Man I was going to be upset that Jon's arc amounted to nothing, but now that someone has theorized that he distracted a dragon from seeing someone off screen who was apparently able to sneak past everyone else without trouble or explanation anyway, I feel fulfilled.

Can't wait to hear his full title and honors now:

Aegon Targaryen: Fourth of his name, Reborn, King of the North, Distraction of Dragons.

I'm a GoT homer so my take migth be a bit over the top, but...

Without Jon, the army of the dead would have had every single Wildling, the northern houses aren't united, the Boltons still hold Winterfell (with a lil help from Sansa), Dany doesn't bring her Dragons, Dothraki, and Unsullied to protect the North. He's never been an elite warrior/killer and he hates ruling. Not to mention, Arya, the killer of the NK, doesn't even go to Winterfell if she didn't hear that Jon won the Battle of the Bastards.

Don't think his arc is defined by not killing the NK, and we still got 4 hours of episodes left.

Side note, how mad is everyone gonna be when there isn't another big battle? I'm expecting some treachery similar to the Red Wedding rather than a big battle, either by Euron or Tyrion.

https://www.theringer.com/game-of-t...n-8-complexity-george-rr-martin-benioff-weiss

On the one hand, the showrunners met with Martin in his Santa Fe home in 2013 to learn “how everything ends,” as Benioff told Vanity Fair. “We just sat down with him and literally went through every character.” From this meeting, Benioff and Weiss learned, for instance, of three “holy shit moments” that Martin had planned: Shireen’s death by burning, Hodor’s name etymology, and a third yet-to-be-revealed surprise.

On the other hand, Benioff explained after Sunday’s episode that the pair had known Arya would kill the Night King for “probably three years now.” That means this massive development was not Martin’s third shocker but rather a TV invention (as was the actual character of the Night King). It also means some moments that now seem like effective foreshadowing—such as Melisandre’s “brown eyes, blue eyes, green eyes … eyes you’ll shut forever” line to Arya back in Season 3—appear as such only in retrospect, and weren’t prepared with this climax in mind.

Yara is gonna show up with Daario Naharis and a bunch of ships full of sellswords and former slaves to help turn the tide of battle outside the city walls and on the Blackwater... Cersei's forces and the Golden Company will be dispatched without much fanfare.

The drama will happen when Cersei refuses to give up the Throne or open the gates of the city, and threatens to burn thousands of innocents with wildfire.

The penultimate episode (or the early part of the finale) will turn into an intense rescue mission, where Dany instructs her forces to save as many people as possible, while a select crew of heroes (Jon, Clegane, Arya, Jaime, Brienne) brave the green flames and chaos to storm the Red Keep and face down the Kingsguard and the Mountain.

Brienne, Arya and Clegane all die in order to take out the Mountain.

Jaime is fighting Euron, and about to strike a killing blow, but Cersei SHOOTS AND KILLS HIM with the crossbow she gave Bronn, which he leaves behind when he goes to find and save Tyrion amidst the chaos.

As Jaime and Euron both die, and Jon confronts Cersei, Sansa calmly walks straight for the throne as the world burns around her, and sticks Cersei with the pointy end... Sansa is ALSO a volanqar to Cersei, and the prophecy will be fulfilled.

Sansa tells Jon that the throne is his, while Rhaegal crashes in through the roof of the throne room to rescue them both before the fire claims them.

I don't think so. If you're referring to the baby scene, I'm pretty sure that was a situation where he was doing some spell or ritual. It's like how Melisandre could cause things to catch on fire if she took her time and went through the formalities of doing witchcraft, but not everything she touches bursts into flames.

Maybe, the baby scene was not the only case of his touch turning things to WW though... correct? Anyway, who knows but it was something I noticed...

Would be kinda cool if Cersei instructs QyBURN to hide under Kings Landing during the battle and if Cersei loses the throne that he is to ignite the wildfire and burn the city to the ground. ---- a character dies trying to stop him and a character dies as they sit on the throne...

I bet the big surprise is Bran's ultimate role... One option could be something like his being the true villain the entire time, or having more control over everything that has happened than previous believed. How About: With the WW threat taken care of Bran kills Arya at the beginning of the next episode, letting the world know that HIS Game of Thrones was always between he and the NK... and now that he won he has no use for his former family/allies....

Bran is why they got through the wall though. Regardless of wight dragon or not they were getting through the wall because once Bran was marked AND went south of the wall, the magic the wall had was gone. So really, selfish move by Bran/3ER to go south of the wall.

One thing I may be reading completely too much into, but in the preview we see that they are still burning bodies of their dead. It’s probably an insignificant plot point and just the simplest way with so many, but maybe the threat of wights/ white walkers isn’t completely over.

I would love the "oh shit" moment to be something related to Bran but sadly I'm not sure D&D have the wherewithal. Bran sucks now and his entire character arc from the beginning just doesn't have the payoff I was hoping for.

I bet Bran doesn't have 3 more scenes the rest of the season.

Think it’s more likely we get an oh shit moment from Howland Reed than Bran... GRRM was quoted as saying the reason Howland Reed doesn’t have any POV chapters in the books is because he knows too much.

my guesses

jon kills DT
bran mind blowing explanation of the whole thing or bran howland reed tie in
tyrion is a targ
ned is alive and has been chilling on a little neck island with howland and the crannogmen
arya goes evil
JL and CL are both targs
sansa goes evil and kills jon
varys has a deeper past than we think, and end up on the throne because he's the only one that has truly served the kingdom

In the books. I don’t think GRRM knows wtf he’s doing post Red Wedding and I’ll bet he uses the show to help him finish the books, including adding what they left out while scrapping what didn’t work,... HR included... my best guess is the show completely ingnores him

My bet is on Varys. I think there's a good chance that he's been the puppet master of the entire thing all along and ends up on the throne or at least is the one who decides who sits on it. If Varys ends up on the throne, I think there's also a good chance that we discover his entire story about being mutilated and turned into a eunuch was a lie and he actually has all his original cash & prizes.

I laughed looking aback at the last few weeks... it went from "It's moving too slow, when is something going to happen, there isn't enough time to show everything!" to "It's over, wtf are they going to fill the last few episodes with now?" in one episode....

Those aren't inconsistent though.
