IMO, His & Hers was actually good, because it wasn't trying to be "SportsCenter". When you build a brand people have an expectation.

And yeah, daytime TV demographics are much different than the post-work 6PM demographic on many levels.

i get to work from home here and there and i would absolutely watch his and hers. It had such a different vibe than SC6 did.

Jemele certainly didnt do herself or Michael any favors either.

Jemele wants to be a martyr. Too bad nobody cares about her enough to go to bat for her.

Some people liked it. His & Hers did extremely well in a middle-of-the-day time slot on ESPN2. Didn't translate to the 6pm flagship audience, though.

Extract whatever theories you'd like from that, but I'm neither implying them nor endorsing them.

Certainly makes you wonder the kind of audience that would be available to tune in during the middle of the day, and the fact the 6pm working audience didn't care for it...yeah...I see what you did there.

I didn't know people still watched Sportscenter anymore. If I wanted to watch overpaid blowhards, shallow analysis, and leftist politics I would watch CNN.

I laughed...

Man has a point. I see it in news...I even see it when Gumble does it ...well I might add. I don't need to see it exaggerated, and poorly done in sports and entertainment. Just Sloppy.

My favorite thing about this is the easy prediction that Clay Travis already views this situation as a win/win, and has both of his possible takes ready.

Take 1: If ESPN's 6pm time slot ratings go up with whatever new direction they take SportsCenter, he'll celebrate how bad Smith/Hill were and go to bat about how "wokeness" is ruining sports.

Take 2: If ESPN's 6pm time slot ratings continue to decline or stagnate, he'll celebrate ESPN's general demise, saying "not even getting rid of the political BS can save ESPN."

I mean...he's not wrong. Although I would tweak #2 by saying "the 6" turned off so many people that they quit ESPN altogether.

I drive home from work listening to my Angels SportsLODGE with Roger Lodge every day, baseball season or not, it's wonderful...

The last two days AM830 hasn't been local, it's been national ESPN Radio with some SJWish woman who hasn't talked one lick of sports in two days... I sure as hell hope I get my SportsLODGE back soon, it is one of the very few sports talk radio shows that actually ever talks games anymore...

I don't watch ESPN as much as I used to (like most people it seems), but I'm not sure why they didn't try SC6 on ESPN2 at first or something....although I would guess the Around The Horn and PTI re-runs do okay there at 6:00 and 6:30.

You can't blame a network for wanting to try something new, but it seems like they could have had more of a transition or something as opposed to just switching the classic 6:00 Sportscenter to SC6 in one day. It seemed doomed from the start, and I'm honestly surprised it made it this long.

Reminds me of the Spain and Fitz radio show. They spend more time discussing BS instead of actual sports. I think both are capable, it just never gets there. Fitz would be cool to hang with to talk music, touring, etc., and Spain seems to know sports. But I want to listen to sports talk to escape the rest of the world's wrongs or somebody's political agenda.

As far as the SC6, M. Smith's talents as a sports journalist was wasting away alongside J. Hill. Even he couldn't save her from herself.

I'm so sick of the interview questions at the comine BS... there are actual NBA/NHL CBB and UCL league games going on and Spring training... I hate that sports talk has turned into 'fawx controversy talk that may or may not be related to the sports world'... the complete lack of focus on what actually happens on the playing fields by those supposedly covering sports is getting really old.

This is what happens when a company gets taken over by uber liberals that don't care about sports and want to push their political agenda on everyone else. I only watch ESPN now for live games and find myself listening to more local and regional radio shows. Mixing politics and sports is a losing business... and ESPN is losing money by the boatloads right now.

I've only watched for live games too for many years but I don't know that it's fair to just put this on ESPN's politics... it's not just ESPN. Even the freakin Dan Patrick Show doesn't talk games or actual sports anymore...

So the moralizing head of ESPN was doing cocaine on the regular and got caught in an extortion plan with his dealer lol.... like how the fuck some of these guys end up CEOs of billion dollar companies is completely beyond me...

“I never allowed it to interfere with my work, other than a missed plane and a few canceled morning appointments. I’ve never been a daily user. My use over the past two decades has, in fact, been quite infrequent,” he said. “I judge that I did a very good job and that it did not get in the way of my work. I worked hard, I worked smart. I worked all the time.”

Bruh.... hate to break it to you, but if an employee missess flights and meetings to do drugs that is getting in the way of their work.

I also like the implication that "if it weren't for getting extorted by my cocaine dealer, I'd still be using and still in charge of ESPN, because everything was going totally fine despite my drug habit."

Also, I still doubt that drugs/extortion were the only reasons for him leaving. Being an addict and the victim of an extortion scheme would have made him the ultimate post-treatment sympathy case in the business.

If he goes to treatment and lets his lawyers handle the extortion thing, no way ESPN runs him off. He'd be a golden ticket for "rehabilitation is great, look at how understanding our company is!"

Something else was going on.

he called his cocaine use “quite infrequent,” a byproduct of him growing up “wanting to be countercultural.”

The whole piece is truly an insane read... talk about being delusional! How was this guy IN CHARGE of ESPN?? I wouldn't hire him to be my admin assistant...
