I've always preferred shunning over banning. It's much more civil. Heavy and ham-handed authoritarian action is distasteful and boorish.

In "The Olde Days" on this board people were sent to Coventry. That expression is used early in the movie, "Captain's Courageous". In the vbulletin software used on this board "Tachy goes to Coventry" is the name for the "Ignore Poster" feature. A poster sent to Coventry automatically went on everybody's "Ignore List". They could continue to post but nobody could see their posts so they were shunned and left talking to themselves.

The original administrator decided to go with banning. He considered "Time Outs" appropriate for those ham-handed, distasteful and boorish individuals who were acting out their inability to get along with others, narcissism, and/or resentment of any rules or authority. He noted it was a teaching tool kindergarten teachers used with the immature.

I put myself in timeout in the fourth quarter due to inebriation.

Looks like I missed some epic meltdowns.

No, not epic. The mods were on top of it pretty quickly so it couldn't get epic. They moderated. Like a skilled bouncer they tried to reason with the agitated like Patrick Swayze in Road House. When that didn't work, like Dalton, they politely showed them the door. Taking away one's keyboard eliminates punches being thrown.

Pain don't hurt. Be nice until it's time to not be nice. It really wasn't epic at all. Pretty tame for a loss.

Very good. Glad I didn't have to bring my old tired arse out of retirement to show them how it's done.

What the hell --- why not just go with a Scarlet Letter? Pick an "A" word, any "A" word and slap it in bright red glory on the chest (screen name) of any deemed offender.

If you care to discuss "equal opportunity" banning and deletion, explain, again, just why a certain ex-mod's toxic and vituperative parting rant was allowed to stand for even a moment, much less days?

I appreciate a good patty melt as well as an entertaining and informative (at times) melt down.

Then you sir shall be shunned from ever posting in the IE Game Day Mega Metal Mix thread forever.

What do you have against ham?

I keep a kosher Irish house. Many years ago I was headed for a meeting of The Sons of Hibernia. I stopped off for a pop or two on the way, got a little disoriented and wound up at B'nai B'rith meeting down the hall.

They were good people. I stayed. I listened. I drank a little wine. I made some friends. I gave up my daily rasher of bacon.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Eh, no biggie ... I don't need no more concussions brought on by head banging.

Wait. Who are you? Why am I talking to you? What are we talking about? Why am I here? Isn't it my nap time?

Slow down there, me boyo. I'm pretty sure that on certain Irish High Holidays Special Dispensations are granted. That would include any day in which Brandy comes into play.

I'm not sure how but someone (or multiple of you) somehow took this thread as "publicly humiliating people". I will not mention the person who neg repped me for creating it so I don't publicly humiliate them, but this thread was in no way created as a pillory and stocks for IE members.

Many people were asking about other posters who got banned, why and how long. Instead of wondering about it, this thread was created to keep people in the know on those occrrences. Nothing else. Learn to read better.

I thought this was the thread where people go to get banned, or their material that got them banned gets moved here so we can all laugh at them. Sonofabitch

No one got more than a few days or so. Sometimes a cool-off is needed. I even had one poster who asked me to ban him for a few days if ND lost.

Too funny. What kind of grown adult cannot control his emotions enough to be civil after a group of college kids don't win a football game? Sounds like a loose cannon to me. :)

It happens. I didn't feel right doing it (and I've been ban friendly), but "this guy" begged for it. Welcome back....
