The Bad:
- RIP Jaime’s redemption. I get it that he couldn’t let go of his love, and the unborn child probably had a lot to do with it, but still. If that’s the way GRRM goes, he’ll at least write a bunch of evidence about Jaime unraveling. The show just expected us to accept that he couldn’t overcome his love.
- Where the hell was Dany’s dragon-riding strategy two episodes ago? She was a master today, but not like three weeks ago?
- I wish they could have found a way to have the fighting and the drama take up most of the episode, prior to the bells ringing, then show Dany breaking and burning innocents for the last ten mins. Cleganebowl as the climax as the Red Keep fell didn’t feel quite right, though it was cool. RIP Sandor.
The Good:
- The special effects (ignore how terrible it looked as Harry Strickland ran back towards the city before Greyworm ended him). Drogon just pwning shit looked great, as did the visuals when he would swoop low and pick up speed.
- Sandor going out like a boss.
- Arya and Sandor’s goodbye, followed by Arya being our main eyes through the horror of The Mad Queen.
- The Mad Queen. Everything she wanted and spent 8 seasons pouting about was right there. THE BELLS WERE RINGING. But the coin finally fell, and it fell on “Burn Them All.” She saw the culmination of her journey as the bells rang, and it broke her.
- Varys being the most correct man in the history of Westeros. “I don’t yet know how her coin will fall... But I know yours.”
- Jon might not take the throne, but he’s gonna kill Dany. It is known.
- Just another props to Drogon burning things. Looked great and really felt like a flying death machine in this one.
