I asked Anna about Callaway (she has talked to him recently). She doesn't believe any coach was stopping to see him and that in the end he will end up in the SEC.

What is this in regards to?

It's a reaction to his recruitment saga surfacing in the Robertson thread. It's because of this comment he made to Loy when asked where he feels DRob picks. Marquez should've been Irish.

Marquez Callaway
Warner Robins (Ga.) high school
Cornerback/Wide Receiver
Signed: Tennessee

“I say Notre Dame,” said Callaway. “You can’t beat what they offer. Not knocking the other schools, but life after football is a lot easier there. I don’t know if that’s his reasoning, but I just feel like that’s the place.”

Yeah this is one of the more head-scratching recruitments of this staff's tenure. Very frustrating to witness as a fan, ESPECIALLY for a team that routinely field less than 85 scholarship players each and every year. And no -- walk-ons rewarded a schollie do not count.

Just scored a 50 yard TD on pure athleticism... has 2 TDs on 2 targets tonight.

One of the most puzzling non-offers since Hubbard (and at least Diaco woke up on Hubbard a few months before NSD).

WRs we took in '16 -- McKinley, Claypool, Stepherson.

He played a great game as did the Vols in that comeback. They were down 14 with a little over 7 minutes left.

Ugh...agree. Would be one of the most athletic kids on the roster. I wanted him to be Irish so bad. And he wanted to be Irish badly. Huge head scratchier on why ND passed.

Claypool looks like he could be a star
Stepherson on the field is a stud...but as we know having other issues
McKinley often injured, but to early to evalute him.

The staff still should have taken his commitment in 2016...If no room for him at WR, he could be our starting safety.

Everytime he made a play, all I could think of was the shit storm we have at WR behind EQ and how we passed on this dude. One of the more frustrating recruitments under BK.

relax people...he hadn't even cracked the 2 deep...an injury in game propelled him into it otherwise you would have never seen him

TN's depth chart isn't the point. It's ND's depth chart at WR and S and how Marquez could've potentially factored in. The kid is undoubtedly athletic and wanted to be at ND. This staff doesn't have the recruiting pedigree to be passing on such kids, imo.

Think you mean Tenn, and I agree. Especially when a kid camps at ND and everyone agrees he's the most athletic one there... but you "know better" and don't offer. And then miss on Demetris Robertson to close the cycle.

Sorry, yes. Have Georgia on the brain this week. Edited.

I thought the reason given was the staff liked Steph more. That doesn't excuse BVG from not taking Callaway as a safety though...

it is the point....he WOULDN'T have played so he wouldn't have had those opportunities....so who's to say he would have cracked our 2 deep? i certainly liked his tape and wanted him but the fact the staff there hadn't been impressed much even with their lack of depth at the position says he could've been in the same position at ND....he just happened to make the most of his opportunities..same could be said about any of our wr's depending on the game is all i am saying...on side note---i wanted him at ND as i thought he was electric

We're arguing past each other then because I'm not talking about the plays he made either. Your last sentence sums it up and is the bottom line I'm trying to get at. He was a very talented prospect who wanted to be at ND and the staff passed. It's unfortunate because, clearly, he has play making ability at the next level.

but why couldn't he crack the 2 deep for tennessee at a thin position? that's my other point

After seeing him physically dominate on Sunday, and the fact that he wanted to come to ND, and the fact that two grad transfers came in and started week 1 for us, I really don't care where he was on the depth chart at Tennessee.

This kid can play football and I wish he was opposite of ESB right now. Or at least had the chance to be.

....

True soph, had a huge game in his very first game of the season. That's like asking "why couldn't EQ crack the depth chart?" when Fuller was in front of him. Sometimes the guy in front of you is just better... doesn't mean he sucks. Being the #3 WR on the depth chart is not like he was buried.
