Right, the only reason I pointed out that it is customary was to nip some overreaction in the bud. I could see people coming with the "he hasn't learned his lesson!!" and "he isn't even contrite!!" posts based on the fact that he pleaded not guilty, but as a general rule you NEVER plead guilty unless as a formality when taking a deal. This is just a formality to keep the process moving while they work on a deal (I assume that is what the end game is for Michael).

"If found guilty of the Class A misdemeanor, Floyd faces a maximum sentence of a year in jail."

How much of chance is this?

Not a chance. I am sure he has a good lawyer. I only see probation and maybe an alcohol class if he hasn't already voluntarily went to one.

Great! It was posted before that Jail time wasn't possible, but when I saw that...it freaked me out.
Thanks

Floyd has zero chance of going to jail. I'm sure he will have a decent lawyer. He is a kid in college and about to graduate, judges like that kind of stuff. I'm sure he will get some kind of unsupervised probation. Probably lose his license for a year and pay a fine.

according to II. Sampson talked to a couple very good sources around the program and they expect Brian Kelly to reinstate Michael Floyd this summer or even before to rejoin the team for offseason workouts. Decision could come sooner than expected. boom

Because as Notre Dame we are supposed to have morals. Our players are supposed to be held to high standards and be punished for going against them. No discipline would contradict one of the things that makes us different from most colleges.

How do you know that? You are totally and completely disregarding the Res Life decision and integrity and Kellys decision and integrity.
You, obviously, know much better on how Floyd should be handled and you know exactly that he should be punished. When was the last time you spoke with him?
You ASSUME it contradicts what makes us different. Actually, what makes us different, is we actually caring about our players more than what the media, and fans like you, will say.
If you cared about Floyd as a person, more than you care about how ND will be looked at, you might see this is what is best for him.

It is obvious that ND will be bashed for this and all the haters will whiny like cats at night "oh now ND is just like the Big 10" "bleh bleh blah"...etc Obviously Kelly and Co know this.
This in itself, tells me that they are doing what is best for Michael Floyd, rather than care about what the media says about Notre Dame.

People seem to be forgetting that this isn't the first time that something like this has happened with him. I love the guy as a receiver, but the university is certainly sending the wrong message to everyone without disciplining him. Had this been the first time he had gotten in trouble with anything regarding alcohol consumption, then yes, I'd completely agree with letting him play the full season. However, as much as I would love to see him on the field, he knew exactly what he was getting himself into and should be made an example of. I guarantee that if this were someone like Austin Collinsworth or Alex Welch, there would be no talk at all of him playing the full regular season. If I were Kelly, I would suspend Floyd two games.

Did you ever have a beer when you were in your 20s? Were you already world famous and have your vacation filmed on nationwide internet? He has already been suspended from football.

"Make an example of him?" Folks sometimes beg for righteousness, to the point of self righteousness, yet demand "making an example" of someone, so that internet posters will not complain? Well, may those self righteous ones be made an example of. On the World Wide Web.

Hell, I was cited for "running a stop sign." The officer wrote on the ticket "Traveling less than one mile an hour through an intersection." He then described my vehicle as "blue" (it was white) and on the ticket he wrote an address that was two miles west.

He did not show up for court.

Luke 18:9-14 (New International Version)

The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector
9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’

13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

No need to get personal. I am just stating my opinion that is obviously against yours. Im just saying this is nit this guys first offense. Yes it may be best for his future to play this whole season. That way he can really showcase his talent and move on to a nice spot in the NFL. But think of the future of the family without a mom or a dad. A set of parents who lost their kid all because he decides to do this again and ends up killing someone. Am I Brian Kelly? no Am I a big shot at ND? no Am I someone who knows Floyd personally? no I just an onlooker who has seen his past seen how it was handled and seen where it got him. This is my opinion and why I believe it. If you dont like it give me your side and we can discuss it on this "discussion board" There is no reason to get personal.

I will be perfectly happy if Kelly decides that Mike Floyd has done all his due-diligence in the "off season". and reinstates him cleanly for August practices. That will mean, to me, that this is a decision which was reached after a lot of thought, conversation, and observation --- and without regard for public relations.

A Floyd suspension is a bad move. Floyd missing games punishes the player and the team. The team does not deserve that. They deserve their all-American wide out. Floyd's penalty for self reflection should be all day Sundays picking up trash on the side of the road reflecting if he wants to go to the NFL - which stands for "Not For Long if you keep boozing it up Floyd!" or waste away. Make him a part of DD PSA's. Don't care, but Let the kid play. Don't punish the team. But make it very uncomfortable off the filed. Very uncomfortable. Do the right thing Coach.

Bring back Floyd

Neither one of you guys got personal. Just stated an opinion.

Well, I am the son of an orphan, no grandparents, so it takes no imagination.

We would all like to win another championship, or three. To do that, you must have your stars on the field. Mike is a star. Mike didn't kill anyone, and "what ifs" are irrelevant. From the Wac to the Sec, players, especially stars, are getting away with a whole heck-of-a-lot more, and those teams are winning championships, in large part, because they keep their stars on the field. YOU DO NOT MAKE AN EXAMPLE OUT OF YOUR STAR!!!

I played D1 football, and know what goes on, and I can tell you that what Mike did -on a scale of one to ten- is a one. Championship teams keep their stars on the field, in order to win championships. Do you want to rejoice in another Irish championship? I do. I can't wait to welcome Mike back. Brian Kelly gets it. Go Irish!!!

Sorry, but I believe that's on Floyd. As an individual, you are a part of a team, and need to think about your actions in terms of not only how you are affecting yourself but your teammates (your 2nd family) as well. Guys screw up all the time and they get suspended, to the detriment of the team. But that's what being on a team encompasses. You can't start suspending the back center for a DUI because he never plays, but let your star player with the same infraction play because you don't want to hurt the team.

If you don't want to hurt the team - don't eff up!

Now, if Kelly chooses not to suspend him for whatever reasons, cool. And if he suspends him because he thinks the punishment warrants it, cool. But I just can't get with the "it hurts the team so don't suspend him" view. That is a very slippery slope (see: SEC/Ohio St/USC)...

I'm on the fence personally. Regardless of out come I will be concerned for Mike... making a mistake is something we all do... but he has shown a pattern here... and his status and ability in a high profile field could make any young man have a bit of a sense of entitlement...

I'm mainly concerned for his future more than anything. Hoping it works out for HIM and the University more than the football team at this point to be honest. If that means giving him a wake up call and sitting him so be it. Maybe it doesn't... as none of us are first hand here.

Time tells all.

See what I wrote above.

And if you think a DUI, while blowing a friggin .18, is a one on a ten scale, then you have your priorities (or whatever word that fits here) COMPLETELY out of whack. He was so hammered he could have easily killed himself or an innocent family, and yet that's only a 1??? What's a 2...beating a woman to a pulp? What's a 5...murder? What's a 7...OJ Simpson? Is a 10 an atomic bomb? Seriously, I'd LOVE to see what your list of 2-10 is...

I don't know if he'll be a steward for the University down the road once the professional setting kicks in, personally, but his time is his time; he'll have paid his dues once the legal ramifications have run their course.

I look forward to what Floyd produces on the football field. I look forward to the Irish winning and winning large...
