You're very welcome and why not use your examples, it's easier that way. Btw, I prefer Cadillac over Dodge. I wholly understand Floyd has had several alcohol related offenses and I lump MIPs with most minor drug related offenses for possession of marijuana, larceny, etc., most of which, you pay a fine and that's that (MIPs are handed out like hooker cards on the Vegas Strip). You might be surprised at the number of players that test positive for marijuana, steroids, or get caught for underage drinking. It's luck of the draw with respect to who catches you. If caught or tested by the university, it is handled internally and we rarely hear a thing (institutional probation, extra running, early curfew, random drug testing). One DUI is also not enough to warrant a lengthy suspension. A repeat offense (second DUI) is another story, but one is not enough. Battery, and assault and battery, which are also very common (fight at a bar, frat house, club) I also consider to be minor, unless someone is seriously injured, or the offense is repeated, showing a propensity for violent behavior. Any burglary, robbery, sexual battery, DV, rape, A&B with a deadly weapon, manslaughter, murder or any other offense that causes serious bodily injury to another, then goodnight. The criminal justice system tends to agree with me on the severity of two MIPs and a latter DUI. Most offenders get a fine and temp license suspension and this is often true for a second DUI offense, throw in some community service.

I agree that Kelly will handle it appropriately and that's why I'm giving him props. A one game suspension may be warranted, but others have vilified Floyd, Kelly and the University for not doing more. If we lose to USF we will get crucified in the polls, but again, I do agree that we should beat them without Floyd. Notwithstanding, Floyd is very important to our success. He doesn't deserve the severity of what some want and wish to so willingly dish out. Kelly has a very competent understanding of the modern day athlete, and I'm completely on board with his decision, whatever it might be.

As another poster pointed out, "everything in the off-season is ridiculous!"

Cheers L.A.

This is getting so ridiculously redundant; I feel like punching myself for reading this ****.

He's coming back early fellas. Get over the backseat driving: No suspended games, and mucho touchdowns.

He dealt with Res Life. He was suspended all Spring. That was his punishment OTHER than legal ramifications.

True.

He is a college student/athlete. He is a young kid. He should not have to deal with multiple punishments. He is not in the military and subject to UCMJ actions. Take his license for 6 months, pay restituition, work community service, he alreay served his suspension, and then leave him alone.

Lets see who has done worse; Kobe Bryant- rapeo, Michael Vick- dog killer, Burress- brandishing a weapon, so to get pulled over for drinking a shot of potent alcohol, out of all the bad things he could of done, IT IS NOT THAT BAD. Everyone wants to play judge and jury, but we dont know what his tolerance for alcohol is, he probably was in complete control of his facilities, we dont know. Leave the kid alone and cheer him on.

Once upon a time in West Virginia there were a bunch of guys who liked to holler at one another at the top of their lungs. The rest of the people got the sheriff to take them up the crick valley and let it out there [this, by the way, is why such hollows are called "hollers" in the Mountain State].

I s'pose one could say that there were hollow, hallow hallahs in the hollers.

Then again, maybe one shouldn't say it.

There is no doubt that our QBs job is substantially easier having Floyd out there. IE Rees' reliance on him to beat Miami.

I think I've seen Rees tweet recently that he was going to work out/throw with Floyd and a few of the other WRs that are still around South Bend.

Hmm depends on where the DUI's happen. Don't come to Arizona and get them, especially in Maricopa County. For extreme DUI (.15 and higher for which MF had), it is a minimum of 10 days in jail and up to 30 days in jail and for a 2nd extreme DUI it is 60-120 days).

Now for a regular DUI .08-.15 it is 1-10 days for first offense and 30-90 for the 2nd offense.

So remember that DUI punishments vary from place to place drastically.

On that note I think a one game suspension or even 2 games is probably fair.

i'd say most guys stick around in the summer to work out in the first place so this shouldn't be a surprise.

I agree it is not the worst thing in the world but we are nd and I dont want to be a florida or miami or usc or even close I want mike floyd back as soon as possible but lets not think of this for our own good but for the good of the university and the good of floyd

I'm ok with whatever Kelly does with this going forward, even if it is re-instatement to the team with no games suspended.

I think Kelly will only re-instate if he believes Floyd truly understands the significance of the alcohol issues and has taken the necessary actions to prevent future issues.

I believe the suspension from the team, even for the spring, is significant. If this had happened later in the year (now for example) he would miss a lot of games because the process of understanding and reconciling the behavior is a function of time, not a function of time of the year. I would be surprised if Kelly is influenced by how many games Floyd misses, only by the process of steps needed to influence and correct the irresponsible behavior.

Again, if he misses 0 games then that's okay with me because I trust Kelly to do what's best for Floyd, with no consideration for Notre Dame football. I did some pretty dumb stuff at that age, just lucky Barney went to bed at 9:00.

Per 24/7 Interview with BK, sounds like there is a good chance Floyd misses no games. Just contigent upon him. Per BK, "He's all in, or all out".

I got that tweet and that's the assumption I was thinking of too that it sounded that he may not miss anything if he follows all the guidelines that Coach puts in place for him.

If he does miss no games I hope the media doesn't jump on it.

.....great news for ND fans though if that is the case

I read the article not the tweet, for clarification.

Thanks.

“We’re looking at Mike as an ‘all in or not’ situation,” Kelly told the South Bend Tribune. “ In other words, he’s changing his life or he’s not. If he changes the way he’s lived his life, he’ll play every game for us. If he doesn’t, he won’t play one down here at Notre Dame.

“He is at that level. This is not, ‘I’m going to slap you on the hand and sit you for two games’ — because I don’t want to read about him in a year, where it says, ‘Ex-Notre Dame player arrested for X-Y-Z.’ That will be a failing on my part if that happens.”

BK is making Floyd either accept and develop a new lifestyle by habit or not make a lifestyle change period. In some sick twisted, yet genius, way I think BK knows Floyd will falter if he is not 100% accepting to the idea. Which in BK mind is a matter of time.

I LOVE WHAT BK IS DOING!!!!

To say this puts us on the level of the SEC, Miami and USC is stupid. How many kids on those teams can a coach say, "You eff up again your out!" and they don't?

I dunno. I kinda think he should still get a 1 game suspension, it just seems like shallow lip service to me, but then again..what do I know?

Great way to handle the situation by Kelly. Far above what many other programs would do.

If we heard Jimbo Fisher give the same speech..we'd all be very skeptical. Maybe he is trying a new approach...maybe he just wants his stud in the game to win. Who knows? It just rubs me the wrong way, he sounds like a politician.

I'm going to the opener, so even though I have always said I would have no problem being suspended, this is great news b/c if he does the right thing the team will be at full strength and I'll be able to watch one of the greatest receivers in ND history in person one last time...

If he does miss no games I hope the media doesn't jump on it.

Fat chance bro. It's ND, and it's our best player; the national media will be ALL OVER this. Brace yourself. Or just do what I do when this crap happens...ignore any and all other teams' fan sites - it gets brutal and the misinformation will blow your mind and make you want to strangle someone.

It's all on you now Floyd!!!

Great news.

Kelly is a complete genius. By that statement, he totally takes away the power of the haters. Its just a very intelligent way of going about it. Announcing now, that he will either play all or nothing just makes so much sense!

I love Kelly! :)
