I misread your other post, was considering quality of the show. Although I do enjoy GOT very much. It's funny, hardly anyone I work with or am friends with actually watch the show, so it just doesn't feel that significant to me. I'm sure that's more of a generational/cultural thing where I'm at. It's obviously all over the internet.

This is fair, this is where my bias kicks in. I experience discussions at work, amongst friends, family and on here. It's the only show I've ever watched that had this kind of following. I assumed it was similar for everyone since the social media aspect of it makes it feel like "the world is watching".

Lots of good shows but this one was set up to be considered the GOAT and now it's just another show.

Lol. I'm sure you have a really great list of shows you love but GOTs has been the most popular show ever. I've never seen a show dominate popular culture/workplace discussions, etc like GOT.

I loved The Wire, first season of True Detective and Newsroom but none of those beat GOT in viewership.

LOST did. Everything little thing in the show was analyzed. And all without source material like books to get from.

I enjoy GoT a lot. But for me, and looking at a few top100 TV shows lists, it barely scratches the top10 of all time.

There were plenty of shows that exceeded GoT viewership, and a lot were from the 80s lol.

I have a very slim hope that this is all a setup from the writers and tonight and next week are going to end in a way that satisfies every one. But its fading fast.

Thrilled that Mad Queen is confirmed, I just hope some day I get to read GRRM's version of it.

I've been more positive about the season than most. This episode sucked. Mad Queen Dany just waayyyyyy too rushed. Nothing from the Golden Company. Tyrion sucked (as usual since season 6). The battles were boring. Guess this was a great episode though if you love SFX.

Clegane Bowl + Arya presumably running off to Gendry were the onyl good parts of this episode IMO.

Edit: Nvm about Arya just saw the preview.

I don't agree with how this went down but I think how it went down was executed well.

No one killing Cersei is BS though.

Absolutely awful send off for Jaime.

Some good and bad in that episode... overall just ready for the show to be over.

I thought Arya would be going after Dany. Need to see the preview. Looks like they finally figured out how to use a dragon effectively.

I thought it was a good episode, but if that’s how they actually kill off Jaime and Cersei, what in the fuck that is idiotic.

I don't think we needed 20 minutes of Arya running around. Hate the Jaimie and Cersei send off. Jon should have just killed Grey Worm 1v1.

Loved most of the rest. It was intense and I didn't feel anyone was safe.

The problem is in the pacing before this episode which made this episode feel like it came out of nowhere. But the episode itself was good.

Also the spoilers that were posted last week were spot on which means next week is going to be an absolute disaster of an ending.

The Bad:
- RIP Jaime’s redemption. I get it that he couldn’t let go of his love, and the unborn child probably had a lot to do with it, but still. If that’s the way GRRM goes, he’ll at least write a bunch of evidence about Jaime unraveling. The show just expected us to accept that he couldn’t overcome his love.
- Where the hell was Dany’s dragon-riding strategy two episodes ago? She was a master today, but not like three weeks ago?
- I wish they could have found a way to have the fighting and the drama take up most of the episode, prior to the bells ringing, then show Dany breaking and burning innocents for the last ten mins. Cleganebowl as the climax as the Red Keep fell didn’t feel quite right, though it was cool. RIP Sandor.

The Good:
- The special effects (ignore how terrible it looked as Harry Strickland ran back towards the city before Greyworm ended him). Drogon just pwning shit looked great, as did the visuals when he would swoop low and pick up speed.
- Sandor going out like a boss.
- Arya and Sandor’s goodbye, followed by Arya being our main eyes through the horror of The Mad Queen.
- The Mad Queen. Everything she wanted and spent 8 seasons pouting about was right there. THE BELLS WERE RINGING. But the coin finally fell, and it fell on “Burn Them All.” She saw the culmination of her journey as the bells rang, and it broke her.
- Varys being the most correct man in the history of Westeros. “I don’t yet know how her coin will fall... But I know yours.”
- Jon might not take the throne, but he’s gonna kill Dany. It is known.
- Just another props to Drogon burning things. Looked great and really felt like a flying death machine in this one.

Laughing at the thousands of parents in the last few years (just in the US alone) that named their daughters Khaleesi. A literal war criminal.

Very rushed. Not terrible. 6/10.

Really wish that Cersei had some sort of plan with the WF after the gates were breached just to show SOME resistance.

