Worst case scenario for an 11-1 ND is undefeated/Big 12 champ TCU, 11-1 ACC champ Clemson and Alabama and Georgia meeting undefeated in the SEC title game. Unless Georgia somehow rolls, making us look better than Bama by the transitive property, they all get in ahead of us.

What's the list of 1-loss teams out there that people think would get in over 11-1 ND? Obviously tough to predict who will win conference divisions, but IMO:

12-1 Clemson
12-1 Ohio State
12-1 OU
12-1 Bama
12-1 PSU (probably to avoid shutting them out again although I think we'd have the better resume)
12-1 Michigan (won't happen)

unsure of 12-1 Georgia with a loss to Bama

Don't bet on it. Playing Jackson State as TCU did would hurt them. Committee puts heavy emphasis on the schedule you play.

They also put heavy emphasis on conference championships though. I think an undefeated conference champ basically gets an auto-invite. It's not like TCU wouldn't have any good wins. They would have beaten OK State, OU, and Texas who is playing much better now. We definitely should be rooting for them to lose a game. If its a one loss TCU, then ND gets in I think.

Yes but an ND team that finishes 11-1 and beats perhaps the best teams in the ACC and Pac 12 will be treated as a conference winner even if we aren't in a conference. But I really expect at the end of the day Bama will be the only undefeated team left standing. Everyone else will likely have a loss on their resume.

Definitely agree on Clemson and Bama, probably OU, too. People won't forget what they did to Ohio State, and will beat TCU, too.

I don't think a Pac-12 team (Washington?) makes it in that scenario because if we only have one loss, we've beaten USC and Stanford and diluted their SOS. Same with any ACC team other than Clemson.

I don't know if a one-loss Big Ten team gets in ahead of us. Probably depends on our SOS and how the Big Ten shakes out. Ohio State's and Penn State's best wins would be each other and... a Wisconsin team no one really thinks is good anyway?

I don't know how we get in over a one-loss Georgia though, assuming that loss is close to a good team.

Most important thing for us is winning all our games (Duh). And having our SOS hold up in the second half of the season. NC State (or Miami) and USC (or Stanford) losing to us but winning their conferences would be huge.

OU meaning Oklahoma? Don't think so. They lost to Iowa State. We lost to Georgia.

Clemson - probably but shouldn't with a loss to unranked Syracuse and we lost by 1 to Georgia
Ohio State - if Big Ten champs with only loss to Oklahoma...yes
Oklahoma - shouldn't with the loss to Iowa State and close loss to Texas and Baylor
Bama - yes
PSU - tough call because both would have good wins and depends on their loss
Michigan - no way, common opponent is we beat them AT HOME by 20 and scum lost AT HOME plus our SOS would be stronger
Georgia - tough call depends on how close the loss is to Bama

Committee cares more about who you beat than who you lost to.

They'd have wins over Ohio State, TCU, OK State and then I'd imagine one of WVU/TT ends the year ranked. Then they'd have the second conf champ win over TCU or maybe OK State depending how the conf ends up. They'd also get the conf champion bonus.

We'd have USC, Miami, Stanford, NC State, Mich State. It would be very close and could come down to just how high that Ohio State finishes the season. I've always thought 6 teams would be best for the playoff. A 12-1 OU missing the playoffs would help...

The Sooners won't play TCU until after the Miami game. Assuming the team takes care of business, that's 3 top 25 wins in a row, one being on the road. I'm not sure that will be enough for OU to leapfrog the Irish with a W over TCU

I'd love an 8-team playoff, because ND is a shoe-in at 10-2.

However, that ruins like 75% of the interest in tracking the trends and interesting aspects of other games during the year.

Some dude just donated $100 million to ND, pending his death. Apparently it's extra-unique because there are no 'here's how you should spend it' stipulations.

Can't embed. Thoughts?

Well I needed to do something with the money. Not concerned with how they use it.

A nationally televised daily mass from the Cathedral --- sorry to write something serious, but it's a pet peeve of mine that the Flagship Catholic University doesn't already do this.

I'd like to see a commitment to making graduates of ND loan free like some ivies do it. If they could challenge a few other big donors to cough up big donations to add to this they could do it. If financial aid improved ND's cache would improve and we'd move up the all important USNWR rankings

Does the new Joyce Center/ Purcell Pavilion have a student activity center inside? Like a place for the students to go work-out, play in-door basketball, run/jog, lift weights, etc.?

I'd stand and cheer forgiving student debt for graduates of ND. There are a few things that a true civilized society should do, and eliminating barriers to student success is one of them. Since we can't get the nation to step up on this, Notre Dame should at least do their part.

ND will never do it. That would mean giving away perfectly good money, and they're not in the business of doing that.

I heard they are actually doing this right now, or at least putting in basketball courts. With the basketball teams getting Rolf's, they're putting a new student center in the west Crossroads building, but from the renderings it looks like there will only be one full sized basketball court while Rolf's had 3 and an indoor soccer court and thats where most students played basketball. So it looks like they're turning what was mostly open space in the north dome of the JACC into basketball courts. There is also the Volleyball practice court there and the fencing area, but I can see them moving Volleyball into the Pit when basketball moves out and just building a wall around the fencing area. They could also open up the athlete weight room that is there once the football team gets their own and it leaves more open time slots in the Gug.
