My house got over a foot of snow and tomorrow's high is 9 degrees (not windchill). I'm currently stuck at the airport in DC and am scheduled to get home at 1:30am. I left my hotel at 11am this morning for the airport.

I'm contemplating setting this airport on fire and living the rest of my days as a bum on the mean streets of DC...

I feel you, man. Back in the day when I traveled regularly, I had some vicious layovers. For about three months I figured I had between three and four hours of layovers for every hour of flight time! I hope it gets better.

Temps were in the mid - upper 50s this morning when I left for work, but calling for highs around 30 later this week. I have no idea where my damn winter coat is.

As a native Southerner who now lives in Siberia, I have to agree. I get tired of all the snow and the 6 months of winter we get here in the Black Hills of SD, but I can live with this better than I can the relentless heat & humidity of the deep South.

I just don't get people who complain about the weather here...live w/in 20 min of ND...

My big thing is that if I am cold, I can put on a long sleeve shirt, hoodie, sweater, blanket and be warm easy. When I am hot, I can only take off a certain amount of items before people call the police. And/Or then I am also stuck indoors where ever I find A/C.

I should add the caveat though that it's not MUCH better. -20 before windchill gets discouraging, but fortunately that's fairly rare and mostly you're dealing with ~+20 degrees, which is pretty comfortable with a good coat and hat setup.

Grew up in "Michiana" so I am pretty well used to colder weather. Now living in eastern Colorado (see Kansas). It was 70 a couple of days ago. 60ish yesterday when the cold front came through. High in the low 20's today, highs in the teens tomorrow. Still take it over the humidity and heat of Florida that I lived in for a couple of years. Love the dry air around here.

Personally, I think the worst thing about a place is topography. Love me some hills and mountains. The fact that Florida is literally flatter than a pancake (Science: Several U.S. States, Led by Florida, Are Flatter Than a Pancake - The Atlantic) would be the worst thing about it for me.

Florida really is the pits. It was nice living there for a few years because I basically lived AT Walt Disney World, but the heat, humidity, sun bleaching, flatness, palm trees, shitty grass, and stucco box houses got old FAST.

I've never lived in the south so maybe I'm wrong here, but can't you enjoy the outdoors, even in the hottest months, in the morning and evening?

I do nothing outdoors during the winter months. Except shovel snow, of course. It's just brutal. I'll take extreme heat from 7 to 7 if I can run/lift outside in the morning and BBQ in a pair of shorts in the evening 365 days a year.

It's not always hot in the South, even in August, just like it's not always -10 in the North in January. Normally it's cooler in the mornings and evenings, but occasionally it will be sweltering 24 hours/day.
