Latest forecast now has a high of 19 tomorrow in Indy. Was supposed to hover around zero. They’re predicting 50’s this weekend and 60 on Monday or Tuesday. Crazy

Sub zero here in Pennsylvania right now...Got the wood stove packed with oak slab wood...she's burning hot and the furnace won't have a chance to turn on until a little bit tomorrow morning before I get up to get it burning again.

Did it during the 2014 polar vortex. Also worked with hot chocolate except you got a brown cloud.

Word of warning for anyone trying it later, throw it away from you and downwind. There were too many stories of people throwing it straight up or into the wind and some part of it that is still liquid coming back and burning the person.

Sounds like a problem a good washing machine can fix

Yea It was close to the same here with windchill. Thank God we smartened up and called everyone off until tomorrow.

Meanwhile in SE MI, where the windchill is -40, our local gas distributor, Consumers Energy, send an emergency alert to our cell phones last night asking everyone to lower their heat to 65 until tomorrow evening due to a fire that broke out at one of their plants yesterday. They're concerned about supply if the consumption output remains where it's been the past 36 hours.

Pure *uckin' Michigan.

My favorite take is that these record low temperatures are because of global warming.

Out of curiosity, I looked up the lowest recorded temp in the contiguous states. Montana holds the record at -70 back in 1954.

My favorite take is that these record low temperatures are because of global warming.

Rising sea temperatures and diminishing polar ice disrupt the usual flow of polar air, thus resulting in more-frequently 'extreme' polar vortexes, particularly when the predictable vortex "splits."

Stated as a verifiable fact, without political intent.

Got a phone call that my tenant's furnace wasn't working yesterday at 6am. Messed with it all day, changed some parts and then realized the exterior air duct was clogged with ice and snow. Fun stuff.

Really. I understand that the alleged "general warming trend" comes with peaks and valleys, but one thing you don't get in a "general warming trend" is all time record lows.

Dude, please don't engage in science denialism. It's unbecoming.

Local weather isn't climate anymore than the fact that you ate this morning is representative of hunger in Africa.

Here's an article explaining how this sort of arctic blast is tied to climate change:

It's crazy, but a warming trend can create record lows by the warming trend's effect on polar weather patterns.

Cooky stuff!

So we should brace for Winter? The time the sun Is closest to the Earth?

Looks like winter is refusing to let go. I heard on the news some places may get as much as 40" of snow. South Bend is projected to be right on the fringe of the storm.

Strong storm. We were in the mid 90's on Tuesday & Wednesday and then the 30 mph winds came in for 24hrs and cooled it down to the low 70's. I literally had to wear a hoodie to a jobsite this morning. It got real hear quick.

That's some tough sledding. We're only hitting 80 today. May throw on my parka.

Comedian Bob Marley (Maine) calls this bullshit weather. Living in the northeast isn't paradise and I would move tomorrow if I could to Texas or North Carolina, but if I lived in the midwest and got a blizzard in April I would GTFO. Fast.

It's mostly the western upper MW getting hit, but I would imagine this is something of an anomaly and not a regular thing for them.

Whatever. The wind is the only thing that sucks. This time of year the snow will melt away quickly.

It's snowing this morning at my house in The Black Hills of SD. It's 38 so it won't accumulate, but still. Two days ago it was sunny and almost 70, we had hail yesterday and a little snow today. Tomorrow we're expecting locusts and the rivers to run with blood.
