. That should give the Irish fans some hope moving forward. Just need to hang in there and keep trying to get higher quality players that fits moving forward.

Not sure what your point is on the bold. Even if they abolished athletics, ND would still admit hundreds of kids every year that recreationally smoke. In fact, I'd guess that there are likely more marijuana users among non-athletes.

I understand your second point though. It is still illegal. My only gripe is that ND should be a bit more rational / progressive regarding punishment. We are talking about something that is legal in 20+ states with many more states (including Indiana) considering legislation to treat offenses as nothing more than a parking ticket.

Only four states allow recreational smoking. Not the 20+ stated here.

I guess it was not clear. Many people seem to want the school to be a little less stringent and want whomever to look the other way like other schools do. What I was getting at is that is not how ND rolls. And the guys that took the scholarship are aware of this because of DuLac and no doubt all the other NCAA stuff they have to be aware of. So they jeopardize the initially great decision to come to ND for free and screw it up over the dank.... And get punished like the other ND students would as opposed to sitting out a drive against Scranton Polytechnic.

Understand your point. And obviously I agree that these guys took the scholarship knowing fully the NCAA rules. My only point is that ND's internal punishments appear to be completely out of line with any of their peers. It's entirely excessive and has nothing to do with the school's integrity.

He stated it was legal in 20 states, not legal recreationally. He only mentions for recreational use in the first paragraph.

So BK is now distributing drugs to RB's to have a built in excuse for not running.

I get that, just trying to make sure it's understood that recreational use isn't in 20+ states.

It does bear on the schools integrity. And that is my point regarding the status of the ND experience and degree. It is substantially higher bar to meet relative to other schools that happen to also play football on a big stage.

I am tired of the "holier than thou" approach we usually take. There is a disconnect in our program. You can't approach this process with a huge financial investment, try to hire the best coaches, and update facilities - then run the university like a Guantanamo prison camp. There has to be some skin in the game for the administration.

That being said, if ND wants to go the route of continuing to approach this like the snobs we have been, then lets lower expectations to 6 to 8 wins a game and all be happy.

Way to not exaggerate or anything.

I knew guys at ND who did HARD drugs (i.e. cocaine) and they did it frequently. None of them ever got caught. You have to be a total idiot to get busted for weed on that campus.

But if the issue is a failed drug test, pot is basically the only "drug" which causes people to get caught.

For some reason I read 'Martin' as 'Stanley'. I got excited. Then I realized this is Notre Dame, and there's nothing to be excited about. Re-read, verified.

I guess that is my point. Why bust them? I mean bust them, sure, slap them on the wrist. But lets not pretend this isn't a college campus. If they are dealing weed, then that is a different story, but lets not pretend this doesn't go on everywhere or that half the people working on that campus haven't lit up at one point or another. This approach that ND takes is antiquated and frankly, getting old...and yes, I did go to school there and share that opinion.

It's easier to get caught smoking weed than doing coke. Weed has a very distinct smell.
