Doing the same thing I did in the OL thread. Last 3 years, with ranks.

Run-blocking stats
Line Yards per Carry: For 2018, we are experimenting with a new definition for college line yardage based on film study and generalization. Instead of the ALY figure FO used for the NFL, this one is tighter: the line gets credit for rushing yardage between 0-3 yards (instead of 0-4) and 50% credit for yards 4-8 (instead of 5-10). Anything over 8 yards is quantified as a highlight opportunity, and credit goes to the runner. As with the pro definition, lost yardage still counts for 125%. (Garbage time is filtered out for all line yardage averages.)
2018: 51
2017: 28
2016: 7

Standard Downs Line Yards per Carry: The raw, unadjusted per-carry line yardage for a team on standard downs (first down, second-and-7 or fewer, third-and-4 or fewer, fourth-and-4 or fewer).
2018: 68
2017: 52
2016: 30

Passing Downs Line Yards per Carry: The same unadjusted averages for rushing on passing downs.
2018: 28
2017: 19
2016: 9

Opportunity Rate: The percentage of carries (when four yards are available) that gain at least four yards, i.e. the percentage of carries in which the line does its job, so to speak.
2018: 28
2017: 42
2016: 35

Power Success Rate: This is the same as on the pro side -- percentage of runs on third or fourth down, two yards or less to go, that achieved a first down or touchdown.
2018: 128
2017: 24
2016: 46

Stuff Rate: Same as STUFFED on the pro side -- percentage of carries by running backs that are stopped at or before the line of scrimmage.
2018: 32
2017: 51
2016: 54

Pass-blocking stats
Sack Rate: Unadjusted sack rate for all non-garbage time pass attempts.
2018: 84
2017: 64
2016: 115

Standard Downs Sack Rate: Unadjusted sack rate for standard downs pass attempts.
2018: 69
2017: 58
2016: 77

Passing Downs Sack Rate: Unadjusted sack rate for passing downs pass attempts.
2018: 90
2017: 98
2016: 120

The stats appear to be built off sacks and rushing statistics. So the number of quarterback hurries are a non-factor for these rankings?

Just from the first three rows Air Force's defensive line is clearly better than Alabama's.

I absolutely wish they had a separate stat on hurries, and more non-sack data for passing. I found this very odd when I starting looking at it last night.

On the topic of hurries, anywhere to get those stats? I've seen tweets, and a few folks post, but not sure I saw a link to actual stats for CFB in general for hurries.

Confused about the 2018 number on this one.

Tillery impresses me most based on the huge step he took forward this year.

All this good news starts to scare me...

If Tillery is going first round (most mocks I've seen have him going late 1st), scouts have to be looking hard at our three true juniors (Okwara, Kareem, and Hayes). I'm just waiting on Kareem and Okwara to start popping on the mocks... Can you imagine losing Bonner, Tillery, Okwara, Kareem, Tranquil, Love, and Coney...

Our DL is supposed to be one of the best this year but our rankings are fairly poor. That's confusing.

I strongly doubt we'll lose all of those players. Most of our JRs will be coming back. I expect Love to bolt but I don't think our DEs will get first round grades yet.

If they come back next year and continue to improve, they'll be highly coveted players in next year's draft. Bonner, Tillery, Tranquil, Love, Coney will be enough attrition.

Confused about the 2018 number on this one.

Basically on runs that are 3rd down or 4th down and 1, we are one of the worst at getting stops. This makes sense, we are not big on our d line at all, which is why we get so much pressure, we're more of a speed pass rushing dline then a run stuffing d line.

Exactly. It's hard to be both simultaneously. If you're going to cut your DEs free and stunt/blitz, you need very good linebackers to flow down from the 2nd level to close gaps and sniff out screens.

Everything in football is risk vs. reward. This year, we've been rewarded with a very athletic, aggressive defense that still allows the secondary to keep everything in front of them. It's why we're one of the best at limiting 20+, 30+, 40+, 50+ but much worse at allowing 10+ yards.

I really love our identity this year on defense. Teams have to earn every drive and we can force mistakes by relentlessly getting after the QB.

I know. She's got 600lbs on me right now.

I initially assumed "irishog" meant you were the Irish original gangster, but it seems more likely that you're an Irish fan who enjoys hogging.