Good way for the Hound to go. Jamie deserved a better send off. No one kills Cersei? 50 giant crossbows that were useless, but I get it. Literally laughed when the Mountain just threw Qyburn down the steps. Great cinematography, CGI.

Minus a remarkable turnaround in the last hour and a half, I can safely say this is likely going to be my lasting impression:

Season 1-2- Almost everything is excellent minus a few niggles. Incredible adaptation of a fantasy series.
Season 3-4 - Seasons that like to waste airtime and meander toward their finales, while saving all the big moments for late in the season. Script is a bit sloppier because its clear the writers are trying to hide the ball but the big moments still hit harder than anything else on television.
Seasons 5-6 - Mediocre writing with some excellent battle scenes, sets, and costumes. Writing has declined significantly but is still buoyed by the money being flushed in. Character traits are now either flanderized or forgotten completely when not convenient for the plot. Rules within the set world such as travel time and social structure begin to break down.
Season 7 - Shit.
Season 8 - Shit on fire.

You know, I thought when Jaime said he was filled with hate just like Cersei, it meant he now hated her and was going to do what needed to be done. NOPE.

Why are the writers/directors obsessed with filming Arya doing pretty much nothing? Not to mention she has the thickest plot armor I've ever seen.

Clegane bowl happened at least.

I'm okay with Dany becoming mad but it's all happened so quickly that it seems forced.

Goodbye Varys, you were one of the characters that made this show good...at least in the past.

Mad King: My children had been recently killed, I was hearing voices, and I was betrayed by my hand while I was about to lose the Iron Throne. Everyone who I thought was loyal to me was marching on my keep when I finally mentally snapped.

Dany: I had just won the seven kingdoms and had fought the final battle without a major casualty toward anyone I was close to. Everything went exactly as planned and the city fell peacefully without any major structural damage beyond the outer wall.. But I hate bells.

Also I'm glad the showrunners were able to download the latest patch into Total War: Warhammer because the ballistas got nerfed something fierce between Episode 5 and Episode 6.

Also Jaime's final episode he talks about how he never really cared about the innocent, only Cersei. Fuck me with a rake D&D never even understood the character.

The Mad King burned the Ned's dad and brother alive before the Rebellion...

Also Dany just saw 2 of her "children" die, her lover, Hand, and spymaster "betray" her, and her closest friend in the world as a last request before she was murdered asked her to burn the city down. Plus yknow, she already burned Dickon...

I will always be hung up on Bran's storyline. He told Jon R + L = J (something Sam could have accomplished by just reading a book) and was bait (still why? wtf?) for the NK. Pointless build up for next to nothing.

Yeah, the Mad King burned Ned's dad and brother without real cause because he was paranoid. That was a great warning sign that he was crazy because they were powerful lords of an incredibly important house and the situation was quickly escalated to an insane level over a relatively minor disagreement involving a woman.

Dany killed Dickon and Varys with plenty of cause. Tywin and any other number of stable, calculating lords would have done the same thing. Shit even Ned probably would've killed both of them at wartime. Dickon was a Lord who was captured and openly refused to recognize her legitimacy. Varys was a spymaster who was actively trying to usurp her rule by stirring a rebellion. This is not crazy. This is super normal Lord/King/Queen shit that we've seen before.

Ok so now we have her two "children" dying. Weird, she didn't seem crazy after it happened. She was honestly more concerned about Missandei and spoke of the dragons after they died more as lost war assets than anything.

So her handmaiden dying an episode and an entire battleplan ago and Jon and Tyrion both mildly pissing her off earlier in the week are the cause of her deciding to burn down this universe's New York City. Freaking A+ chaps. Keep in mind the character doing this is the same character that literally locked away her "children" in an underground vault for a season because one of them BBQ'd a random shepherd girl.

As a long-time Mad Queen theorist, I should be pleased, but the writing is grade A certified garbage at this point.

For any old enough to remember this is gonna go off next week. Channeling the Bibby Ewing shower scene and the Newhart bed scene.

Ned Stark wakes up one morning to discuss the wild ass dream he had and swears off late night pepperoni pizza ever again.

This season save for a few scenes here and there sucks donkey balls. Where is Bron? Where is Theon’s sister? Either Tyrean as the latest Lannister to be hand to a Targarean kills her a la Jamie or aerya will put her little sword thru her.
