He is from Pittsburgh, and even coached there briefly.
Played high school ball in Pitt but played college ball at UCONN then spent 1 year as a GA at Pitt.

Yeah, the dude's got 7 years left on his contract.
Alternatively, why would Pitt want Ferentz? He hasn't exactly covered himself in glory the past couple of years.

I agree with the majority of your post. This isn't earth shattering news. With that said, it IS disappointing given our most recent history as a program riddled with poor coaching. Most of our previous regimes had issues from the top down with head coach being the most easily scrutinized. Now that we are finally building on positive consistency, a wrench gets thrown in to cause a stir up.
I think many of us were wishful thinking that Bob D was looking to help advance ND to the point of real consistency at a championship level. We've come a long way (with huge credit to BD), but we haven't reached that ultimate peak quite yet. Who knows? It could still be a priority of his beyond the money and prestige of a HC gig. After all, he has the opportunity to do what many coaches wish they had: time and space to focus primarily on coaching those elite student athletes that walk through his door without the extra responsibilities impressed upon head coaches. With an increased salary, it's an even sweeter gig.
But it might just be about that next challenge for BD. He'll do what's best for him.

Addazio to BC!! Hell yeah
If Butch Jones leaves Cincinnati, they will come calling.
Not worried about losing Diaco to Cinci.
for some reason dudes...i think it's a foregone conclusion that coach diaco won't be back next year at ND...let's just enjoy the time we have him and hope he puts together a sweet game plan for bama

Reading this thread hurtz my nutz. Diaco isn't leaving Teo and team prior to a NC game, if at all. Interview = experience + exposure + leverage + raise. If he goes dumpster diving at BC, he's not the man I thought he was, especially if he does it before the NC.
He stay, that is all.
In what scenario do you see him coaching in the NCG AND taking another position for next year? It's one or the other.
Couldn't disagree more. I would not be shocked if he took another job (hoping he gives it another year, though). I would be very shocked if, one way or another, he isn't coaching the defense against Alabama a month from Friday. Very shocked.
I don't see any reason why he couldn't accept a job with the understanding that he would report for duty on January 8th, and I don't see any reason that a program that wanted him would resist such an arrangement.
It is basically a month off the recruiting trail/not building a staff, etc. I can see why his new employer might want him to start right away, and I wouldn't say I blame them. But I also see how he might stick around. It'd be something to negotiate, that's all.
