Dang. I guess this was inevitable. Also, there's no way B10 is completing an 8-game schedule...
If 13 are in isolation and 10 of those in quarantine does that mean 10 positive tests with 3 out due to contact tracing (with more contact tracing to come)?
If so, that suggests most of the new positive tests are from the contact tracing group held out of the USF game, right? Wasn't that a group of 11 with all of them already expected to miss the scheduled Wake game?
that was my initial thought reading the press release and if that's not the case I'm confused. It sounds like the main reason they cancelled today and are postponing is to get a clear indication of who should be under contact tracing.
As LAX said, I'd be surprised if they manage to get FSU played on time. Two weeks mandatory iso puts us out to Tuesday of game week barring no further set back and the players are healthy, and we still don't know exactly how many guys need to be isolated due to contact tracing.
Just spit balling, but we currently have two open dates. 10/3 and 11/21. I don't see us playing anyone 10/3, and WF & FSU play Duke and Clemson, respectively, on 11/21.
The ACC championship game is likely to be held either on Dec 12 or 19 (I would assume 19, we can't be the only team that is going to have this issue) so that MIGHT give us one more open week (Dec 12) to make up one of these games.
Good luck B1G...this is only week three for ACC football and the wiggle room is tight.
I would be very surprised if we play against FSU at this point.
There are a lot of potential issues, but one shocking thing I'm hearing is that USF did inadequate testing and had people playing in the game that were positive. This is a rumor, I have no clue if it's true, don't shoot me if it's wrong.
The other issues include socializing with normal people in and out of the ND community, and parents coming in on game days does not help matters. I'm not just talking players' parents either... a lot of random students had their parents coming in and throwing de facto house parties.
The outbreak on the DL before the season started was allegedly from a player's GF. The walk-ons that got it preseason got it from a party. The most recent outbreak the first name was Wardlow; then it was Simon/Keys positive + Bracy Contact tracing; then it was the full list who missed Saturday. Now it's snowballed to at least 12 confirmed positives + unknown others from contact tracing. The contact tracing numbers could take out half the team for all I know, and that's 14 days on its own.

That's the problem. You can put the best plans in place, but you have no idea what rules other schools put in place and how well they enforce them.
Hot take, but at this point, hopefully the rest of the roster contracts it within the next few days so we don't have any more interruptions.
If that’s the case then the entire football team and staff would be subject to contact tracing isolation requirements right? Pretty crazy to think how fast the numbers would add up IF (very big if) true.
I'm honestly not sure how they're doing "contact tracing"... it seems that it has to be more than incidental exposure, because the only cases I'm aware of now where someone has triggered it is prolonged exposure (e.g. living together with someone who is positive). Otherwise, I would think that some of our starting OL should've been out for taking practice reps against Kofi, and many other similar situations.
For COVID-19, a close contact is defined as any individual who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days prior to positive specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated.

The CDC guidelines:
I bet you could structure practices to minimize the number of people who are impacted in case of players testing positive.
OTOH, it's not necessarily preventing people from getting exposure if you're just making sure that's capped at 10 minutes with any other person or whatever.
Great info, and now I understand why they've structured practice how they have instead of running "normal" practices.
Just saw an article on ESPN where the SEC is using these slick tracking devices for contact tracing. They sound like a fancy GPS that tracks distances between players and time spent in close proximity. It appears that if a player doesn’t meet some threshold for time spent in close contact, they aren’t officially considered an exposure. Wonder if ND is using anything like that.
USF has over 50K enrollees spread over three campuses but I would assume the football players are located at the Tampa campus. No idea what percentage is doing virtual but let’s hope this is a rare spike & not an external infection brought from the visiting team.
According to the Chiefs, the fan who tested positive and other members of that fan’s group at the game were seated in the stadium’s lower level and were wearing masks, as required, when entering the stadium. The Chiefs said they reviewed video and used contact-tracing methods that included parking and ticket-scanning data.
“This process allowed the team to identify the other guests sitting with this individual, the service staff with whom this individual may have come in contact with, as well as any other ticket holders near this person at the time of entry into the stadium,” the Chiefs said in their statement. “Within hours of being notified, the Chiefs were able to pinpoint the names of the other members of the party as well as detailed information about the path and location of entry, and this information was provided to the Health Department.”
