I would be very happy finishing the class with Cage and Quick.

agree completely...and even without them or just one of them it is a fantastic haul!
is it "post natty appearance great"? well, no. but i have zero complaints other than not getting an RB but with who we already have as long as we get one next year well be fine i think. staff once again has doen an outstanding job.

Yeah. Alexander would be a nice get but not a must-have. Really the only must-have in my mind is another DT. But Quick would obviously be a great-to-have.

Agreed. Those two guys would fill really the only remaining needs at KR/PR and DT/NG (people seem to be saying that Cage can play zero through three technique, and I agree). If Kelly knocks it out of the park when he meets with Cage today like he did with Quick yesterday then I'll feel pretty good about getting those guys, too.

Yup, hits all needs. Sure, we'll enter season with less than 85 but at least it keeps spots open for a small '15. Nothing you can do about Niklas and GAIII to a lesser degree inexplicably leaving early.

I don't believe that, even if we filled this class, that we would have that small of a class next season. Kids will transfer, kids will go pro, kids will do weird shit to open up spots. It happens every single year. Look how many people left this year that we wouldn't have assumed.

Just another year in a long history of playing under the 85 limit.

The walk-on program is really a help here too. If we do leave two spots unfilled, as it appears we will, Connor Cavalaris will likely get a schollie this year, right? He's been a beast on special teams and he deserves one. Is there another walk on I'm forgetting? Tyler Plantz was on special teams occasionally but I think he is graduating.

... Oh, Connor Little, maybe. He made the two-deep last season after there were a couple injuries. He and Cavalaris are both seniors, so we can reward them with a schollie for one season and then send them on their way before the 2015 class signs.

If you add two more "bodies" just to get to 85 then you are almost guaranteed to be 2 spots short of whatever your number is for '15. It is rather rare that freshman wash out before NSD of the next year. It happens, but it's rare.

We had freshman wash out before the next NSD the last two seasons (EdV, Tee). We also had unknown kids leave for the pros (GA3) and kids transfer (Ferguson for example). We can act like it's rare, but it simply isn't. I would bet my life on the number not being 15 by next year's NSD.
That would be the rare thing, not unknown attrition.

Niklas and GAIII? 2? Nix was gone. Tuitt was iffy, but assuming a 1st-2nd round pick will be back is following the old adage of the word "ass u me." GAIII was kind out of left field. I'm not shocked by Niklas though, and deep down, the staff shouldn't be either.

If any kid is as big/fast/good as reported to be (including reports by BK and the staff themselves), then I think believing 1 or 2 guys may leave early is probably accurate, especially if the kid was a 1 1/2-2+ year starter.

I'll be shocked if ND signs 20 or more next year though.

I'd take Cage and Quick and call it a really good class. I have a good feeling about Garnett though. Juju would make this an amazing class but it just doesn't look like its going to happen. Great job by Denbrock and staff just to be in the race until the end. Should help us in the future if not on Wednesday.

I haven't seen the numbers, but Baylor seems to be heading down this road too.

Back to the team. I am remarkably uplifted by all I hear with the returning injured players. Everyone but Grace seems to be ahead of schedule, and that Grace may even come back with the kind of injury he had, is just amazing!

Here is to hitting it out of the park in '15!

I had the same reaction, it is fantastic to hear that guys like Springmann, Hounshell, Councell, Nick Martin, Randolph and Baratti are all doing so well.

OTOH, Grace was the most important player in that group, with the possible exception of Springmann, so it's a major bummer that his injury was more serious than some of us realized. Hopefully Moore and Deeb can take advantage of their increased reps this spring and make great strides. I'd think they will both be laser-focused, as it's their first chance to be full-time 1s.

which is ironic because Berkley is one of the best schools in the country.

Gonna be honest..nothing new. It's the same we've been hearing for a while. Same thing with guys like Barajas. Pick a player and reiterate the same info.

New Intel...
-Quotes from sources on Tillery being solid. As I've said previously, IMO he is the one guy of the three committed to really watch because he will get so much negative recruiting from a couple angles (Stanford, LSU, etc.) and a ton of pressure to stay home over the next year. He's going to have to stick to his guns. But for now, not really anything at all to worry about per sources.
-Barnett is solid. Basically, every school in the country wants him, and he effectively has an offer from everywhere. That's just the way it goes when you have an elite QB committed, but there is no reason at all to believe he's not on campus next January as long as nothing happens to Kelly.
-Riggs will play corner.
-New Ol prospect ND is evaluating is Tyler Jordan from Florida.
-Some info on other junior prospects... one thing that stuck out is that Justin Tranquill may get an offer at junior day. Justin said that Diaco didn't want to recruit him because Bob wanted all his players over 6' tall. BVG has told him he's just looking for ball players and doesn't have any "must be this big" limits. So Tranquill could be offered for either side of the ball... your quintessential "athlete."
